Classic Gaming Night - brought to you buy ((bh)) TAW| & *OCB*

(sereNADE) #1

Following a short yet exciting conversation with geppy and st00p1d… well, we decided we would like to organize frequent and regular nights of QUAKE 1 w/ classic mods. Say a night of DM, then a night of threewave ctf then a night of megaTF. Between our 3 clans we could most assuredly support games of this type but I can’t help but think how much better it would be if the regulars of the SD forums (or even SD ppl themselves) came out to experience some online fps heritiage.

Anyone who has gotten the latest list of servers from QW sees tons of empty entries and the prozac tf are the strongest names there. We are leaning from hosting off our own machines in NA and making that QW (heh, that’s quake world, not quake WARS) list grow a bit more.

Stay Tuned!

This sounds like an awesome idea to me. Hosting is easy: we just need players and coordination.

I will be there, so you can get a few extra frags.

count me in too!!

classic ftw!

I haven’t played Quake in years, so I need some advice on choosing a distro. GLQuakeWorld? GLQuake?

(Slade05) #7

By all means.

geppy
nQuake

I use darkplaces because I like the singleplayer enhancements along with retexture. Works fine with MP as well. Very customizable with it’s lighting and effects.

I don’t have Quake, but GLHF.

I am not sure but think the Shareware is enough since the only difference is that the full version has 3 more episodes. Maybe it hase some more multiplayer maps but those don’t have to be played then.

So far I have never played Quake World online. Only played the singe player years ago, that is a least over a decade ago. Tried it yesterday and I gotta say it plays freakin damn fast. Way faster even than I imagined it would, judging by all the frag movies I have seen on youtube from time to time. I tried duel against a bot included with the nQuake-pack … I did not change the difficulty so I don’t know what level that bot was on. In the end I did not get a single frakkin frag! That bot just steamrolled me timing all the items perfectly and kicking my ass
I never thought that would be possible … in Quake3/QuakeLive bots only outaim you but if you play it smart you beat em all.

I’m shopping some grapple mods for ctf use and rechecking the MegaTF packages to get an idea what is suitable. We will get this off the ground and full steam ahead in about 2 weeks. I’m also looking fore the cheapest deals on quake 1 so that I might suggest the savings to our readers here.

This sounds like a great idea. Might be helpful if you could post up install instructions (preferred open source engine, links to additional mods/maps, etc) a week or so in advance to give people plenty of time to prepare.

don’t worry, i ll have links and instructions posted once i we have a schedule.
