Hey all,
Whilst I’m roughly 99% sure I will be buying Brink on day one, I was just wondering if there will be a pre-release demo? Or even if they’ll be a demo after release?
Cheers :)!

Nope, but once the sales start dwindling it’s reasonable to expect free weekends and everything.
Darnit ><. I always like to try before I buy. I guess I just have to hope there will be early reviews.
I think though, although I’m very worried as the last time I did this the game turned out to not interest me at all, I’m going to take a leap of faith and just buy it :).
SD’s last two games were excellent, addictive and have an incredibly long lifespan. So there’s no need to worry much about it here.
I guess people have different definitions of exellence.
ET- yes

If you want to try before you buy, rent it on ps3 or xbox, so long as you keep in mind your playing on a console, it can give some incite as to what the game is like first hand with out spending $50
Like many before me, the answer is no.
It makes better business sense, to me, to provide a demo a few months or weeks prior to the game, not 10 days. That way the public gets a taste of the game, but not the full product (as a demo almost always have some content restrictions in some form or another) and the developers have time to do some housekeeping before-hand if needed. If you provide a demo too close to launch, it kinda kills the anticipation over the game.
I would be all for a demo, but unfortunately, it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen. SD is asking us to trust them on this one, as I don’t think Splash Damage is going to bother giving out a public demo this close to release.
So, sorry, no.
[QUOTE=NeutraiIty;286983]Demos are usually done in order to get volunteer bug hunters to do the dirty work and/or to wet the market’s appetite (in which case the demo would be launched a few weeks or months prior)

Grrrr Brainwashed public!!
BETAS are for bug hunting.
DEMOS are for sampling a game
BETAS ARE NOT DEMOS AND VICE VERSA. Even though certain publishers like to treat them as such.

Bingo! ETQW blows and makes me very skeptical of Brink. While I am hoping to support this game, SD will definitely not get a pre-order from me. Too many red flags. No public beta, no demo. Huge red flags for me, what are they trying to hide?
Got burned on Homefront, Breach, Wolfenstein 2009. Dodged the bullet with Black Ops, MW2 and Crysis 2. Now granted, it was because I tried to MP demo for Crysis 2 that I didnt buy the game. I mean it just plain sucked! 6 vs 6 is just ridiculous for a PC game.
So could be that SD realizes Brink is going to suck, and they do not wish to have a negative impact on their initial sales by having a public beta or demo before the game comes out. I know alot in my former clan dropped ETQW (that we were all eagerly looking forward to) like a hot rock when we tried the beta.
I will be keeping an eye on things here in the forums. I will be looking to see if there are proper stand alone dedicated server files released. What the player feedback is like. Im sure there will be alot of issues, as there are with most releases. Just irks me to know most of the issues could have been remedied with a proper open public beta.
Oh yeah, a lack of public beta means the game has demons to hide. God what has happened to this world. So full of self entitled people. It’s no wonder noone gives a crap about their fellow man anymore.
To anyone on console who wants to try before they buy.
Select “Try it for free.” If you like the game then go buy it and send the game disc back and cancel the trial. If you don’t like it then DON’T go buy it and send the game disc back and cancel the trial.
Already preordered on steam.
I don’t think SD is hiding something. I’m pretty sure they are very proud of their product. Many new games don’t feature a demo.
If movement proves to be as slow as the videos show, i’ll probably not play this competitively simply because it would turn out to be a spamfest of grenades and whatnot. I’m wagering that SD does the right thing and either patches movement speed or allows for modding if that is the case.
Then theres SMART, and sure it might be nice. But my idea of freedom of movement differs slightly.
In response, NeutraiIty I don’t think you understand what a demo is or what marketing is for that matter.
LyndonL, it’s not being entitled asking for a demo. It’s more than sensable to ask to be able to try before you buy. I know that it may not be the case for you either because your a younger person or an adult with a fair salary but some, if not most, people don’t have a lot of money. Some people, like myself, barely have enough to pay off the important stuff, yet alone spending money on a game. In fact I very rarely buy games, as I just don’t have the money for it. £40-50 is a lot of money to spend on something, it’s way to much money to spend on something that may or may not reach ones expectations.
But then again, I wouldn’t expect you to understand, as your comment shows just how closed minded you are.
I have faith in Splash Damage, and I am 99% sure I will be buying the game on launch day, it’d just be nice to try before I buy (without renting). I may end up renting the game and giving it a whirl, but to be honest I think I’m just gonna trust Splash Damage and buy the game :).
