call of doody

please please pleasseeee perfect every part of the game that can be compared to call of duty, take down activision and their profitable cow. This game has ridiculous potential as an arcade style shooter, take down call of duty, and show them what fast paced games are about. I extremely want this game to be known and am going to take all personal efforts to make sure people know about it. From the vidocs and dev diaries it seems like you have successfully taken the awesome parkour style elements from adventure games like assassin’s creed and tied them into a shooter, regardless of how well this game does, you are pushing shooters into a new age of movement and fast paced action, and should be very proud. I can’t wait to get my hands on it.

For most this will seem like a rant, but for anyone concerned with the dullness of ‘next-gen’ shooters nowadays will take a bow, because everything at the moment looks the same.

I used to love Call of Duty, back when it didn’t recycle itself like some dumb fanboy.

The biggest challenge will be getting people who are used to the very simplistic style of play presented in CoD to convert to the objective, class based and multi-layered style in which, frankly, SD is a pioneer. So the question is less can SD make a game that is better than CoD (they have always done so IMO) and more will the mass market gamers accept such a game?

(Spaiker) #3

Not to forget, teamplay!

(ED209) #4

Don’t forget to add Zombies. Yeah I hope Brink gets a better shake of the stick than ET:QW got. Changing peoples gaming habits is a little more tricky.

I agree that SD has been always superior to call of duty multilayer game-play, because a fps game themed with a conflict between 2 factions that struggle for territorial domination, and this is supposed to be achieved by denying areas in order to protect objectives (objectives don’t have to be given by the game design itself . . . for example: denying the enemy a high ground area that gives advantage to who controls should be an objective for both teams).
Most fps games are understood by the gamers as death match nonetheless whatsoever objectives must be achieved to win as a team.
Splash Damage Team has always delivered the territorial conquest by team effort style., there for call of duty was never even close to reach SD level of game design.
To experience what what I described, install Wolfenstein Enemy Territory (it’s free).

The whole CoD series are built upon the idtech3 engine, same as q3 and ET. Movement reminds me of ET, fluid and fast as opposed to BC2’s clunky gameplay so it was a natural transition for me after things went downhill (into etqw) after ET.

Fantastic skills like mine isn’t a necessity to have fun, a decent computer is, however. 0 teamplay, a “hardcore” mode for people who camp and don’t know how to track a target, other than that it’s actually a blast.

Most joy comes from people raging. It gives me pleasure.

Lol what? Apples, are you here?

(gunzo) #12

From wikipedia:

Main article: IW engine

All of Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty games utilize the id Tech 3 (Quake III Arena) engine.[11] The first two games used a proprietary license of the engine with the sequel featuring more powerful visuals and DirectX 9 support.

How about them apples.

(Crytiqal) #13

The movement in CoD is nothing like ET.

PS: Keep up the good work, 52+ posts in 1 day is pretty impressive. someone might even think your just trolling everywhere.

(gunzo) #14

Of course there are many prominent factors that seperate the two, but once you get some experience there is definately a similar feel of smoothness that is present in most games based on that particular engine.

The same can not be said about the idtech4 engine.

I don’t have anyting to say about your trolling comment exept that i understand that you guys have a tight community here. But shunning newcomers isnt the right thing to do, even if you consider their attempts at humor to be ill suited.
On my part and in regards to the above mentioned transgressions i extend my cincerest apologies if i have offended anyone.
It was never my intention to trespass on your community, or belittle anyones ability to perform well in games.

I think we were more offended at the little effort you put into trolling, rather than the trolling itself… at least you tried.

As to the speed, the sprint pace in CoD is akin to the standard movement of ET without sprinting, though I would argue that CoD is also perceived to be slower due to the low FOV. The problem is, all you have is sprint and that’s it. ET allows strafing down slops, hops, ramps and consecutive CJ’s to garner more speed and make use of the slight ground and air acceleration. It also doesn’t suffer from the “oh I suddenly weigh 500kg’s because I jumped 1 second ago” syndrome. The 1st CoD allowed for strafing and consecutive jumps… it was removed in a patch and brought in line with CS… as if it didn’t take enough from that game as it was at the time.

[/QUOTE]I disagree. You trolled. I defended my opinion.

(DarkangelUK) #18

Are you at least going to make 1 post on-topic and reply to my comments regarding game speed?

(gunzo) #19

your lack of wit or any effort put into any of your posts is rather depressing and boring. please. try a bit of sarcasm every now and again. it does wonders.

also you’re posting on these forums like a postcount matters for something… which last i checked it has no bearing on anything in 95% of games…

at any rate i myself have always found movement and such in “realistic” shooters annoying at best atrocious at worst.
