Right I have a very odd problem with ET.
I started experiencing problems with et a few weeks ago after I did a virus scan and it found et.exe to be infected with W32.Pinfi virus I think it was, so I tried to reinstall ET but I still kept getting the “ET.exe has caused an error in Windows” message with the ModName: Et.exe
I decided to reformat to see if that would sort the problems, it didn’t.
Now I get the same error but with the ModName: cgame_mp_x86.dll. I reinstalled ET and it worked, I reboot and it doesn’t. For ET to work I have to reinstall it before each time I play so obviously it is a file that is being affected.
So what I decided to do was reinstall and make a backup of etmain, etpro, pb and et.exe and when it crashed I placed them back into Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory folder.
This, again, did not work so I decided to check file sizes of the main dll’s and .exe’s to see if there was anything strange, what I noticed was that cgame_mp_x86.dll and all the other BACKUP files I saved to my documents had the same ‘Last Edited’ date as the ones in my ET Directory. This date and time was the last time I played ET.
Therefore no matter where I seem to backup my files they seem to be getting edited when I play ET. The only way to stop this is to archive/zip them and they don’t get edited.
I got my friend to send me a copy of the .dll’s in etmain and etpro as well as et.exe in zip format and unzipped them and again ET did not work.
My question is, does anyone know of a file that could be infected and is editing cgame_mp_x86.dll and causing it to crash when I run ET? Replacing cgame_mp_x86.dll does not work but reinstalling ET does. Therefore even though windows says cgame_mp_x86.dll is the problem surely it must be another file affecting it?
If any one has any ideas then please feel free to bring them up because its getting quite annoying having to reinstall ET each time hoping that it will work but not knowing for sure.
Also, I’ve uploaded a copy of the error log that windows created when it crashes (same log each time)
It is located at:

Hopefully I can get this really annoying problem sorted :banghead:
