Brink: Steam & Anticheat

(Senethro) #41

How did you get Year 01 and Year 05 award without passing through that one in the middle?

(Herandar) #42

I think the answer to this one is in the Suggestions forum. The awards aren’t in correct order if they were acheived before the award system was implemented. Or something like that.

(digibob) #43

He has them all as far as I can see
For the following reasons:

 1. Steam knows what are you playing and when and the hosters can create statistics about you…
So what? Seriously why are people having such huge problems with this?

Now you on the other hand…

(BlueRed) #45

Don´t get me wrong but its my live and i wanna have a privacy.

It´s clearly a marketing instrument… you can see what people play and how much they play a game so you can decide for how much a game can be sold simple thing… and when you can lower the price thats the point.

Thats my opinion.

Where does it bother you in any shape or form?

ok now why is being an anonymous statistic a bad thing? You know all your purchases in the supermarket go into someones computer right?

(BlueRed) #49

If i pay with cash no one knows…

b.t.w. Steam bothers me everytime with its startup and login…
I do NOT want to login if i just want to play singleplayer…

ETQW for example, login is only necesary if you want to play multiplayer and thats good!
No Steam, No Secruom, just a simple serialnumber and that perfect and good!!!

(Nail) #50

yes, but one market gives me a discount for the privilege of tracking my purchases and another gives me cash back. To me that’s worth it, Steam gives ME nothing and it’s a hassle

Start in Offline mode.

Some people just want things to be difficult.

(Nail) #52

Start in Offline mode.

yep, here’s how, but remember:

Please note that you must connect to the Steam Network and test each of the games you would like to use in Offline Mode at least once to set up your account and configure Offline Mode on your machine.

Then set your user/pass to Remember. Or is that being insecure with your personal details?

!!!

Oh, you mean they have made a strategic level decision about trying to influence customer behaviour by voluntarily forgoing a little profit in search of long term loyalty? No, they’re doing you a personal favour. How nice of them.

Steam gave me GTAIV for 80% off or something silly over Christmas. I’ve no illusions about this being anythign other than a different form of profit seeking, but if you’re one of those people who still pays for games then you can’t deny Steam gives good bargains on a regular basis.

(Senethro) #54
yep, here’s how, but remember:

oh golly gee an internet connection to use a service for downloading gaems from the internet. Thats surely going to be hard to come by!

(SockDog) #55
yep, here’s how, but remember:

Similarly for a more traditional retail edition.

“Before you put the disc in the box and back on the shelf, install the game on your PC.”

(Nail) #56

As I’ve said before, I have no objections to steam as an option, I only object to steam exclusivity.

“Oh, you mean they have made a strategic level decision about trying to influence customer behaviour by voluntarily forgoing a little profit in search of long term loyalty? No, they’re doing you a personal favour. How nice of them.”

I shop where I get the best value, if I can get a further discount on food I have to buy, I’m gonna take it.

(light_sh4v0r) #57

Steam is only good for the insane bargains they have at times, I’ll never buy a game for the full price over steam.

(stealth6) #58

can’t this just go the same way that cod4 did?
Hardcopy for the people that wanted that, or order via steam, this solves both problems imo.
And then obviously the game would have no ties with steam ingame, only the selling medium

(Herandar) #59

I know this doesn’t mean anything for certain, but if you click on the pre-order link on the Brink website, you can pre-order a PC CD-ROM hard copy. Go buy your discs.

(SockDog) #60

I’ll say again. I believe whether the game uses Steam (distribution platform) or not is more dependent on whether SD/Beth choose to use Steamworks (backend/community libraries) for the backend of the game.

Unless Steamworks is totally stand-alone you’re likely to get Steam come along for the ride whether you buy retail or not.

But lets also be clear. There has been no official announcement on what SD is using other then they don’t want to use GFWL.
