tk is -XP, revive is +XP, cancel each other out, no XP whoring available

(DarkangelUK) #582

Tbh when it comes to TK-revive, i don’t care about XP… i care if my team mate is ready for action straight away. I’ve never been a fan of TK-revives, in my view it’s an exploit more than a gameplay mechanic. Remove the benefits and you remove the exploit.

(Mustang) #583

I love a good TK-Revive, I personally like the mechanic
However I have no idea if there is a net XP gain or lose, I do it for the team, not the XP

(Reanimator) #584

Tk-revive = ???

(DarkangelUK) #585

If someone has very little health, you shoot them then instantly revive them giving an HP boost with the revive… that means you need to give them less health packs to get them back to full HP as the revive jumps them up to about 50% there and then.

(Nail) #586

TK-revive is killing a team-mate when very low on health and reviving him (50% health) rather than feeding him health pacs, brings health up faster and saves health pacs. Done in W:ET and ET:QW

(murka) #587

A reminder that tk-revive doesn’t gain any exp because the game detects friendly and enemy damage and only gives exp for healing/repairing enemy damage.
Of course everyone shouldn’t do this as most who find it new get to tk-revive at a very bad situation like while cooking a nade or just before enemy comes in.

I just wish people start playing for the win and think of some new clever and innovative ways of doing so. One thing that really hindered this was radar in et:qw, it was really a killer of any tactics. I find myself being the only skilled player on a team filled by newbies, but i like to face difficult odds. I could go behind enemy lines and plant ex in sewer i would rampjump on the stairs and plant high. Most people couldn’t defuse it and i can do objectives on my own, but anyone taking a glance on the radar will notice me and i’m dead/uncovered.

Of course giving new players such freedom will give them the “wtf i’m supposed to do?” effect where as experts will love it as they can think outside the box.
My suggestion:

Allow players to import their own hitsounds via the game’s menu. Alternatively have a selection of hitsounds within the game that the players can choose from. :)
Rahdo has said that in brink’s gunplay you will naturally notice that you are hitting the enemy opposed to having hitsounds to make you aware of it.

TK-revives are absolutely ****ing terrible. I file a complaint every time someone does that to me. I never asked being shot in the back and what if I were doing something important? I really hate being interrupted in what I’m doing just because some ass thought I should have 50% hp instead of 25%.

TK-revives should never have been more effective than normal healing. It’s a design flaw.

+1

(Ragoo) #590

You seem to be the worst teamplayer ever. People trying to be good medics and give you health and you file a complaint and call them ass. wtf
I hope I’m never on the same server as you because I wouldn’t know what you want me to do and for what action you complain and flame me…

edit: Just remembered that earlier in this thread you called me a “careless ass” for doing accidental teamkills with nades.
I hope you are called “tokamak” in the game so I know which games to avoid…

(CyburK) #591

i pretty much agree with sockdog. but maybe the shooter crowd has changed and there is only this XP and award thing that makes a fps exiting.
etqw wasnt that exiting for me i played it maybe 1 month. this whole stats thing is not interesting for me i just join a game have my fragging for about an hour and thats it.
brink aint my cup of coffee since i think the characters look totally stupid in the first place. my opinion might change over some demo…

+1
Thank you good sir for being such a dick ingame! That ass as you so elegantly put it is the one who keeps you alive while you do your objectives.

A good medic will tk you in a quiet moment and will bring you to full health as well if the situation allows it. But don’t expect him to follow you like a dog and shove medipacks onto you! I hate it when I drop medpacks somewhere in the direct vicinity behind cover and the person who just got revived just runs off without even looking and most likely gets killed again behind the next corner.

Don’t hate the player, hate the game! You can’t blame the medic using a design flaw if it is the most efficient way to get the job done.

Please do, I have no interest in playing games where the lives of teammates are so low in value.

Exactly, that’s why SD needs to avoid this returning to Brink.

(Ragoo) #594

As I said before, it’s not always my fault that other players just ignore that I’m cooking a nade and run right where I am about to throw it. And that is just one example of the many things that happen.
In one year of et:qw pub playing less than 10 people filed a complaint against me and I guess I never did it because I never met someone who killed me on purpose. I always felt that the accidental tk’s were for the greater good of winning and I often found me saying ‘sorry’ because someone tk’ed me and it was my fault.
But obviously you are trying to be the biggest douche possible by filing complaints for every tk even if it was accidental or helped you or your team.

edit: And I always liked tk-revive  But perhaps that is because I don’t take games super seriously and think it’s not realistic to tk revive…

(DarkangelUK) #595

I’m not against because it’s not realistic, i’m against it because it’s an exploit and not a game mechanic, and takes away some of the importance of health packs for the most part. Even more so when you got the full HP revive upgrade in ETQW, was rare your health packs made an appearance at that point.

(.Chris.) #596

I fail to see how it was an exploit when they specifically made voice chat for “Hold on, I’m gonna TK Revive you!”

(shirosae) #597

Pfft, everyone knows that was just a hax smuggled into the game by a secret cabal of ninja competition players in their desperate attempt to destroy and pervert SD’s pristine golden undying vision of how the game is supposed to be played.

(DarkangelUK) #598

Yeah, adding a VO makes it not so. Think if they maybe add “Hang till i aimbot you face” VO then bots would be legit and everyone should accept it?

(Reanimator) #599

Haha just imagine something like that DarkAngel, that would be some funny stuff.

(shirosae) #600

If they also built the bot and shipped it with the game, like they did with TK-revive… yeah, pretty much.

So the moral here is: Don’t buy games that ship with aimbots intentionally put there by the developers? Or maybe wait for the comp community to fix it so the game is more to your liking, like I’m told to do every time I suggest anything.
