Capture the flag!

(SentencedToBurn) #1

What the hell, am I the only damned person who wants this game mode in BRINK?!
It would be friggin’ perfect. I’m already getting bored because I’ve done everything in the game, and it would really switch things up on the maps. That way you can experiment with trying to do attack and defense at the same damned time.

Nobody can argue that it wouldn’t be perfect and fun. do it SD.

(Tope) #2

The game is set up as defenders vs. attackers.

There are a few maps which take advantage of attackers taking an objective to some place.

So if you want to play CTF, be on the team with an adjective like that.

(Shadow07) #3

Yeah capture the flag would be quite cool, will have to wait and see

(EnderWiggin.DA.) #4

Just ask for baserace. That is all.
The game is set up as defenders vs. attackers.
NO ****, GET THE HELL OUTTA HERE! REALLY?

that’s what I’m saying bro. CTF so we can do both. BRINK is already getting boring for me. CTF always makes it fun. Have it the way its always set up: 5-10 mins on one side, 5-10 mins on the other side of the map. equality. most caps wins.

Also, you mean “objective”, not “adjective”. And I can’t think of any missions that are REMOTELY close to capture the flag, except “refuel”, and even then, that’s just a small portion of that mission (hydraulic fluid part)

(tokamak) #6

The whole point of being dedicated to either attacking or defending is that two teams clash right together, where as with capture the flag small skirmishes across the map erupt where you only have a small part in the outcome. That’s not interesting.

(Lionaro) #7

I never liked CTF, so i don`t need it in Brink.

(Honelith) #9

CTF would be alot of fun. Please add it SD.

(Psi Brain) #10

CTF would be a fun addition.:stroggbanana:

(Sheza) #11

It doesn’t harm anybody, I would like to see it too.

(tokamak) #12

It harms the resources they can spent on this game.

(Protector) #13

Add it for those who want it, those who don’t want it, don’t join the server thats playing it…

(fearlessfox) #14

Don’t add it. Add more Brink specific original modes please.

Release an SDK and let the community add this if it’s wanted enough across the board, but SD should concentrate on what makes Brink so wonderful: its uniqueness.

(tokamak) #15

It doesn’t work like that. SD shouldn’t waste valuable resources on something that the game isn’t about in the first place.

(SentencedToBurn) #16

Thanks for your wonderful insight as to how games work, Tokamak.
Waste valuable resources? They’ve got my damned $68 bucks. Game modes are repetitive, CTF would be PERFECT for this kind of game.

Something the game isn’t “about”? what the hell is that supposed to mean? did you get an extra booklet in your game case explaining what Brink is specifically “about”, and that under no circumstances, would CTF be fun in BRINK? I really don’t understand your logic here (probably because there IS none).

Why do you assume it would take an exorbitant amount of money and resources to implement a simple game mode into the maps? simple: remove barricades and open up map, remove plot objectives, add singular objectives at each spawn. That doesn’t take up “valuable resources”. Au contraire, mon frere, it would be a simple effective way to extend the playability of this already tiresome game… Any idiot with the dev tools could make a game mode for the PC and perfect it within a couple days.

(tokamak) #17

The maps are made in one direction, everything is designed around a bunch of attackers moving forward while being hindered by attackers, you can’t just put a game mode that requires maps to work in two directions, that would be a clear and obvious bias towards one team.

And once again, it’s the objective driven gameplay that makes this game. Two teams fighting over the same thing is way more exciting that two teams having to divide their attention. You’d need two or three times the amount of people for the same intensity in shootouts.

If you really want to play CTF, pick a game that actually suits it.

(Senyin) #18

I find this a strange comment, like there is an endgame or something.
Do you get bored with CTF once you captured for blue and captured for red?
Get an assist, return a flag ect. Oh, now I’ve done everything, I quit, bye.
I don’t get it.

Anyway, I love (or use to love) CTF but I rather see a more relaxed game type like freezetag, jailbreak or even catch the tapir.
Nothing too ‘serious’. I quess I’m oversaturated with CTF and I hate how lately many people play FFA/TDM in a CTF game
They are ignoring the objective: capture and/or help your team capture.
And I’m like…what the hell did you join a TEAMBASED game for?
I’m afraid it will be no different in Brink.

I am not against Brink CTF though, but I rather see new objective based maps for Brink

Oh and I’m not voting on that poll, come on now. I would have voted
yes if it was a normal poll.

(Kendle) #19

I think Brink has some elements that would suit CTF.

Having played a lot of Urban Terror, which is played CTF in competition and was doing “parkour” long before SD ever dreamt of it, I can see Brink suiting the game mode perfectly.

Lights for flag running, Heavies for defense, 5-v-5 wouldn’t be a problem (UrT is played 5-v-5, 2 on defense, 2 flag runners and a mid-fielder to cover both).

The SMART movement system is supposed to be a big selling point of Brink but currently there’s nothing to really showcase it. CTF would be perfect as it’d give players a reason to work out how to get from one side of a map to the other as quickly as possible, both in terms of which route to take and the particular skills needed to traverse that route using the Light body type and the SMART system.

CTF would be fun, it doesnt need to be a flag can be a suitcase for example .
