Change the way free rotations work

(frostyvampire) #1

I understand the point of free rotations and how they are important to help players see if they like the mercs and if they should purchase them or not, but the rotations are really annoying as the system is now.
Now we have Nader in the current rotation, which means there are at least 4 Naders’ in each server and the nade spam is real, and also all the Redeyes’ and smoke spam…

Can this please be changed so things like this don’t happen?
What I thought about is giving a free engineer to all players (as an extra to Aura and Skyhammer) so there’s no need in engies every rotation. Bushwhacker looks like a nice option because he is really simple to use, if you make Proxy free a lot of people will complain, about Bush even though sentries are annoying I still think he is a better option. People who already own Bush should receive an obsidian loadout card for him just so they don’t get completely screwed and think about how they wasted 50,000 credits for no reason. You can also give like 2 elite cases instead but I think an obsidian card makes more sense and people will be happier with it.

Then replace the rotations with a different system which will let each player use 2 random mercs for the week (the 2 mercs will change every Sunday at the same time when the daily bonuses reset).
Each person will get different mercs and you WILL be able to get mercs you already own (so people don’t abuse the system and decide they can save 100,000 credits because they know they will get the 2 mercs they don’t have), with the exception of Aura, Skyhammer and Bushwhacker because everyone gets them.

Short version:
-Make Bushwhacker a free merc
-Whoever already owns Bush when he becomes free will get an Obsidian rarity loadout card for him (optional but it makes sense to do it)
-Remove free merc rotations
-Every week, each player will receive 2 random mercs (different for each player) temporary and they will be able to use them for the entire week.
-You will receive 2 random mercs regardless of ownership, you will still be able to get 2 mercs you already own to avoid abuse of the system, with the exception of Bushwhacker, Skyhammer and Aura as everyone will have them

I think the obsidian and 2 elite cases would be a good idea, thats what they did with Phoenix. If you owned him, you would get an obsidian card for him and 2 elite cases, and if you didnt, you got phoenix. I agree with you on the nade and smoke spam, gets really annoying, making 2 mercs a weak also gives players a chance to get a feel for all of the mercs in a short amount of time.

(Equanimity) #3

Hmm I’m not sure what engie I’d want free. I definitely wouldn’t want it to be Proxy or Fletcher, but many of us on the forums were thinking it would be an awesome move by the devs to make Turtle ‘the free engie’. I’m not sure which would be more cancerous, him or Bush, but I definitely like the free rotation format being discussed here.

(BananaSlug) #4

just play on min 20, many people say its ok and that is why it probably wont change, also keep in mind that the spam will be for 2/3 days and then they will turn into useless people like always

(frostyvampire) #5

@BananaSlug
There aren’t many min lvl 20 servers and it’s too much effort to find one, I usually just use the quick join option and play on whatever server it puts me (unless I get put in an empty server or a high ping one and then I just go to the server browser and join the first available server I see).

(BananaSlug) #6

mark them as favorite and why would you use quick join? really use server browser and write there stuff like +eu, -max5, -8vs8, get what gamemodes do you want, mark less than 150ping, sort by ping and you are done!

all cool kids are doing that!

(terminal) #7

So more RNG? This has already been suggested before.

Also, I paid real money for Bushwhacker. I don’t him to be made free and given an obsidian card as compensation. If they were to do this, everyone and their grandmother would have an obsidian Bushwhacker. Since the player base isn’t really growing, we would always keep seeing the same obsidian Bushwhacker running around. “Oh, but what if the loadouts were different to get more variety?” then that would be the result of RNG cases and that would piss even more people off.

