Carentan - WIP map

(unf4z3d) #101

sorry, i know this is WAAAAAAYYYYY off topic, but i got a question about the colors in the name generator that nails clan owns…

in the ET source code the color table is:

vec4_t	g_color_table[32] =
	{
 { 0.0,	0.0,	0.0,	1.0 },	// 0 - black 0
 { 1.0,	0.0,	0.0,	1.0 },	// 1 - red 1
 { 0.0,	1.0,	0.0,	1.0 },	// 2 - green 2
 { 1.0,	1.0,	0.0,	1.0 },	// 3 - yellow 3
 { 0.0,	0.0,	1.0,	1.0 },	// 4 - blue 4
 { 0.0,	1.0,	1.0,	1.0 },	// 5 - cyan 5
 { 1.0,	0.0,	1.0,	1.0 },	// 6 - purple 6
 { 1.0,	1.0,	1.0,	1.0 },	// 7 - white 7
 { 1.0,	0.5,	0.0,	1.0 },	// 8 - orange 8
 { 0.5,	0.5,	0.5,	1.0 },	// 9 - md.grey 9
 { 0.75,	0.75,	0.75,	1.0 },	// : - lt.grey 10 // lt grey for names
 { 0.75, 0.75,	0.75,	1.0 },	// ; - lt.grey 11
 { 0.0,	0.5,	0.0,	1.0 },	// < - md.green 12
 { 0.5,	0.5,	0.0,	1.0 },	// = - md.yellow	13
 { 0.0,	0.0,	0.5,	1.0 },	// > - md.blue 14
 { 0.5,	0.0,	0.0,	1.0 },	// ? - md.red 15
 { 0.5,	0.25,	0.0,	1.0 },	// @ - md.orange	16
 { 1.0,	0.6f,	0.1f,	1.0 },	// A - lt.orange	17
 { 0.0,	0.5,	0.5,	1.0 },	// B - md.cyan 18
 { 0.5,	0.0,	0.5,	1.0 },	// C - md.purple	19
 { 0.0,	0.5,	1.0,	1.0 },	// D 20
 { 0.5,	0.0,	1.0,	1.0 },	// E 21
 { 0.2f,	0.6f,	0.8f,	1.0 },	// F 22
 { 0.8f,	1.0,	0.8f,	1.0 },	// G 23
 { 0.0,	0.4,	0.2f,	1.0 },	// H 24
 { 1.0,	0.0,	0.2f,	1.0 },	// I 25
 { 0.7f,	0.1f,	0.1f,	1.0 },	// J 26
 { 0.6f,	0.2f,	0.0,	1.0 },	// K 27
 { 0.8f,	0.6f,	0.2f,	1.0 },	// L 28
 { 0.6f,	0.6f,	0.2f,	1.0 },	// M 29
 { 1.0,	1.0,	0.75,	1.0 },	// N 30
 { 1.0,	1.0,	0.5,	1.0 },	// O 31
	};

which i presume is just converted into hex easily, so red/1 shoudl be FF0000 not DA0120

(tested ss in photoshop, and came up with the same result… the colors u see in the HTML are not the true ET colors)

(SLUT Paralysis) #102
EXACTLY, and you (Pegazus) want to defend SLUT ?
they ripped my site off for the nick generator and had the nerve to put their name on it
now they are whining because some one else made another version of Carentan for public use, while theirs is made for a mod that only runs on 1 server with maybe 50 players at most

they both ripped off the original CoD2 mapper

both parties are exhibiting extremely childish behavior

btw, if anyone missed the humour in my earlier posts/pics of the terrain for Flight Gear, it’s Carentan
Ok, I’m typing very calmly, so don’t take my words offensive, they are just things i wonder about. Trying to move in the way your head looks like (the brains i mean :D)

First: AFAIK a forum is welcoming discussion, so it’s not about who is defending who or why. We are not asking these q’s to persons with a vision in favour of Indy. Pega is just expressing things he thinks imo.

Second: very handy to take away the issue focus from Carentan which was the original topic and, in favour of Indy, not what he intended at all by opening this thread, to the sig-creator. Easy way of going around the topic, which clearly doesn’t have any interests to you imo. If I encounter a topic where i really don’t know anymore what to write and i actually want to adress a problem to some users on the forum (i.c. Shagi), then don’t post it or start a new one or use pm  instead of using this problem (which it clearly was) to put the whole of us in a bad daylight. Purely on the judicial matter you are correct btw, but adapted already.

