can't connect to any server (ET nor RTCW)

ÃŒ’m having a strange problem…
I’ve been playing ET for the past months but this afternoon I encountered a strange problem:
When I start ET.exe and click on “play online” the screen freezes for about 20 sec. (can’t move the mouse whatsover)
After that it shows the ‘server’ menu but none of the servers are showing, it’s blank, even when I click the refresh button…
So I tried connecting with the All Seeing Eye: Now all servers are showing and I choose one with the lowest ping,
It connects to the server But it takes about 1 min (normally it takes just a couple of seconds) to connect and I get the message:
"for low pings only’’.
I tried a few other servers with low pings with the same result…

I reinstalled ET (no result) reinstalled it again and then decided as a last resort to format my Harddisk and start all over again.
I format my :c drive and installed ET and the same thing happened again…
I then installed Return To Castle Wolfenstein, just to see if i could connect: well the same thing happens,
the screen freezes for 20 sec and then no server is showing (this is rtcw v1.0 no punkbuster installed).
Tried to connect via the all seeing eye to any RTCW server with a low ping and I get this message “Client_Unkown_To_Auth”
So both ET as RTCW can’t connect to any server…
I’m really wondering what could be wrong? I’m pretty sure It has something to do with my pc. Just hoping someone encountered the same thing and has a solution…

Sounds like you have a problem communicating with the id servers. I read on PlanetWolfenstein forums that someone else had this problem as well, and it’s probably caused by incorrect routing somewhere on the Internet.

etmaster.idsoftware.com (192.246.40.60)
pbguidauth.idsoftware.com (192.246.40.62)

Ping one of the hosts above (type “ping etmaster.idsoftware.com” in a command prompt) to determine if you can communicate with it. There are two possibilities: either the host name doesn’t resolve correctly (“Unknown host”, in which case you have a DNS problem), or you get “Request timed out” (which means that you don’t get any response, and indicates incorrect routing).

Unfortunately there’s not much you can do about incorrect routing other than waiting until it gets fixed or contacting your ISP.

 I have the same problem. The only servers I can connect to with ASE are servers where Punkbuster is disabled. Man this sucks. :frowning:

and you are both from the Netherlands and u both have Chello as ISP. WOW i see dead people :eek3:

read this: http://gathering.tweakers.net/forum/list_messages/831473/last//
they are talking about it too. It seems to be a Chello routing problem.
