Build your own set of mercs

(.FROST.) #21
I know you’re a big fan of the art and style of the game Frost, so I knew this thread was a bit tongue in cheek

One way to periodically allow really crazy stuff in the game without killing its style forever could be to have themed events once in a while. Halloween is the obvious one, but other events could be highlighted as well. For instance:

[ul]
[li]Summer Heat Wave (mercs in shorts, t-shirts, beachwear and flip-flops, water guns and water balloon nades)[/li][li]SD Anniversaries and Launches (Allies vs Nazis, GDF vs Stoggs, RAD Soldiers, Batman and Co, etc…)[/li][/ul]
Of course the trick there would be to balance the cost of these limited-use skins vs the duration of these events (which of course could be recurring from year to year). Or to strech the value you could also throw in something like a monthly madness weekend where anything goes :D
Sounds like Killing Floor* to me:wink:. The event trailers were just hillarious. Actually stored them. Must’ve watched Hillbilly Horror at least 20 times. Also loled my butt off with KF’s Summer Sideshow trailer.

Hillbilly Horror

Summer SIdeshow

*never played the game, even though I’m a Zombie nut, because I’m just not into coop. Coop Campaign, maybe, but not on a regular basis. Allways thought I should try it though, only heard good things of the game.
Chuck Norris - Soldier

Arnold Swarchenegger - Field Ops

Sylvester Stallone - Medic

Bradley Cooper - Sniper

Macgyver - Engineer
Three from The Expendables, why not make it a Full House and replace the sniper with Liam Hemsworth(not a very big name, had to google it) and Richard Dean Anderson with Statham, as engineer.

Macgyver was funny, almost forgot about him. He should also be a living, breathing meme, like Chuck Norris. There’s no problem on earth he couldn’t solve with a stripe of chewing gum paper, a chewing gum and a wall where he can scratch funny chemicals off. Norris on the other hand only needed his roundhous kicks to get there and beyond. Maybe that’s why he is more “popular”

I like a coherent art style.

So do we, but some people like the over the top silly stuff and I don’t mind giving it to them once in a while if it means they’ll stick around and fill the servers the rest of the year

Better that then making global concessions we would have to endure all the time…

Actually I didn’t. I never played a (super-)hero game, ever. Though I have to admit, that the last couple Bat games lead me into considering to buy one of them. B:AO will be the first one I’ll actually buy.

PS: I’m a comic fan especially for one reason, and it’s not the stories, nor is it the characters; it’s simply that, imo, the worlds best pencillers, painters and illustrators worked in this fieldB. BUT that was only true 15-20 years ago, when I was looking for artistic role models, and digital art and computergames weren’t as visually stunning, as they are now. Sure they already looked great at times, but it’ wasn’t remotely compareable with today’s Photoshop-Wacom-Maya-zBrush-concept-and-what-not world of digital art.

So with every year to come I get slightly more drawn from comics, in the direction of videogames; wich is kinda sad when I think about it, but videogames have reached such a incredible high level of visual fidelity that just can’t be ignored. And why should it? It’s only that I kind of have the feeling, as if I’m contributing to the dying out of something, that was, for a very long time, the most important thing in my life. But then again; people still go in theatres even though the could see every crappy movie in full motion 3D cineplex monsters, if they so desire. And comics are basically the oldest language and artform in human history; maybe we can squeeze a couple more years outta this great medium. The print comic on the other hand will most certainly completely vanish over the next 10-20 years, wich is something I’m really not looking forward to. Maybe we’ll get digital paperB by then, that’d something I may could live with.

B and it was a medium I could afford, instead of something out of a gallery, that’d have cost me more than all the comics I bought in my life combined; probably even more, than I’d earn in my entire life.

B not like the Kindle, but like a real book, yet with changing content

Or we could all just go and play Team Fortress 2 instead?

Don’t think that having funny mercs is a problem but please don’t make it this giant part of the game. It should be the game itself attracting people, not the ridiculousness of skins and stuff like that.

On a serious note though… custom skins is a way for SD to make money. People won’t play just for custom skins lol…

(stealth6) #38

I think you’d be surprised. Some people I know basically sit on trade servers 24/7 just trying to collect everything.
