Casual Matchmaking Test Event - ENDED

(Chris Mullins) #1

Unfortunately we had to end the event early due to unforeseen issues. Thank you for your patience.

We’re one step closer to permanently releasing our new Casual Matchmaking System for more evenly balanced matches, but we need your help to get there! For the next 24 hours, we’ll be switching on an Alpha version of Casual Matchmaking for you to test out. We’re not expecting things to be perfect - if you come across bugs or issues, please let us know in the Official Forums.

Test Event Duration

Casual Matchmaking will be enabled for the following times. The more you play during the test, the better the system will get at giving you a balanced match. As we’ll be focusing on Objective and Execution modes for this test, we’re disabling Casual Stopwatch matches and the Server Browser for its duration.
[] London (BST, UTC+1): 17:00 Monday, June 20 - 17:00 Tuesday, June 21
[
] Los Angeles (PDT, UTC-7): 09:00 Monday, June 20 - 09:00 Tuesday, June 21

Sydney (AEST, UTC+10): 02:00 Tuesday, June 21 - 02:00 Wednesday, June 22
What is Casual Matchmaking?

In a nutshell, Casual Matchmaking is the system that looks at your performance, amount of experience and skill level, and attempts to put you into matches that will give you the best possible experience.

Some of the most obvious changes will be -
[] You’ll be able to party up with friends and play on the same team
[
] Your matches will become more balanced
[] Matches may take slightly longer to find, as it will no longer be a simple server query…
[
] …But you’ll be able to move around the menu, open cases etc, while searching for them.
Casual Matchmaking will replace the Quick Join option - So ultimately the more players using Casual Matchmaking, the more balanced and easier to find your matches will be.

How do I use it?

While we have the Casual Matchmaking Alpha enabled, you’ll find it in the Play menu. From here, you can either Create a Party, or Find a Match by yourself.

After Creating a Party or joining one you’ve been invited to, you’ll see your Steam friends playing Dirty Bomb in the right-hand column. You can invite friends to your party, whether you’re hosting it or not and you can also filter maps and game mode by hitting the Change button (the Estimated Queue Time section will adjust accordingly). When satisfied with your Party, hit the Find Match button.

While finding a match or in the end-game lobby (which is still in its early stages and will be iterated upon), you can move around the menu freely. Check out the in-game news section, hunt for specials in the store, or open a case or two!

What’s the next step?

We want to be clear that this is very much a work in progress and we need to give the system an initial public test run to see if there are any unexpected issues, as overall scale is an essential component of a matchmaking system. We’re likely to do a few more of these tests before the system can stay live, but we also have some improvements that are already underway:
[] An option to automatically re-enter the matchmaking pool a bit after a match has completed
[
] Visual and usability polish on getting into a match and the new Postgame Lobby

Additionally to this, you will be able to review the last 10 Postgame reports from matches that you’ve played in the Profile section

The criteria that we use to balance matches will also be adjusted regularly based on our findings.

We’d like to thank you for your help, and happy fragging!

Is there any limit to party size for public matchmaking? Like how ranked is single, duo and 5 only. If you have a team of 4 in public, will it only match you up with other teams of 4, or just anyone of similar skill level regardless of their party size?

(Chris Mullins) #3

All games are 6v6 so if you search with a party of 4 you’ll get another 2 people added to your team.

(doxjq) #4

Perfect, cheers for clearing that up. I was worried it would limit you to only finding parties of the same size or that there would be party limitations, but that is good to know.

If I soloque, is it possible for me to be put in a lobby with a premade team and will I have be given teammates close to my skill level?

Yea i think that if yo soloque, you will be placed with 5 other people

(doxjq) #7

Hmm, there was hundreds of players online 20 minutes ago, and it’s telling me the queue time is more than 30 minutes? I’ll try again tomorrow because I can’t wait that long for a game right now.

WHAT ? Only Obj ? I play SW only Obj is boring
I will try a bit to help

(doxjq) #11

Yeah I’ll try again tomorrow. Just searched for 10 minutes then it automatically backed out of the queue.

(everlovestruck) #12

Is it working? I’ve neen queue-ing for 9 minutes and nothing whilst it said “expected queue time: 5 minutes”

(doxjq) #13

Yeah my mate just said the same thing. Queued for 10 minutes in EU which said less than 5 minutes then like me, it automatically backed out and stopped searching before he could find a game.

(ClemClem7) #14

Same here, I tried to relaunch the game. Can’t reach server browser too. I want to do SW.

PLEEAASE, All I want is to do some stopwatch !!!

(sonsofaugust5) #15

Is this suppose to be the new ranked?

(joshstylegaming) #16

NA matchmaking times at lvl 26 are toping 30+ minutes…
And it seems that the server browser has been disabled too…
This is something I’ve been complaining about for a while, there needs to be some sort of system in place in order to reduce these MM queue times as waiting 30 minutes for a match is WAY too long.

(Tankeroo) #17

well it seems we are being forced to “test” this crap cause everything else is disabled. GG SD. Might aswell play some OW

(ClemClem7) #18

@stayfreshshoe @RazielWarmonic
Can we have some answers/news ? or you’re busy trying to fix this ?

(Elvisz) #19
