[BUGS] Quick Run Down of 1.02

Noticed a few threads being started about different bugs and problems people have came acrros since either day of release or just recently. Cant be arsed searching for an older BUG post if there is one… so instead i’ll start one of. Please tho, this is for etmain, not Shrub or ETPro.

i. Heavy Weapons Level 4 Weaponslot when Panzering with SMG. They both share 3 instead of SMG dropping to slot 2.

ii. Autoaction/Activate. Failing randomly to pickup Ammo/Health.

iii. Clicking you out of a revive after you type in a chat box.

iiii. Eg, When say I am Soldier/Panzer. It seems if someone joins my team as Soldier even if I am ALIVE when I die n’respawn I’ll lose Panzer to SMG. Is it cause I am dead there able to choose Panzer as it isnt shown as ‘full/scored out’?

v. When +stats are up no matter what key I have it bound too, if another stats, scorebored, esc menu, console is brought up it just freezes ET but the sound still goes on… only way out for me is to hit Windows Key, Alt-Tab to Task Manager and End ET.exe.

iv. Priming a grenade then going prone it automatically just drops it/throws it slightly in front of the player. Can’t it just be made so you can actually keep it primed and use it as normal? Numerous times on the run or hiding and I grenkill meself cause of it. :]

A few off the ‘top of my head’ thats kinda small annoyances… most of these are fixed in ETPro i’ve found but I dislike ETPro for the single and upmost fact of the /kill ‘special’ bar keeper. I’d rather play ETMain with the bugs and hitboxes (Yes! I swear no matter how many times you hit someones helmet off and rattle there face point blank with an SMG they still dont die as quick as in ETMain and it doesnt pick it up as headshots in the Stats. Not even 1. Anyone else?

Another small query is that lsr. were playing a clan which i’ll leave to remain nameless for now on there home server but it seemed impossible to kill them with any explosives. Is there some sort of command, even if it isn’t team specific that allows extra protection against them? And yes, before anyone says, it was a CB or Sav game iirc and I know for a fact that Medics, Fops, Soldiers etc DO NOT GET ENGYS PROTECTION. Plus, they wouldnt have had the XP anyways. I have a demo from this game which shows at least 3/4 direct panzer shots and a couple of Engy Rifle grens which proceed to just ‘bounce’ the player across the map. Even after which a couple of shots from a Pistol/Rifle should kill a player due to the gren/panzer impact but it wouldnt. Strange im telling you.

The only other possible bug I’d add to that lot which I’ve noticed on ETMain servers recently, is that sometimes, suddenly, without touching my mouse, I’ll be staring straight up at the sky or straight down at the ground. I thought it was my mouse at first until several other people on the same server started complaining of the same thing.

I’ve also experienced the random Class switching, but for me it seems to switch me to a previous Class. For example, I’m a Med at the start of a game, and later on I switch to Field-Op. I die and re-spawn and suddenly I’m a Med again. This seems to happen at later stages, possibly when I hit LVL4.

PS: I know I shouldn’t say it, but ETPro does fix nearly all these. I find it a real pain going back onto ETMain servers so tend to restrict myself to ETPro now, to the extent that I filter out all non-ETPro servers in ASE. ETPro’s “sticky-charge” is one of it’s better features, it stops /kill abuse dead in it’s tracks (mostly).

Its a better feature if spam isnt ur main tactic. :> I’d play only half as decent on maps like FuelDump/Battery if it werent for the unsticky-charge bar in ETMain if I may. Because I play Panzer/Fops the charge bar is esp usefull if I can refill quickly and efficiently, even if it means dropping position for a few seconds. And, with say Fops, its harder to do both my jobs with one bar :slight_smile: I give out ammo and its gone for a while, I arty an entrance, I get whinged at for not giving out ammo. With /kill I can spawn, Spam, few ammos out with whats left, /kill, dropammo, arty etc… Ill try never to /kill to deny a kill. If someones going to kill me then they deserve it :slight_smile: - only time i’ll ever do it is if im caught in say Riflegrenning/Panzer crossfire… would rather kill than let some noob spawn Panzerer get some XP cheaply.

And yeh I know what you mean about the class switching. Happens most with Fops/Medic/Cov for me. Never had it occur as Soldier/Engy.

And as for the mouse thing. I used to think it was just my mouse (MS Cordless thingy) but yeh, turns out a few people have it, dunno how it occurs and ive never had it in Q3/RTCW for some reason… been callvoted kicked from a server before cos I was getting specced (PB was Enabled btw) then it just randomly flicked to one side then down. Peeps said it was ‘having trouble locking on’ then I got voted off. :]

The mouse thingy us a regular prob indeed, I was once on a server where it ocurred every 15 seconds, for every player. Someone was complaining about it, and then everybody said, Hey! I have that prob too! I too first thought it was my optical mouse, but I now know its an ET bug.

