I played this game years ago and wanted to get my sons playing it and they love it. However, we are pretty tired of the main 6 maps and I have been unable to install any new maps. I have downloaded new maps and put the .pk3 file into the etmain folder, but nothing is coming up. Any help would be appreciated. I am on Windows 7 Pro.
Can't Install New Maps
Hey theman87,
Are you hosting a local server on your computer or are you visiting any remote server where you do NOT have access to OR are you just playing locally (Like testing the map out with /map command)

I am using my computer as the host and having my boys connect to my IP address. It works great and we have played on the regular 6 maps, but would like to add a few new ones into the rotation.
Your problem is most likely caused by the default gametype, which is campaign mode. For a map to show up in a new/existing campaign, one has to write a new .campaign file for it which requires some background knowledge. However, you can easily avoid this struggle by setting your gametype to objective mode. In objective mode, all maps found in etmain directory will appear automatically and you can just select them.
That’s probably the best idea, indeed.
#1: Simply exec objectivecycle.cfg and edit this file beforehand just as you need.
#2: If you do not want to play after a specific cycle, you can still run /map mapname on your console to force a map.
#3: If you want to run your server more easily, you can create a shortcut of your ETDED.exe and add
+exec server.cfg
to the end of the target location input field, so the server runs automatically by a double click only.
Note: Make sure you are editing your server.cfg file the right way (e.g. set dedicated must be the correct number for your needs) if you want to do #3. Also you would have to comment campaigncycle.cfg with two foreslashes and uncomment objectivecycle.cfg (remove the slashes) beforehand.

It looks like the maps that I downloaded were all single-objectives. Now that I have changed the map type to single-objective, I can see them all. Now I will see if I can figure out how to combine them into a campaign.
Thanks for the help.
You’re probably better off ditching campaign mode and setting up an objective cycle like Jonny hinted at in his post. Campaigns are a questionable feature and require loads of configuration overhead for a single benefit (having all the map pins on the loading screen compared to only the current one) and have the giant disadvantage of not allowing to spontaneously load individual maps at runtime.
Open the objectivecycle.cfg in your etmain directory and adjust the pattern to your needs. You can find the mapnames of the ones you downloaded by opening the pk3 with a zip viewer, the name of the .bsp file in the maps folder is the name you want to put in the cycle.cfg. There’s no definite maximum number of maps you can put in a cycle, and since you’re hosting a local server you can just keep adding maps until you might or might not run into an error.
To load the config, run “/exec objectivecycle.cfg” on the server command line.
