BRINK suggestions forum

Yeah, and making it an RTS would expand the consumer base as well. You can’t keep adding stuff, that would just turn it into a bland mix.

(SockDog) #682

Says the guy all over Brink to be an RPG like it isn’t the same thing.

Actually I was thinking today about XP. How would it work if the XP attributed towards your persistent character development was limited in each map and only credited on map completion.

So persistent XP (pXP) would be capped at say 500XP per map. Easily achievable in 25-50% of a normal maps length. Non-presistent XP (nXP) is uncapped and contributes to upgrades etc like in ETQW.

My thinking is the farmboys have no benefit to screwing with the game because they can play and get max pXP far easier by just playing than looking to maximise their pXP per minute with douchey edge of map whoring. IMO this would encourage people who want XP to play more, play complete maps and play the actual game rather than be distracted by playing just for the pXP. Other gamers who don’t care for the character development are also not penalised for just playing the game to win or have fun.

nXP like in ETQW contributes towards map/campaign upgrades so you still have that carrot there for people to strive for. Although I’d also suggest that the nXP required for upgrades should change depending on the team balances (rather like spawn times alter).

And Achievements. I you’re conscious of good and bad ways to go about it so perhaps this is going to be patronising. But please, where possible no achievements that promote poor online etiquette. I’m stunned by people in ETQW who join a pub server and then try and get some melee only achievement. Rescue Gnome is kinda neat though.

Psst… SockDog… Edit button…!

(SockDog) #686

Yes I know, I made the internet cry by posting three in a row. Usually I’d wall-a-text you into next week but tonight, well, tonight just consider me wreckless in separating my posts by subject matter.

Thanks though. Have a tapir. :stroggtapir:

Dunno where I read it, but someone hinted that there will be missions that ask players to take out the opposing team’s MVP? What I would like to see in addition to that is for the MVP to be notified that someone is on a mission to take them out either by default or as an ability.

(Nail) #688

targets are exactly that, protect them accordingly

(SockDog) #689

I sort of got the idea that the MVP wasn’t necessarily the most objective important person but more the player on the opposite team who was, for example, killing most of your team.

(halex) #690

It could be either. But, I mean, if they’re attacking, not completing objectives and just killing people, I wouldn’t call that productive, and so I probably would rather give MVP to the guy that actually PROGRESSES the game for your team. However, if you’re defence…

I reckon it depends probably on who’s getting more sustained XP, which would probably be more of a fair judgement.

LOL. Dont take this the wrong way as I dont want to sound like a condescending prick…

In ANY game where there are objectives… the most important thing is to eliminate the threat first, ensure that everyone is dead then complete the objective. I can assure you, its very easy to complete objectives when your teamates are killing everyone. So if a team is attacking - its very productive… in fact its the most productive thing you can do.

(MILFandCookies) #692

yeh thanks for that

(tokamak) #693

It is not. RPG elements, in this sense the ‘development of characters’ have been integrated in any form of gameplay. Adding in in rpg elements into a first person shooter doesn’t stop it from being a first person shooter, adding in a third person view in it however, takes away the first person element. Oh and I stand accused, I’ve used the turret deployment view numerous times to be peak over walls and around corners.

I’d rather see the players who are able to figure out the best players on the other team and make them priority by themselves being rewarded than the game holding their hand and pointing them out for them. Especially now the different players are so easily recognisable in this game.

(Jamieson) #694

My comp experiance has taught me that you kill everyone in the area i.e get Area Dominance then you complete the objective. Your objective guy should be well out of the way ready to move in once the other team is down.

If the defenders take out your objective guy then you have to wait till he respawns and start over again.

Its the best way. The defenders are not going to put up a defence if there all dead.

Have 3 options

Highest fragger, Most objectives completed and MVP the person who completed the most objectives who also got a high amount of frags, not necessarily the highest fragger who might not of done any objectives.

Back to work after a long break . I’ve been playing some of my older games and discover one option that today’s game don’t have and was wonder if SD can consider it. Having voice mask as a multiplayer option so players voice can sound just like characters of the actual game.

(Shiv) #696

O man, thats such a fun gimmick
i remember the helium one and the deep voice one being faves of mine in something :x

(signofzeta) #697

Maybe the voice mask should at least default to the same voice your character is in the cutscenes, or if there is such a technology, you record your own voice into the game, and the game figures out how your voice sounds like, and use that voice in the cutscenes.

But it would be odd to have a kid’s voice from a muscular man.

If not this game, maybe next game.

That would be really hard. I don’t think the computer could process proper voice inflections and and such, so your cutscene voice would just sound like a robot, with no expression. Unless you actually had a script of the cutscene dialogue and could record into the game.

(BioSnark) #699

way too much trouble. as for voice altering, I think it’s fun but I know some people find it annoying.

(H0RSE) #700

If they do have voice masking, they need a Patrick Stewart voice option, since he can make anything sound epic and important.
