Co-op Mode

I guess I am just tired of the cookie cutter MMORPGs, RTS, and FPS. I really want to find something fresh and different. I see so much potential to break the mold and start pushing out some new and unique games that would offer players a chance to work as a team as opposed to always pitting them against one another. Sure I love competition and I still enjoy getting on a FPS for a little fragfest, but I yearn for a good adventure that I can sit back and enjoy with friends.

So first I was wondering if anyone has come across a good PC game with Co-op capabilities? Secondly I put together a little poll to see if I’m in the minority, with my desire for more co-op style games.

i voted for the 2nd one, and i love games like that if you really want to try something and are skilled in some area you could put a mod team together (or convinve an existing one) to make et a co-op style mod. it would be a start, and you wouldnt have to work from scratch.

I too am a big fan of coop games. My bro and I used to play coop games all the time but they seem to be a little thing on the ground these days …

Our favourites were

BF1942
Baldurs Gate 2
Neverwinter Nights

BG2 was my favourite … it still has not been beaten imo

Damn right more games need coop mode! Halo PC, Doom 3 and Half Life 2 to name but a few would ROCK with coop mode. Serious Sam is a blast in coop… pity it doesnt require too much thought and teamwork tho.

Coop is great IMO. I still have fond memories of playing coop doom nightmare on a null modem cable
However, it puts some fairly nasty constraints on the game design, so it is fairly easy to understand why a lot of developers don’t bother with it.

Keep an eye out for the Svencoop mod for HL2. When it’s done it will be cool

i love playing co op but i think they suffern from the same downsides as single players levels

they is usualy a way in which the map is won and after a few times you know whats gona happen in the level and where the AI is coming from, where requires a lot more though into what the other people are doing

also when you know the levels i find they are a lot easier to finish and lots of fun is removed by knowing that your going to win anyway
