So the game have 5 sec respawn? i mean in all shooters u can be killed and get full respawn timer - 30 seconds, and its normal , u spent time talking to teammates , helping them. How can u help if u dont see anything.

About scouting - its not a new class “operative”, why he be better then infiltrator and coverd ops? Snipers mostly a solo players, in many games ( etqw radar was awsome btw, good idea )
From my experience the majority of people don’t talk when dead or even engage with the game. This seems to be my experience with the majority of pub players anyway. Even if you are active and try to help most people don’t even listen even though the intel is useful etc.

In TAW we use the latest version of the Tactical assualt mod. One of its latest features is the ability to make it so that the screen goes completely black when a player is gibbed. We found this increased the amount of gibbing and also increaed the amount of comms when people we’re alive.

My issues isn’t with not being able to see anything when dead because when your dea you have a very small effect on the game. I would much rather be able to see 100% when alive i.e. my concerns about blood splatter/vision bluring when losing health.

More PAX footage please =D

The lack of Brink video’s is killing me. Why do you remove the gamevids of the websites. Don’t you want people to get excited about your game or not?

Most game related news I see is about the new Duke Nukem Forever. And I can find almost a hundred home video’s about this game and don’t get deleted. I get the feeling like Brink is a forgotten game on PAX.

While your dev video’s are good and fun to watch… But I want to see some action how the public is playing the game. This will give a better look at how the game is played and what to aspect and look forward to. This could also lead to new news and fresh discussions for the community.

Its called “get the hype to grow” mate

I also dislike it, but its bethesda’s work here, looking at fallout the do kind of a good job selling their games… Sadly its not the way we like it cuz ya know, we want to see shooting and moving and xhair and actual footage.

Peace

I would prefer there was no lifebar at all, but that must be for the competitive community who needs to know just exactly how many more hits they can risk. Otherwise, no need to be redundant. Get rid of the lifebar altogether.

BTW, I like the idea of black and white desaturation, and the reason you are going that route. Excellent!

I can’t stand games with no lifebar (BC2 where you can see your team mates healthbar but not your own for example), the full screen notification is icing on the cake, not a replacement.

(Seyu) #67

Okay, I’m a bit confused, will the opposite team’s players’ health bars be visible?

(potkettleblack) #68

yes

(Exedore) #69

This was considered, but with all possible Medic buffs and Command Post buffs on top of differing health for bodytype, we decided we should leave the meter there for those who look for the information.

I need no reminder that the Duke is stealing our thunder, but after all that game has been through…

(tokamak) #70

The problem I have with health bars is that they don’t just supply information, they also assist with aiming. I think this game needs more ambiguous cues on the status of the player.

(Exedore) #71

I’m only referring to the life meter of the player in the top left.

(tokamak) #72

Oh right, I didn’t even notice that one. If it’s handled in that way, then that’s fine, such information doesn’t take the (spatial) depth out of a game. Though, what is that yellow bar near the target player? Or is that a friendly?

(potkettleblack) #73

The yellow bar is the enemy’s health.

(Seyu) #74

It could be a perk that allows you to view the enemies health, eh? fingers crossed

(tokamak) #75

Now I’m either confused or disappointed.

(Voxie) #76

As long as we don’t have arrows/auras/life meters that are always visible on all enemies, I’m happy.

By the same token, I hope that the red outlines on enemies will get scraped before the game goes gold. Simply having HUD elements next to all allies combined with making the crosshair red and showing a healthbar while damaging/aiming directly at enemies would be my preferred substitute.
The important thing is that the opposing team isn’t covered in shaders ruining the entire colour palette and look of half the server population – especially given that one of Brink’s major selling points is its deep character customization.

(tokamak) #77

Different platforms need to be treated differently. I can see the use of red outlines for consoles, where you aren’t pressing your nose up a high resolution screen, but for PC’s it’s not done.

All in all I hope the red outlines are coming from interrogation.

(BioSnark) #78

Didn’t everyone used to be worried about the sides looking similar? That was the trend at one point and now it’s complaining about the solution. You just can’t win. Also, definitely keep enemy health bars and not as some damn perk. Lack of health enemy health bars in games that have players with dramatically different max hitpoints (points at tf2 classes) are annoying as hell.

(tokamak) #79

My stance is that, while understanding how complex it might be, the information concerning enemies should come from the models and not from the hud. Team Fortress did this beautifully.

(INF3RN0) #80

Man, green arrows on friendlies is just like soooo simple. Anything without an arrow is a baddie and no need for ugly outlines/etc, feel free to shoot em in the face plz.
