@Chris Sweetman: About The Sound Design

(Joe999) #1

i really would like to get an answer to one thing: when you get hit by a bullet, the sound volume goes down and then up again. my question is: WHY?

this is a feature that happens all the time when you get hit. in a game where you get constantly hit. so this means the sound volume is constantly going up and down.

i don’t know about others, but my ears quickly adjust to the sound volume changes. when the volume goes down, my ears try to adjust and still hear what’s going on. so when the sound volume goes up again, i’m hearing everything louder than before. this is distracting and makes the gameplay a nightmare for me. i can’t play like this.

there are things that you don’t force on people. one of them is sound. look at a webpage that has sound on it. people don’t like it. that’s why there’s always a mute button when sound is played automatically, at least on sites with good web design.

well, brink is a game and not a website. but things still apply. you don’t mess with people’s ears. well, you might say that i could also turn off the sound. but that doesn’t cut it. the sound belongs in the game, the volume changes don’t.

since we can’t turn this feature off, there must be a reason as to why this is happening. i really would appreciate to hear that reason, since it doesn’t make any sense to me. not at all. i can’t stand to play the game. i haven’t finished a single map. i can look beyond the ms of the id4 tech still not being fixed. but i can’t look beyond the messing of my ears.

maybe i could tolerate the sound volume going down when you get incapacitated. but the volume changes during firefights is unbearable.

It’s that bad for you? you must have some darn sensitive ears, it’s fine for me. Just turn down the overall volume to a comfortable level? so when it pops back up it might not be as devastating.

As for why, i’m guessing it’s to simulate the shock of being hit by a bullet, I like the effect - makes it more intense.

ManGiraffeDog, a horrible marauding godless killing machine, is coming to destroy humanity. I’ve come to warn you to RUN AWAY and save yourselves. Here’s what it looks like so you can be prepared:

I’m super serial.

I would also want this to get removed, adds nothing to the gameplay and sound just bad.

(BiigDaddyDellta) #5

It’s to simulate pain I would imagine. the fact that you’re experiencing real pain is pretty impressive, I’d say that makes the sound fantastic!

You don’t got other problems right?

I assume it’s just a surpressive effect like “BLOODY SCREEN SO REAL”. >.<

(tokamak) #7

Also what’s up with those flashbangs! I can’t see a thing!

Haha! that’s amazing :stroggbanana:

(Kurnuttaja) #9

I think it should be optional aswell, not because it is distracting but there are people who like and others who hate it.

(Je T´aime) #10

I agree with this, it gets a bit distracting and annoyng.

(trigg3r) #11

i like it…

(NeoRussia) #12

I don’t think I even notice it because most of the sound in the game is broken or low quality at the moment.

I hate the fact than when you get shot it sounds like a grenade going off, really needs a patch so bullet hits sound like bullets lol.

(Lanz) #15

I agree fully with Joe999, and this was one of the major reasons why I decided to not by this game. I heard the effect in a video and got it confirmed to be in the final version, so no $$ from me.

(darthmob) #16

Thank you for pointing it out. I problably would have never realised it was there. :frowning:

(tokamak) #17

It’s really simple, if you hate it, DO NOT GET SHOT.

This is really like complaining about bullets in this game being lethal. Everyone has this, it’s the reward of getting the jump on someone, you get to disorient someone first making it more difficult for him to respond.

(EpicStratagem) #18

Its damn annoying. Please get rid of it. I would like to play a game were I am constantly having hearing loss because I got shot at. Also, the radio transmissions are so annoying! The crackling is annoying and many times the voices are sharp and piercing. Surely, you didn’t mean to make the players ears bleed when they are trying to appreciate the sixty dollars they just spent on your game.

(Humate) #19

You can mute the auto-chatter in the menu.
Thats what ive done.

(PsYcHo) #20

Hm… i like it
