Brink to Appear at E3 2010

Just because we’re partial to the game doesn’t mean that the typical gaming will invest in Brink as opposed to the next CoD or MoH. I was questioning whether or not Brink will be a commercial success when it’s a new IP put against a wealth of established shooters franchises.

I’d say the complete opposite.

Single consistent hardware platform (console) and responsive controls (M+KB or Trackball+Controller).

Interested if SD has plans to patch in Move/Natal controls if the game proves popular? I’d expect we’d hear something on this at E3, would be quite a coup.

It has a good chance. While COD is undoubtedly a juggernaut in sales, the Treyarch titles have never done as well as IW’s iterations, and with the whole IW vs Activision scandal, it possibly won’t have the legs it used to. Halo will always attract the die hard fan, but personally I think it’s days have passed, and ODST was a testament to it’s waining mainstream popularity. MOH looks interesting, but is it really going to pull in the buyers? The last MOH was definitely a “meh” and a paint job might not be enough to resurrect the franchise.

Also, Brink might gain some points from a slightly earlier launch. if they can hit the speculated September date. Borderlands managed to garner a pretty strong launch just because they released in a lull.

But, yeah. A strong E3 showing is more important right now than advertising. I mean, Rockstar held back on Red Dead Redemption until a couple months before release, and look how well that did, against the speculation that western games always fail!

Can’t wait for shaky aiming?

I’m all for the innovation I just wish developers could implement it in a better way. The whole duplicate an analogue screen scroll thing is as, if not more, terrible as using a controller. The solution is simple but I’ve yet to see/hear that it is being used.

So no, I don’t want BAD controller innovation but I’d love someone to take it beyond what we’ve had with M+KB or Controllers already.

BTW - I agree with your other post, Halo aside there isn’t much coming at the end of the year that has the ability to totally eclipse some adequate marketing.

Nintendo did a passable job with that last Metroid game, but you’re absolutely right. I think the devs need to think more out of the box when it comes to things like Move and Natal instead of trying to shoehorn old control schemes with new devices.

This thread seems to have a knack for derailing. If you want to discuss something else, please post a new thread - no harm will come to you and it’s completely free. As for the latest tangent escapade, I’ve moved it to its own little estate at http://www.splashdamage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21336.

Please keep this thread about Brink’s upcoming E3 appearance.
