Community Question: V-Says and Automated Communication
Again I and the other active members know this exists, you’re at a disadvantage by not being active enough to bare witness to this. Once again this is not my concern, if you’re not privy to the previous information then you’re not in a position to comment or question it if you’re not willing to put the effort in to find it. You think just wandering into the discussion and demanding proof to my point that others know exist means I should go fishing to satisfy you? Doesn’t work like that dude (btw the removal of vsays was a bone of contention long before the game was released)
And the relation to my stated opinion (on the subject of the thread is)…?
As for the weight I carry here, not entirely sure what you mean by that, I have no influence here any more than you do.
Everyone here (or some at least) are aware of your skills and your contribution. Who are you trying to kid?
But to satisfy your self entitlement, sure tag it as a generalized opinion, the poll is skewed, the threads are made up and those I spoke to are liars… I used all of that to come to a fake basis for my opinion.
Wow, way to go after the man instead of the message and put words in my mouth…again and again and again!

The relation was to your opinion of my opinion, and well, when we start opinionating against opinions then actual points get lost. You’ve stated your piece, I’ve stated mine… whether either of us like it or not it’s not going to change so it’s pointless taking this discussion any further.

voted for point 2.
old-skool, manually-selected - rule.
but thats require awareness skill, which is point, probably actually provide another benefits, when players get it, after learning their importance.

Sorry for the necro but it’s quiet, I missed this thread the first time round, I read all six pages and I have some input. so neh!

I won’t expunged pages of drivel here. I think it’s been briefly touched on here and in other threads before. Essentially what I think SD needs to do is:

 1. Work on the interface, GUI and configuration made easy for all. This IMO is the biggest problem with SD games, it’s a finishing touch they never even get to and yet always the blame is laid at the feet of the system and not the interface.

 2. Allow stringing vsays together before transmission so that you can point out an enemy’s location, what they are doing and to whom.

 3. Optionally allow, through a held key, users to see visual indicators of vsays. Hold down the class key and class specific missions and vsays show, hold down the general key and you get general roles.

 4. Provide feedback through vsays. Print to text on screen with username and location. Animate players gestures. We know who’s talking, but why are you thrusting your pelvis at me?

 5. Relevance. I don’t have a solution for this but vsays need to have a way of keeping relevance. Spotting an enemy is no good if they’re on the move. Stringing vsays could help there [“Enemy Spotted”, “Moving Towards”, “<point on map>”] but at some point that information is out dated. Likewise someone sniping up on a hill may be there until they’d killed (something a nice heli mission could deal with). So we can just put a timer on the information. There needs to be a way to say something without the automatic assumption of other players that it is useless information. This is the same for on the fly missions, calling for artillery may be relevant for 30 seconds or 3 minutes. This is the toughest one IMO.

 6. Continue improving the context of vsays rather than automating them. Allow vsays to share more information. Press <need ammo> to get “I’m down to my last clip” or “I need more rockets to take down that chopper”. Of course it wouldn’t work for everything but it would help on those more common requests and give some decision making capability to nearby players on what the person was doing or how desperate they are.

Enough from me. Basically SD you had it almost all there with ETQW but build upon it, make it very intricate then put a good interface on it to keep it simple.

Tribes got it 90% right. Sequnxe of keys is great. Was missing customization though since everyone has different things they like to sau. BF2 did it pretty well too. I like some of the automatic ones in Brink as they enhaced immersion.

Tribes could use a tighter flood control though, you do get people spamming unnecessary junk all the time. /mute does wonders though.

All possible voice messages are available via nested lists, and I’ll trigger them all myself.

Now I get Vsays not possible for the player console. So this is one of the many questions that need to be answered separately for each platform.

Automated voice is not selective, ‘enemy spotted’ does not mean anything when the enemy is everywhere. In the QW the vsays means something because of a worthy man who is actually going through the effort say. If someone yelled 'medical! “in the QW the players who actually want medical personnel are not, this is way more valuable to the medical officer of hearing 'medical!” every time someone goes down.

SD needs to understand that when it comes to small details that make the PC-gunners valuable, they nailed almost all of the QW. Please just give PC gamers do any QW because it is right. The little things are not always possible for the console (and Brink does a good job in finding a compromise for that platform) and should be tailored to a particular platform (and not translated back to the PC again). :stroggbanana:
