If it induces annoyance then it hinders you by definition. Otherwise you’ve conjured an exceptional frame to argue against my case from.
@Chris Sweetman: About The Sound Design
If it induces annoyance for a large number of people, then that tells you something right there… nothing conjured at all.
No, it doesn’t. That’s why combat intuition exists, to reduce that kind of annoying random element.
You’re really looking too hard into the shooting effect. It’s like a fly buzzing in the room; it doesn’t really change much if it’s there or not but you’d prefer it gone.
People can get annoyed when they die or get flashbanged. They take that for granted because they understand that they’re able to do this as well. I suspect that people feel they’re the only one who suffer the disorientation of getting hit.

Combat intuition is a something that costs you a coin as well as an ability slot. You can use it to offset it if it really hinders you that much.

It only annoys you if you don’t understand the ramifications of it being there. I have no issue with this at all because I realise that other people have this as well. I also use this knowledge, sometimes I only need to hit someone once to set him diving away, which was all I needed him to do.
It’s a brand new concept away from the norm, which could be the usual ‘it’s different = bad’ view, but you’re argument is basically ‘its in the game so its fine’. I like to look at it as a test, test of a new concept… and if 50% of users don’t like it, then it’s a failed test. Simply saying it’s good doesn’t work, and claiming mass delusion of those that don’t like it doesn’t float either. You’ve been trying to explain the reasoning and ‘depth’ it brings, but the only thing you’ve done so far is inadvertently highlight even more bad things about it, it’s pushing a style of play that goes against what they wanted… how in any world could that be a good thing? Maybe they ate too much cod… it’s 1 of a long list if things that seems to counter what they told us they were aiming for, I’ll call this “audio goop”.
Oh yes, right, I’m such a fan boy lapping it all up no matter what SD throws at me  It’s the same reason I love orange **** as well as the splendid way they balanced the weapons and body types.
Well sorry but I’m completely bamboozled as to why you could think it adds anything and isn’t the audio of form of red goop on the screen. Do you think covering a screen in red jam also adds depth?
The red jam **** breaks immersion and is closer to what Humate calls ‘hand-holding’. Brink does it in a more subtle and efficient fashion by desaturating the screen.
The audio mechanic is the exact opposite of the red goop. It’s an intuitive mechanic that incites players to behave appropriately when being fired (ah heck, I explained this in every post in this thread if you want a more elaborate version), the red **** on the other hand takes any form of cover or abillity to stay profile away from the game and artificially points the targets out for the player.
If you want to criticise SD for anything then it’s for this direct contradiction in philosophy.
Oh I know what you tried to explain, but what you actually explained came across completely different and had the opposite effect of your intentions. I thought I already criticized for their contradictions… as I said, this is 1 of many. Don’t worry, I made my feelings known about the others elsewhere on this forum.
Well then there was no need to imply that I’m defending this particular feature just because it’s there.
I get why it’s there. I just think it’s a bad idea, shouldn’t exist and regardless of intention does nothing but add to the visual clutter during a firefight.
This is one of the things that annoys me sooo much, totally agree!
And tokamak lol, your “don’t get shot” argument is so strange. How am I going to do any objectives without getting shot constantly? Or should I just camp in a corner like in CoD?
I 100% agree that this just gives the first person to connect a shot a big advantage and SD said that they don’t want this (thus less weapon damage and less one shot kills).
lol i was complaining about this similar thing to my brother today while we tried playing online…but every time i get shot with a single bullet it feels like i’ve just been blown in the face with a shotgun or something, it’s frankly quite annoying the sound and all.
does anyone know if with the unlocking of some cvars in the recent patch there’s one that removes this annoyance? if so, which one?