Third: it seems you didn’t get the sarcasm manwhore expressed in his post on page 3 of this thread. It was an invitation to make your mind use the sarcasm level to ensure you of the facts how things went. Clearly that didn’t work  for you posted angry towards us lol (as if we would do such a thing)

Fourth: I recognized Carentan port. Been there, but a lot of ports in France look very much like it. The sky-photo was not familiar

Fifth: we didn’t rip off, it started from scratch, like you start a new map from scratch (for which i refer to my previous post with the comparison with a painter sitting at his paint, drawing the church blablabla). That is just the whole point: no problem with Indy making the map also. On the contrary: we encourage mapping for it keeps the community alive AND it makes us test and play new maps, which is the ultimate experience to me personally. The thing is: it’s just bad marketing and, talking about respect, trusting too much on own respect and lack of respect towards others, by pushing a release at the same time. Positive point however is: release is completely public.
Let me compare with something easy: if you’re working on an innovative (or new version) of a product, say… uhm… a mobile with extra add-ons and gadgets and so, and you share some information, being in good faith, with a co-marketer, you feel pretty f*cked when that co-marketer goes also on the market with a similar (though not exactly the same) product, being able to put his costs lower than yours and so on… What do you do? You invoke rights or patents, if you got them. At least you have a legal framework, protecting you against things like this that inevitably happen sometimes… Now compare it to the issue here at hand and you’ll get a more clear view. (plz don’t reply with “this is not the same case” cuz it’s pretty impossible to find a ‘same’ case irl compared to the digital life, ok?)
I’m not insulting anyone, not trying to convince you, not whining or stuff like that. Just stating facts…

Sixth: i want last word   :stroggtapir:

Proposition of solution? nothing to do about it, so let’s welcome the maps and play them and enjoy to finally play better maps than the previous versions?

(Pande) #103

new idea: how about Indy finishes this map AND that other CoD map I hear he was working on (what one, btw, if you feel inclined to tell us? I’m guessing Pavlov, am I right?) and then release that as a map pack, later on? That would keep indy working on something, and also allow some gap time for Kha Ran Than to be released.

@Nails: here are the proper HTML values, plus 5 missing values, put into the generator:

(also used updated array in my own generator)

(Nail) #105

haha, ain’t gonna happen and I agree, let both mappers finish their maps and that way the VS clan and the public can both have a new improved Carentan map

:stroggbanana:

I get it. the SLUTs are actually Steve Jobs and Apple, and Indy is actually Bill Gates and Microsoft.

(aaa3) #107

mega-off: actually, i think apple is roughly just as bad as microsoft - and as google as well (+ibm, novell, etc). they are all innovators, and, business entities. this latter includes fud, and selling sht, and spying (now meaning in regard of end users, not each other), and drm, and lock-in, and stealing ideas from others, and passing off stuff as theirs, and abusing in general, et c. (if we wanna pick 1 for each: apple sells sht, ms passes off as original inventor (and generally f**king with users), google spies. but all doing all.) all are dangerous, all are wery powerful and wealthy, yet all’s products (except apple) are so good/or ubiquitous that we almost “have to” use them, at least chosing them benefits us most. (win xp and g. search - we cant play on other os, and other searchers suck). ok, apple is less bad behaving, but then it sells regular useless incompatible stuff unjustifiedly expensive, just to appeal to some stupid ppl who who think they will be stylish or unique etc bc. they own a mac. plus it isnt a white knight anyways to use in such an example (eg. itunes drm), i just said not as bad as the other 2. apple doesnt serve any useful purpose/fills an useful position at all in the market.
p.s. lol @ mac.

(Pegazus) #108

Now the big question pops up…
Who is better Steve Jobs and Apple or Bill Gates and Microsoft. Hi Hi

(Pande) #109

/end rant?

(Nail) #110

and the winner is

Linus Torvalds and Free Software Foundation

(aaa3) #111
and the winner is
Linus Torvalds and Free Software Foundation
khm… Richard M. Stallman and Free Software Foundation  isnt?

(unf4z3d) #112

well, i guess SLUT can breathe easy, this place is so full of spam that when indy finally posts his map, it will be buried in 10 pages of crap b4 neone sees it

LINUX pwns U

(Nail) #113

well, sort of, Linus wrote the kernel. The rest of the system, including utilities and libraries, came from the GNU operating system, Stallman had no kernel

Remember IBM’s PC-DOS came before MS-DOS (licensed version of PC-DOS) and it was originally developed by Tim Patterson as QDOS (Quick and Dirty Operating System) before being marketed as 86-DOS, which Gates bought and used to enslave the world as we know it

anywho, my winner still stands imo

please move all non-related posts here http://www.splashdamage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16087 .

nah, everything was resolved, so it’s off-topic we go

LOL.

You need to post a tut of your terrain and how you made it!!!

(IndyJones) #117

terrain has been made with triangle shaped brushes, and then i was moving vertexes in Z axis.

(unf4z3d) #118

GTK gensurf? or did u hand-draw triangles?

(IndyJones) #119

hand-draw, but not every triangle is the same.

(DeatH) #120

I meant the alpha blending.
