…a simple explanation would certainly help out…as I have no clue what this is all about.
thx
Download the award winning R3 trailer and look at the camera movements, which were created using this tool.
I. Introduction
Camtrace 3D (ct3D) is a standalone application which essentially allows you to create camera paths in Wolfenstein: Enemy
Territory or Quake 3 Defrag.
Initially, ct3D was created by Jérôme Bressoud (alias gg67) for the ‘R3 ET Trailer’ (http://www.own-age.com), that is, for
WolfET. Then, to answer some demands, it can also generate camera path for Quake 3 Defrag too.
To use ct3D in a good way, you need to understand how and on what ct3D works. Basically, it uses game commands.
It makes translations between the design representation of camera path and these commands. To use these paths, ct3D
generates ‘cfg’ files which will be executed in the game.
This is a summary of what ct3D can do:
Ability to create camera paths and to modify them as you wish.
Import camera/entities coordinates generated from the game
Define curve duration.
Launch a specific demo with custom configuration directly from the software.
I’ve being playing around with it most of day, all I can say is that it’s one handy little tool, once got hang of it was able to create ‘camera path’ much quicker than could with the radiant camera plugin. To answer Ragnar_40k 's question, no it isnt, it’s a stand alone programm that uses the bsp data rather than the map data when viewing the map to plot your camera path so no need to decompile the stock maps for making movies with scripted cameras. Anyway I like it.
Nice. Many people have been waiting for the release of this tool. Does anyone have information about the main R3 movie?
Looks great, but I don’t really get the program.
Isn’t there a help file somewhere or a small tut just to get you started?

A question:
What’s the CamTrace3D EtPro Config.exe for?
Missed something:
Thnx for releasing the tool.

hello
“CamTrace3D EtPro Config.exe” used to export coordinates (control point) from the game to ct3d.
It contents some binds and script commands.
p.s.: it’s possible that EDV for RTCW will be compatible with ct3d in few months.
greetings
hey gg67 (you’re the one who made this prog right?)
ive been waiting for this prog ever since i saw the R3 trailer (which was about a year ago i think lol)
ive been tinkering around with it, but i cant seem to get things right…
couldnt you make a little tutorial that covers all basic things from starting the program to having your camera work in a demo?
i made a little curve, had no idea how to add target points or anything (manual tells me nothing either), then i had no idea how to “open” it in ET… (again, cant find anything in manual while scimming it through roughly…)
heya,
yep it’s me
sorry, i have no time to make tutorials atm. but join #smireboule (quakenet) on mirc and send your question
or here http://ct3d.twen.name/forum
BUMP
I tried to use this tool but it won’t work.
I made a .cfg file for the camerapaths. I open et.exe and type:
/g_gametyp2
/sv_pure 0
/devmap mapname
Then I type /exec cameras/cam1.cfg (the cfg I’ve created) and I get a list of errors:
unknown cmd freecamsetpos
unknown cmd freecamsetpos
unknown cmd freecamsetpos
…
and so on.
What did I do wrong?
bumping this old topic
i try to get it to work, is there some tut on this anywhere ?
The vid doesn’t seem to work anymore of the R3 clan, but it can be found here
