BRINK suggestions forum

I totally agree, :armadillochase:

(H0RSE) #862

but there still has to be explosives for blowing stuff up

Why does there have to be this? Isn’t this where the soldier’s explosive charge would come in?

(Nail) #863

you just answered your own question
Are there actually smoke grenades in Brink? As I heard there were 24 weapons
Answer here:
Actually, I’m hoping to find ways to reward the proper use of even something like a smoke grenade, though it is tough. I’m wanting to try a thing where we check for line of sight between enemies and teammates, and in cases where the smoke grenade has actually blocked said LOS, reward teh thrower a little. Not sure if that will work, but worth a try.

I wouldn’t count the soldiers charge as weapon category…

(Nail) #866

but, I would

(H0RSE) #867

but why? only the soldier can use them…all the other weapons are usable by all players. Might as well count the Engineer’s turrets as weapons also…

(WhiteAden) #868

a soldier’s HE charge can be used to silently disable and kill an enemy vehicle, (e.g. the quick plant on the Cyclops after losing the generator on Quarry or on the titan on outskirts)

so yes, it can be seen as a weapon…

But it is a class specific item…when they are talking about 24 weapons, I think they mean weapons accessible to everyone, regardless of class. If you are counting anything that can cause damage, better add turrets and landmines on the list as well. The HE charge is not a weapon…it is a class specific item and/or ability that happens to cause damage.

I am pretty sure when they are talking about weapons, they mean weapons available to any player, any time, regardless of class, with the only ‘limiting factor’ being body type.

(Exedore) #870

Grenades and HE Charges do not count towards the number given.

(brbrbr) #871

smoke for GL ?
incendary hand nades ?
roof-striking AT/AH hornet-alike mines[WAM]?
multimode vehicle guns ?
more varieties of personal mobility vehicles ?[huskies, icarus, … what ?]
intel-gatering equipment?
varying armour caps?

Not in brink, seeing as you can only plant them in predetermined spots and all, defensive HE/plasma charges were ace in ET:QW but I guess it was an exploit to use them on anything other than objectives…

(tokamak) #873

Who says you can only plant them in predetermined spots? And even if so, who says there aren’t good alternatives to the mission-explosives?

(.Chris.) #874
I will concede that it does limit variation in some respects, but there are so many other divergent elements in the game’s design that ultimately I don’t believe it hinders the gameplay much if at all. Remember that you all are still seeing only part of the overall picture at this stage… we play the game a lot, and it works. As ever, the proof will be in the pudding when the game is on the shelves.

It’s interesting that nobody has mentioned the biggest ‘pro’ of the limited plant locations, and that’s that it requires teamwork. In Brink it’s very difficult to solo primary objectives, and that’s completely intentional.
limited plant locations seems pretty predetermined to me.

(tokamak) #875

Yeah that’s for objectives!

(.Chris.) #876

Afaik they have special animations for arming the charges which is one of reasons for the limited locations on objectives which to me suggests you wont be able to plant them elsewhere, as you say they may have alternative ‘weapon’ similar to satchel charge or something I dunno.

(tokamak) #877

Well if you like the defensive HE charge, which I think is totally awesome as well because it offers a psychological obstacle to attackers -The red blinking light itself is enough to throw an attacker out of focus for the half a second it takes you to nail a few head shots on him- then I think it would be best to posit that as a separate suggestion aside from the objective mechanic.

(Nail) #878

all weapons are not available to everyone, only the heavies

(brbrbr) #879

i guess heavies should not take some “to light” weaponry, such as pistols or basic knife[instead default machete?] and etc and etc.
like big peoples[like me]unable to [well]use tiny cellphones , for example

(tokamak) #880

What would be the harm in letting heavy guys take light weapons? It’s not the light weapons that make the small body types stronger, it’s their agility and speed.
