Equal xp bonuses could lead to people doing the same useless stuff, like spawn camping etc.

Killing enemies near objectives is just always better than killing them anywhere else.

How is spawn camping useless? It prevents or delays them reaching the objective in first place…

(tokamak) #443

Because they’ll just respawn again instead of having waste allot of time getting to the objective.

(murka) #444

Spawntimes are usually like 10-20sec(maybe less, depending on obj, dynamic spawntime configuration and map size). In that time you can do any objective and that is one big advantage. Also enemies are packed together giving you simpler killing with spam-weapons or just predict where the enemy is with ease.

(.Chris.) #445

Seriously…

(tokamak) #446

You’re basically increasing the pace at which enemy waves come at you by spawn-camping. That makes the kills you get at their spawn less valuable than the ones near an objective.

(murka) #447

Your reading comprehension indicates that you aren’t the brightest star in the galaxy…
I kill enemy. My team kills some more. All enemies dead.
I go to their spawn to spawnkill. Most enemy dead.
Team plants objective. 1-2 enemies reach obj only to be killed/be wrong class. I keep spawnkilling. I die. Timer on charge hits 10. No enemy can rush to charge and defuse(measure time to run from spawn to obj). I win.

I hope you can think “outside the box” which in this case means being able to understand how to be at the right place at the right TIME. <-Oh i can’t stress this word enough.

It’s a fast paced game, you need time.

(SockDog) #448

This. The more complicated you make it the more you penalise innovative play. TBH I’d rather they took the RPG out of my FPS.

(tokamak) #449

Now I find that a convincing point. Games shouldn’t be regulated too far indeed.

(Dormamu) #450

yeah … but we need some cookies for Bethesda to bring the big buck’s…if we want a good launch we need Bethesda.

(Ragoo) #451

If the old respawn system is still used they’ll bet dead for like 20 seconds. If you kill them at the objective they will on an average be dead for a shorter time. Thus you should reward killing someone when the spawn timer just passed the 0 and is full again more

But I agree that you shouldn’t regulate the game like this because it’s too confusing for the casual gamers t(hat will care about XP the most)

(RoryGreen) #452

You should put the elephant from my avatar into Brink! Have it as graffiti in the game

Elephant FTW!!!

(BioSnark) #453

I feel that would destroy my funz like sad panda.

(Speider) #454

The ability to map the controller yourself would be nice.

And a picture of your character sent to everyone you kill online, so they know who to hate and get back at in the next round

Hi Rahdo,

Any chance of us getting the knife as a weapon for quick melee? However, I won’t like it to be implement like COD. Just keep it simple like slashing or stabbing movement.

Also on a side note, I don’t see any gore effect so I’m assuming there will be none?

We’re still looking into how knives are used, but for a while, that was going to be the bonus for the pistols. It’s a bit up in the air at the moment, though.

(tokamak) #457

There is gore (what else could expect in a game about global warming OLOL), and Rahdo already spilled something about the knife being allowed when you’re using a one-handed gun.

(H0RSE) #458

I always hated melee weapons in FPS games. It is a “First Person SHOOTER,” not a “First Person Shooter, and if you’re close enough, melee.”

The only melee attack should be with the gun itself, unless a specific class has melee attacks incorporated into its build. It’s fast paced action, I don’t (and shouldn’t) have to worry about being in a firefight, and having a third guy come up and knife me.

I’m sure the operative/stealth class will have a disguise and backstab ability, but other than situations like tat, melee should be strictly with the weapon in hand. If you wan’t to play stealthy knife guy, go play D&D and roll a rogue.

(system) #459

A melee weapon would be nice for sure and I don’t understand why it should be left out just because the genre is called FPS. A real soldier also takes a knife with him and a knife is nothing that would make guns redundant.

Is there really a difference with being in a firefight, and having a third guy come up and shoot you? I think it’s just the humiliation that isn’t liked here.

I really love melee attacks, at least, in the way Quake Wars handled it. It adds a whole new dimension to the game. Not too fond of COD melee, especially not how perks make it even more ridiculous

However, the way Brink goes about it does sound interesting.
