Am I the only one who thought the challenges were the best part of Brink and they should make more? I had WAY more fun on the challenges than I ever did in any of the campaign maps. The Parkour ones were just kind of meh, but the escort challenge and the challenge where you had objectives for Soldier, Engineer, and Operative were great fun and challenging in the later levels.
Challenges best part of the game?
I agree that more challenges would be a great idea, like the Spec Ops mode in MW2. Also could use a Horde mode like Gears of War 2.
But, no way they are the best part of the game. Too easy.
Would’ve liked more Parkour this style challenges. Got to 21 secs on 3 star, but the 30fps cap was getting annoying so stopped trying.
to me the challanges are more like a tutorial. i think its such a waste. the challenges could have been made into something so awsome. imagine challenges against another player in a 1on1 situation. imaging 2 parkour routes and a race. imagine a king of the hill “hold the command post” with 2vs2 or some more… there are so many possibilities.
imaging this for a future dlc… yea, a man can dream…
I really like the challenges myself, but as other players stated I think they’re there to serve as more of a tutorial than anything else.
If there was anything remotely decent about Brink, it was the challenges.
In saying that, the skill ceiling is so low, that there isn’t any need for them.
They are better suited in games in which the entry level is much much higher. Its something that could have been really cool in a game like ETQW, but then most of us that played the game - learnt the hard way with the beta and demo.
SC2’s challenge system is a good example of how it should be done.
I found some of the challenges annoying and boring. I find playing freeplay to be much more entertaining while the challenges felt more like a chore/tutorial.
I think the challenges are ok, but I doubt I’ll ever play them again. They work fine as a tutorial, but 3 ranks of each I think was a waste. Also, not being able to get unlocks in co-op was one of the worst design decisions in the game. Why else would anyone play challenge co-op?
It is MUCH harder in co-op. I can roll through the Tower one solo no problem, but with 3-4 players, it’s much tougher (especially when playing with newbie friends).
I enjoyed the challenges but after the second play of them, I really didn’t want to do them again. The main game is more fun. Though, I’m not against the prospect of adding new challenges.
I agree that co-op challenges are harder, but the rest of the game is much more fun. The only reason I ever played a co-op challenge in the beginning was because I thought I could help friends get their unlocks. Once I realized that wasn’t case, I never played a co-op challenge again. The co-op challenges just seem completely useless to me. And, in a game that is all about co-op and multiplayer, I don’t understand why the developers made the choice to not give unlocks in co-op challenges.
Challenges were just something I did in the first two weeks of having the game, and will probably never go back to.
Human vs Human Stopwatch on Security Tower / Container City is the best part of the game.
Following is opinion:
First two obectives on Sec Tower are favored for offense. The delivery objective can be defensively biased if the defense is given too much time to set up. The final objective is long and tough, but because there is really only one area where a complete hold can occur (just before the tight corridor in the gate…suiciding medics in just to get the escort into the corridor can help break this), it is really just a matter of moving fast enough to make it in time.
Container City is offensively biased throughout, ever since the defense got the 30 second respawn during part of the first bot escort mission… The final uploading part of the last objective can be difficult. But the gate, bot escort, and repair missions are all offensively-sided.
Reactor and Terminal were two maps that were really bad about full holds. I look forward to seeing them played with the new respawn, dehacking changes.
Challenges are not the best part of the game. but still fun. More rewards for doing them and no cap on the challenge star would’ve been cool especially in the co-op portion. Like an arcade mode that allows you to unlock more stuff or outfits. but co-op based unlocks for fun would improve the challenges.
I found them really tedious, boring and easy (except for 3 star “be more objective”). I would have skipped them if they didn’t unlock stuff.