O and another bug (isnt fixed by etpro, because then a clientupdate is needed, and that is too much problem for a not so important bug), is that the akimbo pistols are gone after you go to the next map, you have to reselect them :).

another Bug: after reaching Lv4 LightWeapon (I think) I always start as spectator at the beginning of a new map, this is especially annoying if the server uses balanced teams and I can’t rejoin my team because others have already filled up the slots.

possible bug: I don’t know whether it’s my mouse (MS IntelliMouse Explorer) but sometimes my mouse stops working for a second or two, I’m still able to run around but can’t look around anymore. This mostly happens when I’m involved in a close quarter firefight with lots of hectically mouse movement… and than all of a sudden nothing :frowning: Naturally I don’t survive this for very long :wink: Doesn’t happen very often.

If I’m prone and crawl agains an obstacle I immediately stand up (and usually attract a murderous crossfire). This often happens as engineer, trying to crawl as close to the construction boxes as possible.

Panzerfaust: sometimes after fireing a PF if I immediately start to run away and the empty PF slot wont switch to the pistol while I’m runnig around (slowly!) with an empty PF. Than it can take 4 secs or longer until the weapon change animation finally starts and I get my pistol.

I’ve only seen the mouse issue on one server, and everyone had it. If you reconnected it didn’t become better. The next day I connected to it, it had disappeared. Don’t know if it was becurse the bug was temporary, if the server administrators restarted the server, or if it was becurse of lag.

That have happend atleast once to me in Enemy Territory(mouse logitech mx500). Was a while since latest time, so I don’t know exactly how many times. But when I play Unreal Tournament it is very freqvent appearing, mostly I look too fast to the left/right.

Well its not down to Lag afaik. If anything, and like a few other bugs (Not picking up items etc…) it’ll probably be a case of just restarting the server. Most bugs in loads of games occour especially if a server has been running either flat out for short periods of time or just running for a while. I remeber playing Q3F and it got to the stage where if a server was up for a good bit then ammo/health wasnt being displayed, things that were spinning werent spinning anymore, rockets and grens were being fired but not able to be seen. :slight_smile:

Wasn’t the Campaign server in my sig by any chance, was it? (195.149.21.152:27961 <- 10v10 Campaign) Cos that’s the only non-ETPro server I play on and therefore the only server I experience this problem on.

If it wasn’t, do you know if the server in question runs on Linux or Windows? (the Campaign server in my sig runs on Windows).

No, I’m quite sure it was Bredbandsbolaget ET#1 (EFTERLYST). Not 100% through. According to what I understand from the All-Seeing Eye, it runs Linux and ETPro.

Good server, strong players [Efter]. If anyone can get a decent ping (need every help you can get at times) i’d advise a few nights practice here. Probably one of the most popular .eu servers of the strongest .eu players at times.

Happens to me too on my logitech mx700. I’m pretty sure it’s the mouse.

I had a reproducible mouse-sometimes-not-responding problem with my MX700 combined with an MS Internet Keyboard Pro. The problem only occured on certain (graphically intensive) parts of the map and when keys were pressed on the keyboard. It turned out that the MS Intellitype 4.1 drivers were the cause. Uninstalling the Intellitype drivers fixed the problem.

The “view sometimes shifts to straight up or down” problem is usually caused by excessive packet loss between the server and client. Check the lower lagometer graph for red spikes. Use a tool like Pingplotter to gauge the quality of the network path (i.e. the packet loss rate) between you and the server.

I have the lagometer permanently on screen, and do suffer from red spikes occasionally, even on servers I know to be good (like my Clan’s server, the box running ET is the same one we ran RTCW on and it was one of the best servers I ever played on).

How would I improve my network connection if I am suffering from packet loss? I currently use these connection settings and I’m on 600k Cable:-

seta cl_packetdup “0”
seta cl_timenudge “0”
seta rate “25000”
seta snaps “40”
seta net_noipx “1”
seta net_noudp “0”

If you are gettting red spikes, you are getting some PL. I would turn packetdup on, since you have plenty of download. On the internet, packets get lost.

cl_maxpackets 86 might be a bit much if your upload is only 128. In any case, it should supposedly be an even divisor of your com_maxfps. If your maxfps is 76, try maxpackets 76 or 38.

snaps 40 is pointless, since all sane ET servers only run at 20 FPS, so use snaps 20.

If turning packetdup on doesn’t fix it, start looking at your connection with ping/tracert etc and figure out where they are getting dropped. Don’t overlook the obvious stuff, like a bad network cable …

I use cl_maxpackets 86 as fps is capped at 43 (and I read somewhere it should be equal to, or a multiple of, maxpackets). I guess I could set maxpackets to 43 as well in that case?

I’ll try enabling packetdup and reducing snaps, see if that helps.

Don’t forget the acc from your mg gun (tank, mobile, not the screw served). The acc from the mobile mg or the one from the tank isnt calculated. This means that you always have zero acc but eg 30 kills.
Also, with the tank mg, if it is overhead, it only cools down when you are on the mg.

If im a medic and i aquire the akimbo pistols,next spawn i end up being a soldier with smg :frowning:
