I think the artillery effect is not really realistic. Suddenly there are just explosions. What I like better is the flying mortar from RTCW…
But what I would do is:
I would combine the flying mortar from RTCW make it a little bigger… So it looks like big shells from boat or guns from out side the map.
And then keep the giant artirelly explosions. ( The mortar explosions are to little ) So picture it like this:
A smoke trial flying through the sky. A whistling sound maybe multiple…
Fffffwwwww and then boom, boom boom. With lot’s of smoke and big explosions. The little difference is in the smoke trail… that would give you a little hint that it is coming. The only hint you have now is the red smoke… but that’s a bit weird ?
Another idea which comes to mind is for other team members to call in for mortar… for example they could ask with their binoculars to call for mortar… BUT the big difference with the field ops is that other team members will have to provide the mortar… (not the computer)
So if there are other soldiers with mortar the receive those coordinates… or angles… and can use them to try and shoot mortars to those locations…
That would be a blast
