BRINK suggestions forum

(maggol) #1

This topic i dedicated for discussion about what do you want to see in BRINK, you can suggest anything you want as long it didn’t harm the forum rules. Feel free to suggest anything.

For the dev, i hope this forum can give some information about what player want or can give ideas to make the game more advanced than any FPS game in the market.

Start from me, I want to see:

[ul]
[li]A random level generator like L4D2, something that will generate world object when loading a level
[/li][li]A map editor, something that like Halo 3 or Far cry 2 to make map making more easier. If you want to get more advanced you can use the SDK
[/li][li]An in-game movie editor that can save your game and replay it from different angles
[/li][/ul]

I think it’s enough from me, now i want to read what your response and your suggestion.

cake fight. it doesn’t have to be killing all the time. although as there are some on the screens, i’d like to shoot the seagulls.

(Pytox) #3

seagulls should be in

(maggol) #4

Hey, get serious, people. If you want to chat off-topic, post it on off-topic section. This forum is dedicated to discuss what features that you want to see in the game, i mean the serious thing.

(shibbyuk) #5

Hey, we want the game to be advanced don’t we? To me, the ability to lure seagulls with chips then shoot them is an advanced and important feature.

Another feature I’d like to see is multi-monitor support (so long as this doesn’t give unfair advantages - I don’t think it gives any more of an advantage than, say, a multi-button mouse or a fast internet connection).

(Joe999) #6

i am dead serious. i want cake fight. this hasn’t been in any game so far. also, the cakes should stick on the players once you hit them.

also i want to fight against hordes in coop. not only against 8 other players.

(maggol) #7

Ok, so your suggestion is a cake fight mode and horde-mode like in gears of war 2?

(Joe999) #8

well, whatever mode. cake fight is just one of them. it’s eg for warmup when there’s a low player number on the server. take eg one server which needs to fill up to at least 6 people (my sweet spot when games are starting to become good). until the server fills up, the people could play a mod (eg defend a base) against bots, lots of bots. or have fun with something that’s not so in the regular gameplay, like cake fight. or shooting seagulls and have a competition doing so.

(maggol) #9

Hmm, i see. Isn’t that will make player confuse? For example, when warm up the player is in what you call as whatever mode (shooting seagulls, cake fight and defending the base from horde of enemies), then after the server is filled up or the warm up is over they change the mode in to normal one?

I want to see a gym somewhere in Brink.

Think about it. There are a lot of games and maps out there but have you ever seen a gym (or similar)? There are hundreds of restrooms (L4D) and crates (any given shooter), but no areas for exercise for the people who are suppose to inhabit these map-worlds.

Now, for the Brink universe, of course, it might be a rusty, neglected gym (since the people are busy fighting).

(maggol) #11

A gym map maybe a good tech demo to demonstrated the SMART button.

(SockDog) #12

Really like this idea as it’s always awkward finding something to do during warmup. Perhaps throw in a few low XP incentives and just do a survival mode (Storm the Spawn? Spawn Invaders?).

Rahdo did mention in one of the interviews that they were planning on doing the cut-scenes during warm-up.

(tokamak) #13

Yeah but it’s not warm up, it’s server fill-up, which could take hours if you’re unlucky. A small mini-game would be awesome.

THEN AGAIN, Brink, given it’s multi-singleplayer structure would be the LAST game which would ever need that.

(Floris) #14

A TV mode for spectating clanwars without being in the actual game server itself

(DarkangelUK) #15

A freerunning (parkour) speed/time trial mode through maps. Standard mode with SMART button enabled, pro mode with no SMART button and a list of top 10 times per map/mode etc. Maybe defrag CTF style fast capture stuff as a well, get objective then transport it back to location etc.

From my own experience I’d rather wait for a place to open on a full server than join an empty one. Incentivising the latter could change that.

Agreed on the bots filling slots but even L4D has a lobby. Why not put the lobby in a level and include those games while you’re waiting for people to join.

Again from my experience I join games in progress in L4D because I don’t want to sit in a lobby waiting for people to join.

May I ask for some proposed topics to be clarified?
[ul]

[/li][/ul]
[ul][li]Care to explain how you can play ET-style squad-based matches in a random map?
[/li][li]What’s “easy”? Does it need some Simcity-like terrain editor and a prop gun to fill up your map?
[/li][li]Movie-editing is hard, let’s go fragging!
[/li]On a less poking-fun-at-note, previous id tech 4 games did offer demo’s. You can’t really change the angles that much though, seeing how you don’t have all the info from the server; only server-demo would allow such freedom.[/ul]

As for my own wishlist, in no particular order of seriousness:

[ul][li]An automatic teabagging detector/autoban bot. Real players prefer coffee.
[/li][li]A magic 8 ball to predictl the opposing team’s used playing strategy. It can’t be wrong all the time!
[/li][li]Pimped servers (certified like ET:QW’s ranked servers): only players with a sufficient rig and graphical tweaks can enter, guaranteeing an equal playfield for people who don’t want to turn down their graphical details (or as some marketeers say: “the way it’s meant to be played”).
[/li][li]Integrated spelling and grammar checking. Each mistake takes 1 XP away.
[/li](For those <18 gamers out there) Your parents caught you playing Brink? Just tell them it’s educational![/ul]

Also, if you’re still looking for some fauna to be swimming around in those large bodies of water, may I suggest some species like the pygmy seahorse (good to save on polygons), blue damselfish (the goggles, they do nothing) or even a dope fish (warning: easter eggs ensue).

As for those who find my suggestions highly un-serious, please try to be more creative and let the devs sort it out.

(WeblionX) #18

A game and level editor that runs properly on Linux.

I think introducing random obstacles/cover on maps is a very interesting concept for a multi-player FPS. While you have a fundamental layout designed for cohesive gameplay, smaller randomised changes would ensure minor shifts in strategy. TBH online FPS suffers horribly from the effects of repeated play on static maps which people learn to exploit heavily.

Briefly and without much deep thought.

[ul]
[li]Talking of machinima controls for demos and movie making, also include KillCam during play.
[/li]
[li]Combat grinding by reducing earned XP if certain tasks are repeated without variation.
[/li]
[li]Support for heat maps via server/client logs
[/li]
[li]Teamstack voting. Losing team can vote to shuffle teams when a map completes and the team have lost by a determined margin.
[/li]
[li]Admin alert function. Ability for a player to request an admin to join/monitor the server. via email/twitter/IM etc
[/li][/ul]

[ul]
[li]What i mean as random map not something like Diablo, but more to props placement like table, cars, chair etc. The objective placement is still the same for each round, what is different is the props placement[/li][li]I want something like Forge editor in Halo 3 or the sandbox editor for Far Cry 2, but if SD can do more advanced but more easy for newbie mapper, it doesn’ t wrong at all, right?[/li][li]Again, the movie editor that i want is something like in Halo 3, but add a new feature like options for add more movie effect (bullet time, freezing etc)[/li][/ul]

PS: I’m not a halo fan, but it doesn’t wrong to “steal” something that has popular and improve it for something like your game, right?
