Brink vs Lost

(.FROST.) #1

Aside from being an island, they both have obscure organisations(Dharma, Founders) running the show in the background. Both organisations wanted to build an utopia in the first place. And both have a submarine. In both they(Sec+Res, Survivors+Dharma) are allways an inch away from achieving something. And the bad guys aren’t so bad and the good guys aren’t so good in the end. And in both settings multiculturalism is a essential part. Plus, people can’t or must not leave the Island. The location of both islands is secret. Both have labs and prisons. In lost women can’t give birth anymore and in Brink the Arkoral is starting to become sterile. Both very important for an ongoing life on each island. In Brink the Resistance blows up the reactor(or not, depending on the campaign) and in Lost the survivors, wich can be seen as the resistance, ignite an A-Bomb. And there are more similarities.

Maybe our Brinkies are also allready dead. But instead of reuniting with their loved ones in a crappy happy ending, they will gun-wrestle till eternity. And they’ll free the hostage, escort Nechayev or blow the gate forever. Again, again and again. Without knowing it of course.

Yes, I too have drawn parallels to Lost. How can you not? Lost was awesome. Nothing else will fill the void left by Lost. At least we have Brink to play.

(nephandys) #3

I agree there are a lot of similarities and a lot of potential/possibilities due to that. However, in Lost no one was dead on the island/from the plane crash. The plane crashed on the island and everything that happened was real. As they died on the island they reunited in the afterlife/flash sideways. So that idea of the Brink people dead on the island living in the afterlife wouldn’t work for me as a comparison.

(.FROST.) #4

No, it wasnt meant as a comparison. Hence the paragraph. And I’m not a fan of “everything was a dream”, or “everybody is allready dead” endings either. It was more meant like a little joke since I blew up that freakin gate maybe a hundred times and may have escortet the hostage equally often. With no other purpose than doing it again.

PS: Many guys and gals in Lost wich definitely!!! haven’t died met with people wich have definitely died. But that is a very confusing and frustrating other story. Best series ever. Crappiest ending ever. :(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:frowning:

lol I was thinking about playing CC over and over again and that would explain why I continue to have to keep blowing up that door.

Going slightly more into Lost, I think if you watch the series from start to finish it’s pretty hard to come up with another explanation. Too bad the story line with Walt and the children didn’t work out as originally planned due to Walt growing up too fast. I’ll always wonder where that would have gone.

(wolfnemesis75) #6

Yes. We could certainly be fighting a battle in the past when the Ark first went to hell, and haven’t yet reunited in the afterlife. Hence the repetition of planting the HE charge over and over. To quote Andre Linoge: Hell is REPETITION

I’m a father myself and this Walter-thing made me crazy(really spoiled me). I can totally understand Michael. I was so angry about those Dharma pricks and I wanted so badly to slap them point blank in the face and go on from there. Maybe I’m too emotional, but I wanted to beat the living crap outta those mofos.

They all went to purgatory as they died. That’s why people who didn’t die on the show are there. They all stayed in that purgatory area (the flash sideways show their lives while they’re there) until everyone had died so they could move on together as a group.

That’s why Micheal isn’t there, because in the final few episodes he says to someone he has to roam the island as the whisperers now as he did some bad things in his life (or something like that). There’s also a reason why one of the characters I can’t remember isn’t present that was stated in the episodes/hinted at by the way they talked, but I can’t remember who off the top of my head.

Personally I felt the ending was fitting, but too many people didn’t grasp the fact it wasn’t “it was all a dream” or “they were all dead along.” It was amazing how many reporters missed that even though Jack’s dad specifically said everything they did was real and they weren’t dead until they actually died in their real lives.

I was glad to see the series start and end with Jack and Vincent, though. That was a nice touch and I’m glad they did it.

Uhm Desmond was in the church and so was his girlfriend wich wasn’t even on the plane or the island.

But the Jake and Vincent scene was good. Definitely fitted. Maybe its time to buy that monster collection thing and review the whole series. It was an awesome time. Almost a life-changing experience.

Ah, my bad, it wasn’t Desmond that wasn’t there, it was someone else. I just can’t remember the name off the top of my head, but it was like one of the characters like Mr. Eko who was just a recurring character for most of the series. Although Mr. Eko not being present is due totally to the fact he wanted so much money to appear again, haha.

(Dormamu) #11

Thank God we don’t have Kate on The Ark, cos i will quit in an instant after a Kate episode.

(.FROST.) #12

Eko was nice in the first few episodes, but his storyline became somehow boring. I don’t know. Even Dr.Arzt was more interesting than him.

Side note “Arzt” means doctor in german, so this guy’s name was actually Doctor Doctor. Poor guy shouldn’t have played with centuries old explosives. RIP bro.

(Thundermuffin) #13

Yeah Eko was kind of boring, but I liked the idea of his character.

I’m glad to see Micheal Emerson get a new show, though (Person of Interest). He was my favorite actor on the show besides Terry O’Quinn and Dominic Monaghan.

(wolfnemesis75) #14

My friend grew up with the actor who played Mr. Eko. He refused to participate in any further episodes after an incident in Hawaii and did not want to do the show anymore. He was gonna be a pivotal character too and was and still is one of my all time favorites besides Desmond and Sawyer. Hated Kate. Worthless character besides for cute bottom and looks.

(.FROST.) #15

Desmond was priceless. And he could also play deep emotions very touching. Sawyer allways keept pushing things to the brink and caused most of the survivors problems with this beahavior. He never really cooled down. You could never be sure about this guy. His presence was allways kind of a background noise wich caused a somehow uneasy feeling within the viewer.

(wolfnemesis75) #16

Some of my all-time favorite moments involved Desmond, and loved his line, “See ya in another life, Brother!”

(Thundermuffin) #17

He left the show for personal reasons, yes (Lostpedia & other sites say something about his parents, wanting to go back to London and just overall disliking Hawaii), but they asked him to come back for the finale + reunion show and he wanted around 5x more than any of the other actors to come back. That’s kind of dumb of him, don’t you think? They all probably got paid extremely well and LOST probably helped his career tremendously.

(wolfnemesis75) #18

My friend grew up with him and talks to him regularly. We know exactly why he left. I said that already. He was doing G.I Joe and a personal project he’s been trying to launch, when they were working on Lost finale stuff.

(.FROST.) #19

Brink and Lost have also something in common in real-life. The one wanted to change the genre(maybe will, we’ll see), the other one almost did, but in the end both couldn’t really live up to the hype. Whilst the other one sucked exactly at the end, the other one sucked(past tense!) at the release. And thats where the differences come in. The one was extremely character driven, whilst the other one is, if anything, story driven.

(Thundermuffin) #20

Did you even read my post? I freaking agreed with you that he left for personal reasons (I just stated what they were for people wondering as lots of people didn’t follow the show that in depth and wondered why he was suddenly killed off), but you never mentioned he wanted a crap ton of money to come back for the finale + reunion show. He was not just too busy as you imply, because every news site reported that he just wanted so much money to do it. He was willing to come back, they just had to pay him better than Matthew Fox which wasn’t going to happen.

By the way, no one takes your “my friend” stuff seriously; you may be telling the truth, but that’s something that has no meaning and people just laugh in their heads as they read it.

EDIT: @Frost I wouldn’t call LOST’s ending sucky, it just didn’t really hit a lot of people if they didn’t understand it. I really liked the ending, as there wasn’t really much else to do with the story of Jack unless you wanted to watch him bleed out for another 3 episodes.
