Build your own set of mercs

(.FROST.) #1

Of course, this is only fan-fiction, but since I’m a life-long fan of comics and since 3 years, or so, also a great fan of SD and their products, and because of “current events”, I can’t resist to suggest the following; two new sets of mercs, derived from the B-Man U.

•Batman-Soldier

•Nightwing(Robin)-Field Ops

•Batgirl-Medic

•Catwoman-Sniper

•Red Hood-Engineer

•Bane-Soldier

•Two Face-Field Ops

•Poison Ivy Medic

•Scarecrow-Sniper

•Joker-Engineer

PS: I’m a huge comic fan, but mostly (80-90%) due to their visuals, I never was too much into the stories themselves, even though I must’ve read literally thousands of em. But character wise and origin wise, my knowlege is only a bit above average, especially when it comes to the DCU. As long as I can remember I was a Marvel guy; later I prefered the Image/Top cow and the Dark Horse stuff.

So don’t kill me for my noobish pick of heroes and villains, or the classes I gave them. Those are only examples to make my point.

Please dear forum, feel free to build your own sets of mercs, consisting of other Batman heroes and villains; or themed by completely other IPs; i.e. X-Men vs Hellfire Club, Mass Effect mercs; I’d love to see Resistance and Security mercs, or Star Wars themed mercs(no, that was just a bad joke, please, under no circumstances, do that:wink:)

Not that I want to crush the mood here, but there will surely be copyrights SD will not own to do this … it’s the same debate as getting stroggs’ skins in DB … they just don’t own the franchise …

Moreover they have made it pretty clear with the settings, the “story” and pretty much all the elements of the game that DB will have a serious look (which I strongly disapprove, we need more WTF in this game). I believe there are more important matters to discuss at this stage of the development.

It’s not like this little “stray away/what if” thread here would actually occupy room, that otherwise could be used more effectively for the production and advancement of DB. It’s basically the same thing, as questioning; why SD is not entirely focusing on the gameplay side of things and cranks out art pass, after art pass? At wich it should be clear though, that those departments are only more or less losely connected to each other. With other words; quitting on funny “what if” stuff in the forums, or on texturing the maps in the actual game doesn’t necessarilly mean, that the game, or the gameplay will be improved a whole lot faster due to this.

The production of a game works parallel, most of the time and not so much in line, as some seem to assume. Same goes for this forum; threads are created parallel and therefore aren’t blocking anything.

Maybe that flying turret could get in DB?

I think you can get the WTF effect without having to go over the top silly. Both TF2 and Battlefield Heroes have shown that even in a cartoony context you can go too far with the ridiculous skins and accessories. SD did a great job of giving you a fair amount of customization in Brink without letting you break the style of the game, I hope they will keep a similar restraint in DB.

(.FROST.) #7

Exactly what I hope too. This thread isn’t meant to be completelly serious. The idea of Batman-U themed mercs just sprung into my mind for obvious reasons, but we are basically on same page here, Djiesse. Yet I don’t think it’d be too far streched if SD would create mercs to reference some characters of their games, even if it’s only time limited.

EA and Bioware do such things all the time and Mortal Kombat had that guy from God of War in it, even Freddy Kruger was there, if I’m not entirely wrong. As long as it’s done properly I don’t mind, but again, this thread is suppossed to be a fun thread.

Someone played too much Batman it seems…

I’ve also got an idea:

Oppressor merc - a winged bastard who throws violators

I know you’re a big fan of the art and style of the game Frost, so I knew this thread was a bit tongue in cheek

One way to periodically allow really crazy stuff in the game without killing its style forever could be to have themed events once in a while. Halloween is the obvious one, but other events could be highlighted as well. For instance:

[ul]
[li]Summer Heat Wave (mercs in shorts, t-shirts, beachwear and flip-flops, water guns and water balloon nades)[/li][li]SD Anniversaries and Launches (Allies vs Nazis, GDF vs Stoggs, RAD Soldiers, Batman and Co, etc…)[/li][/ul]
Of course the trick there would be to balance the cost of these limited-use skins vs the duration of these events (which of course could be recurring from year to year). Or to strech the value you could also throw in something like a monthly madness weekend where anything goes