(frostyvampire) #8

@terminal
Why would you pay real money for mercs? Also they can do what they did with Phoenix by giving the obsidian card + elite case A + elite case B.
And to be honest I don’t understand why people hate RNG so much, sure it’s annoying to get something bad but at the same time you can get something really good and feel more special because you got lucky and then you can laugh at people who got Blishlok + Cauldren and bad perks. I actually would like to see the obsidian card RNG’d rather than the same for everyone

Also the player base DOES grow, just this week 3 of my friends started playing DB, MAYBE it looks like it doesn’t grow because a lot of people now play Overwatch but new players do come

RANDOM FREE MERC?! I WISH I START PLAYING IN 2016!

DO IT SD DO IT

PULL THE FAVOR AND DO IT

(no seriously i like this idea)

(KUST__LunarTM) #10

If any engineer should be made free, it has to be Turtle.

(arcaneCanvas) #11

but but but my 300k i had saved up…

Free Proxy means mine spam.
Free Bush means turret spam.
Free Fletcha means sticky spam.
Free Turtle means wall spam (probably).

You see, all but one are lethal. Since non-lethal options are probably the best choice for a free engineer, Turtle is the prime candidate.

(Xyfurion) #13

One fix for this would be to have a different rotation for every player (have it random). This would create more merc diversity in pub servers and would eliminate having 5 Stokers in one team spamming their fucking molotovs.

I love Stoker. Just not where there are 5 of them all sub level 10.

Skyhammer is the deadliest firesupport merc.
Aura is the tankiest medic

whats your point

(DarkMatterMatt) #15

What? Aura… tank…? Sawbonez is the tankiest medic and he’s not a tank…

(Dysfnal) #16

I’d give Bushwhacker, he’s mid-range between hard to use and easy to use. I do agree with the rotation idea, but prevent having multiple mercs of the same class, and set priority for mercs the person has not had in their rotation recently

I paid real money because I didn’t feel like grinding for credits and I had some dollars left over in my wallet.
Phoenix was a special case, you’re suggesting to give Bushwhacker to all players and future players for free and only give the obsidian card to the ones who had already paid for Bushwhacker.
I don’t see where you’re going with this second argument, you’re only further proving RNG isn’t good by saying how people can feel even worse after getting a bad card. I don’t want to have the chance to get a bad card if they actually do decide to make Bushwhacker free.
Also,

@terminal
Well it’s your opinion. But most people would like an obsidian card + 2 elite cases because they own Bush when he becomes free.
Because if you paid 10$ for it, it’s basically the same as buying 2 elite cases except you also get a rare card as an extra (reminder: people paid 15$ for obsidian Proxy + Aimee merc so it’s basically 5$ for the obsidian, here you get it for free).
And if you bought him with credits (like most people did) then it would make them even more happy because you can’t get elite cases with credits at all and as well as an obsidian card extra is nice.

Like I said, a lot of players left for Overwatch but it doesn’t mean they won’t come back. Also just because the player count is the same, doesn’t mean there are no new players. If there are 6,000 (just an example) players this month, and then 1,000 players leave for Overwatch and 1,000 new players join, next month will also display 6,000 players, we got 1,000 new players and the other 1,000 players (fine not all but at least 800) will come back next time there’s a big update (Turtle + Dockyard in this case).

When this game goes out of beta, and we have like 25+ mercs and at least 8 maps to play (including Dome that will be fixed and not hated) and a bunch of bugs will be fixed this game will become big, maybe not as big as csgo or cod but let’s say 100,000 people we will have

Show me the “most people” who want Bushwhacker to be made a free merc permanently and given an RNG card as compensation.
If I paid $10 for it, I want the $10 to go towards buying me Bushwhacker, not towards RNG cases. What you’re saying is basically “Oh, you bought a cup of coffee for $2.99? here’s 10 packs of condoms instead, it’s the same value”
It’s also unfair to give the same compensation to people who bought the merc with real money and those who paid with ingame credits.

A lot of the things that you’ve been saying has been your opinion and just optimistic thoughts.
You can’t even call this game a beta anymore, since they’re already charging real money for ingame items.
Even if it does “come out of beta” I doubt it would attract much attention.
