Bug(?) or annoyance with med packs

(Nothus) #1

The distance that the med packs are launched from a med are a BIG annoyance - they are launched too close, then the game does its check of the med pack entity, sees that its touching the meds BBOX, then gives it to the med.

If your under health, 9 times out of 10, YOU (the med giving health) will be the one getting them, and not the guy your trying to help.

I’ve had to bind a toggle for “cg_autoactivate” just so that I can give health without having to worry about grabbing it first.

PLEASE fix this!

We know.

You just have to get into the habbit of “arcing” the toss. Look up a little bit before you toss, or if you are moving around, toss behind you.

I got used to it and it hardly seems an annoyance anymore.

Also don’t try to shove it in your teammates face. Throwing a pack while a player directly in front of you will cause the pack to go to you first if you are low on heath. Aim to the side and dish your goods that way.

Allow the medics to launch them like mortar shells.

Or secondary fire attatches a rocket to the back of them, allowing you to fire them across the field of combat, or directly into someones face at point blank range.

Wow, way to hijack my thread.

Anyhow, I’m trying to point out to SD what would be just one line of code to fix on the server, and is a serious annoyance to anyone who actually plays med for more than one minute.

The overarcing doesn’t work that well, its too “iffy”, making it behave like it did in RTCW would be the better solution.

In the up coming Shrub mod - now testing on some servers - there will be a server side setting to adjust the throw distance of Med and Ammo packs:

Medic and Ammo Pack Distance

g_packDistance (1) will scale the the distance at which ammo and health packs are thrown. A setting of around 2 or so will make it easier for players to give ammo/health to other players standing nearby instead of inadvertedly giving them to oneself.

taking one step back while u are giving the pack also helps, luckily so they dont think u are holding back there is a no more left animation when the medic shakes his hands so they dont think u are some noob!
