ET: Doom
ET: Rage

I would love ET: Doom

An ET game set in the WH40K universe is something I thought would be fun years ago.
I love Games Workshop’s systems but to try and put such a vast universe into a shooter. I also doubt it would be very interesting for a tactical shooter considering most of the gameplay of the board games and the video games revolve around super-beings in epic armour beating the living crap out of each other in prolonged combat.
THQ’s Space Marine captured that idea really well, but that structure really doesn’t lend itself for what SD does.

Well, at the time I thought of it, I did write up a short description of how it could work, and it seemed really doable. To keep things simple, you could either use just Space marines, or Space Marines and one other Faction. Classes could be formed out of the already existing troop types - Assault troops, Heavy weapon/Support troops, Scouts, etc. And there is already vehicles as well - Dreadnaughts, Land Speeders, Assault Bikes, etc. Perhaps make it so Elite troops, like Terminators or Librarians, have a player limit per team.
Hell, you could even simply make it so you start off with basic soldiers, and then add gear to him to customize them to your playstyle - maybe make it based on a point system like the tabletop game. Maybe have it so you pick a class, and then based on that class, determines which gear you have access to. There are a lot of different ways it could be done successfully.
Of course, if you are talking about simply taking the tabletop game (rules and all) and applying it to a team-based objective game, then yeah, it may not work too well, but if you change/add.change mechanics to make it fit more with a team based objective game, I don’t really feel as though it would be a bad idea at all.
Never played it but Space Marine has classes in multiplayer. I assume it’s team deathmatch focused.
While I personally enjoy the universe, Games Workshop is reputed to be highly protective of their IP so that might not be an IP to exercise much creativity under.
+1 for ET:Doom. Altho I also would like to see sometime along the lines of ET:The Elder Scrolls. The various races and factions would be ideal IMHO. Maybe 3 factions rather than 2.
They have a deathmatch mode, but they also have a capture and hold mode.

Technicalities aside, it is still something I think could work well, and something I would like to see implemented.
Games Workshop is really excited about how well the DoW and Space Marine franchises are doing. Yeah I´m a nerd that read annual reports of companies I like.
Still, I don´t think it´s fit for a tactical shooter. It just doesn´t suit objective gameplay. The scale isn´t right and the fights take too long if you don´t want to lose the spirit of the Warhammer universe. I’m really disappointed that that 40k mmorpg got shafted. That was exactly right and the combat was real-time (IE you had to aim your weapon).
Do you prefer Asymmetric or Symmetric teams?
What are your vehicle preferences? 1. No vehicles at all. 2. Ground vehicles only. 3. Both air and ground vehicles
What are your map preferences? 1. Indoor only. 2. Outdoor only. 3. Good mix of indoor and outdoor
What is your preferred game setting? 1. WW2 historically realistic. 2. WW2 fantasy/sci-fi tech 3. Modern realistic. 4. Modern fantasy/sci-fi tech. 5. Futuristic (Quake/Rage/Brink)
Do you want to play a Single Player Campaign?
Favorite Game Modes 1. Campaign. 2. Stopwatch. 3. LMS. 4. Other (Base Race, CTF, 1v1 etc.)
asymmetric

What are your vehicle preferences? 1. No vehicles at all. 2. Ground vehicles only. 3. Both air and ground vehicles Definitely no vehicles
What are your map preferences? 1. Indoor only. 2. Outdoor only. 3. Good mix of indoor and outdoor Close-quarters… like Brink/TF2. Can be a mix of indoor and outdoor…but I don’t like open fields and long distance gunplay.
What is your preferred game setting? 1. WW2 historically realistic. 2. WW2 fantasy/sci-fi tech 3. Modern realistic. 4. Modern fantasy/sci-fi tech. 5. Futuristic (Quake/Rage/Brink) Either 2 or 5
Do you want to play a Single Player Campaign? I prefer that multiplayer games only have multiplayer, and singleplayer games only have singleplayer, so that the dev’s can put 100% of their focus into the reason they are making the game in the first place. So, no single player campaign needed for an ET style game. Botmatches are very cool…but shouldn’t be marketed as a campaign. That will create backlash.
Favorite Game Modes 1. Campaign. 2. Stopwatch. 3. LMS. 4. Other (Base Race, CTF, 1v1 etc.) Favorite: Stopwatch. (After that, my favorites are NS2/Nuclear Dawn style modes, CTF, and 1v1 duel modes)
Good questions.
9. What is it about ETQW that made it such a spectacularly amazing game?
Post this in the QW section and I will answer it
