Competition for Brink?

(DarkangelUK) #1

I guess there’s no CoD respite for Brink this fall, as it has just been announced that Treyarchs latest itteration of the series hits stores in November of this year. Call of Duty: Black Ops is its official branding with little more information than that on offer at the moment.

Regardless of your thoughts of the CoD series, they always sell BIG… with the small bit of silver lining being that Treyarchs creations have always been the weaker of the releases. Think this could spell a little trouble for Brink sales?

It’s assumed that Brink will sell in September, so hopefully there is a big enough gap that people won’t care.

On another note, hopefully Treyarch embrace co-op like they did for WAW. It’s something the COD series misses imo. Weak excuses such as “a feeling of immersion is lost for coop” is such BS since there was no loss of immersion at all in WAW.

Back on topic, Bethesda had just better market it right

Hopefully Brink will grab enough attention so that COD won’t be a problem.

There was no sense of teamplay or belonging together. As a coop experience it was really bad and felt more like an afterthought.

If you want a good coop experience I would recommend Gears of War. On higher difficulty levels it’s in my opinion the best coop shooter (I tried a lot of games with a friend of mine and most are just average).

True, but by immersion I meant story line immersion. That’s the excuse that MW2 used. WAW shows the story as if each coop player is the one receiving the story, and therefore the storyline was not compromised at all by being coop. I have heard GoW is good but something about it turned me off. I might give it a go. Sorry for taking this off topic.

I think with the way the media has received Brink so far is a good impression of how it will sell. Once the big propaganda machine starts into full swing, it should do well.

I’m glad people are starting to lose a lot of faith in COD. I’ve heard more and more bitching about it of late (on comments on Kotaku etc), and the Activision/IW situation surely will help drive a few people away from the COD series

WaW didnt fare very well for us over at TeamWarfare. Treyarch is doest seem to have a good acceptance for Competition games.

We are definitely planning on hosting Brink when it is released, and anything that may be available before release.

It’s not really a big deal, since CoD and Brink play completely different. Just like BC2 and MW2 - BC2 may have “stolen” some players, but for the most part, they each have their own fanbase.

Hmm, for some odd reason, ETQW and Halo 3 were released the same year, and now Brink and Halo Reach are released the same year.

The whole call of duty thing is unavoidable, but it is just unlucky that Bungie and Splash Damage decide to release their games the same year.

Call of Duty: Black Ops sounds incredibly interesting though. I hope they take a stab at the R6 series and fill the high realism niche that has been empty for so long.

Oh what am I dreaming, there’s no way the COD mechanics can pull that off.

That’s not really true, there were quite alot of flamewars about COD MW1 on the ETQW forums back in the days. Even though ETQW got compared more to BF2142.

If I were in the marketing I would present Brink as the next ‘Fallout’. Fallout got lots of people unfamiliar with the genre or the series playing it. A surprising amount of girls loved it as well. It had a low bar to get into and you could waste the rest of your life playing it if you wanted.

So what Fallout 3 did for the RPG/action genre, so should Brink be the gateway drug to the tactical team based shooters.

Don’t even try to compete with COD, that’s MOHA’s burden. We want casual gamers and turn them hardcore before they know it.

Crysis 2 is also coming in Q4…
:infiltrator:

(Joe999) #10

remove “year” and make “week” of it. atvi did very bad marketing for quake wars. however, releasing a game in the same week as halo 3 proves they just didn’t care at all

(AnthonyDa) #11

HALO3 on PC released in the same week than QW PC version isn’t a problem …

Well the good news is Activision is distributor for Bungie now, so expect them to bugger it up.

The first teaser trailer is out for your viewing

Looks a bit like a MGS3/Universal Soldier cocktail, especially the “…bring him back…” line. Anyway- I don’t think this will threaten Brink too much, especially after MW2.

It would be nice to see an official SD ladder for Brink

Did they ever do that for QWET?

Nice one not reading topic.

Ontopic,

No other games on PC this year that tickle my fancy really, Metroid Other M is out later in year and possibly new Zelda so I’ll be happy anyway.

i used a tarot reading  to answer this question (PAST, PRESENT, FUTURE SPREAD), cards drawn:

  1. The past - The Hanged Man: Devotion to a worthwhile cause. Flexibility of mind and a willingness to adapt to changes. Sacrifice in the present to reap benefit in the future. A waiting period. Rebirth. Sacrificing one thing to obtain another. Transformation. Circumstances literally turned on their head…
…RTCW:ET and the decision to give it free, sacrificing money to gain reputation and renown…
  2. The present - Temperance: Combination. Co-operation. Innovation through combination. Maturity in dealing with certain matters. A placid, balanced temperament and good outlook. Meaning literally, temperance in the sense of harmony and balance. good management. An ability to adapt to changing circumstances.
…ET:QW and Brink in his current form …
  3. The Future - The Six of Swords (The Lord of Earned Success): Gradual change, movement or travel away form difficulty or imminent danger. The solution of current problems. Long journeys and passage from pain. Obstacles that are overcome.
…Brink in his final form …a bit blurry this card… if SD don’t forget the past and learn from the present then… i see a long journey and earned success…
    … and no competition

How do you give a tarot reading for a game? Did you sit your laptop with the SD webpage open in front of you and draw cards? :stuck_out_tongue:

(Diablo85) #19

If Brink is being released this fall it will have competition of Call of Duty 7, the new Medal of Honor and HALO: Reach. That might cost alot of sales if the game isn’t marketed propery.

(H0RSE) #20

if Brink was going up against “Jesus: The Game,” I would still buy it…CoD, Halo, and MoH don’t interest me at all.
