Choppy cursor movement...

(Peruvianskies4) #1

I’ve installed ET and dropped in the TC:E Beta…

When the game starts, my mouse cursor “jumps” around the screen when I move it, only moving about once every two seconds. At that, when I go to quit out of the game (when I can actually get the cursor centered on “quit”), it sometimes locks up my computer.

My specs:
AMD 2600 @ 2.03 GHz
512MB RAM
ATI Radeon 9200 SE 128MB
WinXP Home SP2

Any ideas?

Does this happen in ET too? :o

they’ve just released a new patch, might help

(Peruvianskies4) #4

Yes, it actually was worse in just Enemy Territory.

I haven’t tried it with the new patch yet, hopefully that fixed the issue.

Nope… Still didn’t help. The only difference is it’s not locking up my computer; I am still having the choppy cursor movement.

Ok, make sure that your sample rate is set to something decent, apart from that I can’t help you.
Unless of course you don’t regularly check for malware…
In which case, try this. (It needs to be run in Internet Explorer)
Housecall

Yeah… All of that checked out, and all of my antivirus software is up to date.

I know that I had a similar problem (5 years ago) with another game, and I had to change something in the shortcut’s target line… Something about putting ‘cursor.bmp’ at the end of it, but when I looked at the shortcut for this game, there was already a lot of stuff after ‘.exe’.

There’s got to be someone who has had a similar problem…

I did, although it was only; ‘in-game’. It was caused by the auto-protect ant-virii. McAfee seemed to be worse than Norton…but I never trailed through Mcaffes setting to tweak it out if at all possible.
I just shut down the auto-protect and shutdown all background programs not needed. Search through these forums for ‘tweak’ . Those threads should help with the gaming aspect.

[google ad-aware, it is free and finds some pesky things]

[edit: try shutting off most auto-updates and anything that is causing your computer to avert power to a miscellaneous task.]

Well, the thing is… Every other game I have runs fine, before and after I run this one; I always close out unused programs before I jump into a game. Half Life 2 even runs better on my machine than this one does… And I play Soldier of Fortune 2 a lot, which is another Q3 mod; no problems there either. So, I don’t think it’s a performance issue from my PC…

Like I say, I was hoping that someone else with this same problem would come across this, and maybe we can find a fix for it.

Wierd…I wish I could help you more but the only other time I had a problem like this was from a v92 connection @ someone’s camp, but after I disconnected the v.92, It was fine.

–Good luck
