One of the things I enjoyed in Unreal Tournament was the community map packs released by EPIC. Do you think that there might be any chance of a developers map pack (with the rumored unfinished maps) or an ‘official’ community map pack?
I know that many persons out there, myself included have sufficient know-how to create and assemble pk3s bundled with a campaign file, but I think it would be cool to assemble an official pk3 community pack featuring prominent 3rd party maps. As un unsupported add-on, it would be cool.
For instance, a competition pak might include popular stopwatch maps (like Special Delivery, for example), and a campaign pak might include popular campaign oriented maps (like those from the many talented mappers such as Ifurita and Marko who haunt the various ET forums).
Although I have not personally mastered the mysteries of the Wolfy Map Tool as yet, I do appreciate the amount of effort and time that goes into map making. I have extensive experience at map authoring for UT, and I hope to gain the skills and patience of the ET mappers. I salute you!
Granted that with the download bug exorcised, the need for such paks is somewhat reduced. Nevertheless, bundling 3rd party maps gives an air of legitimacy for them.
Although my skills for now are still limited to troubleshooting scripts and building small rooms, I aspire to make excellent maps someday for this most excellent game. Being included in an ‘official’ map pack, well that would be an awesome moment.
