Pixel, you seem to forget that 1 of the biggest problems right now is the majority of players have no access to any information because of the lack of Nexon forums. Remember the game forums are Nexon’s responsibility and they’re failing huge, the Alpha forums have very limited access (this is good) and only exist because SD knows they would be mobbed by pitchfork carrying Alphas if removed. We remember losing the QW forums (dey were boootyful) and the travesty of the Brink forums. Without these forums I’m pretty sure half the Alpha early Betas would leave
Cheaters/nexon/forums/Splashdamage/activity/Losing confidence
I agree about the lack of progress. Just came back myself after a long hiatus, I expected a lot of changes. Last time late 2013 I took a break for a month or so after the Nexon deal/Extraction name change and didn’t see much difference so I figured this time (after over half a year) the game had to have gone through some huge overhauls, probably in open beta… and, what do I find?
[ul]
[li] Still in closed beta with no press to be found anywhere, I couldn’t even find where to download the launcher (seriously, go try and find a link from www.nexon.net)
[/li][li] LESS mercs than we had before
[/li][li] 1 new recon merc that seems worse (both in balance and concept) than the recons that were removed
[/li][li] Very little map progress (although the Whitechapel last objective changes are great)
[/li][li] Same game breaking bugs like getting stuck in turrets or the end-game models showing up while playing (blown up train, flooded water) – I know they’re bugs, and can be hard to track down, but come on.
[/li][li] Still no closer to having necessary systems ready to go such as monetized or specialty skins, purchasing points, no real testing done on currency values etc.
[/li][/ul]
I know back when I started playing, Splash Damage had other projects going on at the same time and DB wasn’t a primary focus, I’m not sure if that’s still the case or not. Still love the gameplay but man I wish SD had a few more people working on this thing haha. My tiny virtual studio of people around the world with 9 to 5 jobs gets more gamedev work done than SD it seems.
If nothing else, be more open with the community. I notice the devs are still doing those weird “way too high production value” beta update videos every once in a while. Aside from training for releasing content to the masses, I don’t know what purpose these videos really serve. The quality of them, I mean. They only get a couple hundred views since the beta is still under NDA, so from a viewership standpoint they’re certainly not worth the effort. I love the updates, but why not just post quick and dirty fraps videos more often? Or just push new builds out the door?
Anyway like I said still really love the gameplay. Game is still really fun and feels solid. The new “anyone can revive” mechanic seems silly but that’s all I can really think to critique the gameplay honestly. My complaints are purely progress based, I want this game to get further along in development, I want more players (and less cheaters) to play with, more mercs to play as.
Also I’m glad the Dirty Bomb name is back \o/
I completely understand that…
I just think it should be Splash Damages responsibility to post the info on the Nexon forums and make sure it gets stuck to the top. I also agree that at the very least Nexon should start sectioning off the forums like they used to be. Again, I am not saying that things don’t suck right now… I am simply saying that SD are just as (if not more) responsible than Nexon.
I don’t know if this is typical of the current communication issues but remember the last few “important” posts have been on the Nexon forums before the Splash Damage ones with uses on these forums actually having to copy and paste it over. I guess based off that, that when Nexon are given the info they do post it. Could be completely wrong though.

This is so true, have FREQUENT updates on what you are doing, what is happening to the gameplay/mercs, dont wait to release a patch and THEN ask us if we like it or not, to me it feels like a lot of wasted time if what you are doing behind closed doors isn’t going to be like by the majority of the community when you show it to us
i hope what im saying makes sense

lol they should pay me to come down to the studio once a week for the day and play their version and just do a quick 30 min video explaining whats being focused on and most importantly what it feels like.
Jobs a good en lol

no, it’s Nexon’s responsibility to make sure the correct information is available to the testers, that’s their freakin job, they have full access to these forums and at least 2 people on staff to do UX, like I said, they’re failing huge
-.-
Why add more links to the chain…
Nexon get there info from Splash Damage and the pass it on to the testers…
Thats fine I get it… However, if Splash Damage are not giving them the info to pass on its their fault…
I would much rather prefer the information to come directly from the horses mouth rather then being edited and restricted by Nexon.
I suppose the conclusion is that neither of us truly know where the issue in this chain is…
But with us having the same lack of information issues on these forums as well… I am afraid at the very least SD are at least half responsible.
Actually as I remember it everyone that had never crossed paths with them before were open minded, albeit skeptical and a bit sad SD couldn’t finally do what they’ve been saying they’ve wanted to do for years and go it alone.
Literally everyone I’ve spoken to that was previously open minded now knows what a bunch of turds they really are, and this reputation is rubbing off on SD, although to be fair they had the choice of who to (or not to) partner with.
This whole situation makes me sad, surely Nexon can see that the mood has changed from given them a hard time because we don’t want them to balls it up, to utter disdain because everything they could balls up they have and they show no signs of changing.
With great power there must also come great responsibility, not arrogance and overlordship, or something like that.
A few of us were discussing this in a Whatsapp group earlier today. It’s not that I’m simply just avoiding the game, it’s just that it’s not giving me a reason (right now) to justify spending my spare time in it. I have great relationships with the folks at Splash Damage as well as the few Nexon folk that I deal with on a regular basis too. It’s for this reason that I find it really hard not to just give up on the game.
If I were to detach myself from those relationships, I’d come to the realisation that this game actually hasn’t come that far in terms of gameplay enjoyment from the first moment I installed the game back in 2012. I also feel that I’ve personally reached the end of the road in terms of what I can contribute to this game right now. It’s not that I feel unappreciated or anything like that, but just that I have nothing more to give. Once the spectator client starts getting attention, once in-game tournament/ladder/league systems are something that are actively worked on, once the NDA is lifted, that’s when I’ll feel I can be a useful member of the community again.

I somehow believe, SD doesnt know what they want to create. For me, DB is a bad hybrid of modern shooters and old school shooters. I play both types, both have stuff which keeps me playing, but DB has absolutley nothing why I should play it.
We are back at the normal situation with the DB beta since a couple of decisions were made which clearly harm the game. Most of the servers are empty. It is a shame because I believe SD is capable to create an awesome shooter. But instead they are wasting their money, time and talent on something which has no direction. As long as there is no clear direction and as long as they dump down the game (zone capture instead of hacking etc) I will not play the game.[/QUOTE]
sometimes, i think that hybrid is what they do want. what they still can do is: develop a fresh Search and destroy/Team-elim MOD. for ‘others’, and give us(freakin fans, you know!) BACK OUR BELOVED STOPWATCH. With class objects, with no object-win rule(stopwatch), with nades, and with big intelligent maps.
This hasn’t gone unnoticed, and in the short term we’re going to get you all the tools to deal with this while we work on longer term solutions.
It’s not my place to comment on the rest, but it will undoubtedly produce discussion.

Only discussion SD needs to have is what is the final product of the game going to be, the steps they need to get there, and then a post apologizing for wasting 2 years of our time and that all feedback should be directed to the new, final vision.
Yea… I was expecting a lot from the last update. I though the game would feel better and I would finally get some real fun playing it. Now I can’t even find the motivation to open the nexon launcher.
No nades, no reload while sprinting, useless iron sights, snipers fest instagibing everyone, cheaters, fps drops, movement not fun, could go on and on…
;(
