Brink to Appear at E3 2010

(Nail) #101

On the Bethesda forums, people seem more worried about hats and hairstyles available than not having dedicated servers, it’s beyond belief to me, that’s one of the main reasons I have no use for consoles

(AnthonyDa) #102

It’s still better than the anti-Steam horde around here …

(Nail) #103

I found the two different forums hilight the difference between what PC gamers and console gamers consider important

(H0RSE) #104

perhaps a reason why console players don’t put such a high emphasis on dedi servers is because they aren’t used to having them. Only a couple games on console support them, so the attitude towards them is kinda like - if they have them, great. If not, oh well - whereas on the PC, dedi servers are expected, and not having them would create an uproar.

(signofzeta) #105

we aren’t anti-steam. We are anti-steamtakingovertheworld.

Exactly, the average console gamer might not even know what a dedicated server is - mw2 didnt have dedi servers and broke every sales record possible so it cannot mean that much.

The only thing that concerns me (with the consoles) is the controller layout, you get used to cod controls then battlefield uses a different layout and your pressing the wrong button all the time :frowning: I read somewhere though that brink will use the cod controls where possible

That’s not entirely true, many COD players notice something is off without pinpointing it to the lack of dedicated servers. They see it as just ‘something in the game’. They also incorporate it in the tactics (which means that you never, ever rush behind a corner or you’re dead).

(Blowfish) #109

The things I hear about COD is, “where are the dedicated servr !!?”. Then people tell me they wont buy new COD version because of it. We ll see what happens with COD Blackops, but I put my money on Brink to take over the world

And also with BC2 a lot of negative responses I have seen… dedicated servers…sure at fixed game hosters :(.

(Reanimator) #110

TF2 despite being a port to consoles did a good job for button mapping, what I hope from Splash Damage is that they make it possible for the player to map the buttons however they please while already having a few presets for those who want to only tweak what the developers already have.

I heard that COD controls will be a default layout, but they are going for fully mappable controls.

(Stroggafier) #112

Top-end PC with console-like controls - best of both worlds.

(Nail) #113

best of both worlds would be consoles with dedicated servers, imo

(LyndonL) #114

Console controls are the “best” of consoles?? …

(Voxie) #115

I’d be hard-pressed to think of anything consoles does better than PC’s except for lower initial investment, less knowledge about the platform and technology in general required, most features (for better or worse) being streamlined and centralized and of course hassle free setups. On PC’s, you can use most any input device imaginable, so the use of gamepads is hardly a strong point for consoles.

But I digress… Looking forward to E3; can’t wait to see what the game will look like at this stage and what public reception will be. One more week!

(otakustar) #116

rumors are they’ll only show the linux-version with ps3-controllers
:infiltrator:

“red cross” thread and this one are the most discussed for days now, SD give us something!

(Sorry for the OT)

LOL.

You know what I’d like to hear about? What the marketing plan–i.e. How much do they plan to spend marketing the game, what outlets are they targeting, what games are they going to take on, etc…

There’s some great info and interviews out there, but not much on the bigger sites. The game looks and sounds great so far and it really needs to get out there, and info needs to become more prominent and available for the gaming population that doesn’t post on forums or search google news everyday for new bit of info (i.e. - They need to market for people other than me  )

(Voxie) #119

Expect Brink to get much more exposure from E3 and forward. No need to ramp up the marketing campaign before the game is close to release. But, yeah, it will be interesting to see how they choose to market it. The competition is insanely high this autumn with Medal of Honor, Call of Duty: Black Ops, Halo: Reach, Crysis 2 and FEAR 3, so here’s hoping they will be able to make their game stand out from all the others.

(coolstory) #120

It will. I mean cod ugh what a stupid game. And halo is just xbawx, so it doesnt matter for pc players.
