brink sound

what’s up with the sound in the video here:

the sound changes a lot from normal to dull and vice versa, especially during explosions. it hurts my ears. is that in the game? if so, remove it or give an option to remove it please, i can’t stand to watch the game like this, i hardly doubt i could stand to play like this.

well in real life when a exslosion happens near you say like a grenade goes off, your ears will ring and it gets hard to hear for several secounds. They have this feature in plaenty other games and I guess you could just play with the sound off its no biggie to me.

if i’d want real life action, i’d join the army. in that video the game sounds like it is broken. this is a game and a game is supposed to be fun. what i’m hearing in that vid is definitely not fun, nor is it enjoyable :frowning:

(tapout) #4

Like I said, turn the sound off.

(madness) #5

it could be a case of sounding weird in videos, but not noticeable while playing…
let’s see

The more I watch and hear it the more I like it. The guns all sound great. The distant sound is convincingly muted. The fade in/out after the explosions is fine, it adds to the immersion for me. I think it’s great.

(SockDog) #7

I think he’s saying the sound is a stuttery.

(dommafia) #8

I rather liked the sound… specially after reading the audio engineer’s interview. It will be a lot easier to tell when you need to react to a gun sound and when you can dismiss it as being too far to be of any immediate danger.

(Mustang) #9

As long as it’s not as broken as the sound in Crysis 2, you can’t tell distance, direction, obstacles (walls) or near enough anything with the sound in that game

Brink breaks genre conventions, it does not fear to break some eardrums too.

it looks like a low quality monosound rip from a console source. Will sound better coming out of your TV/headphones/speakers console or PC.

(Joe999) #12

i really would like to know the opinion of sd’s sound designer about how changing sound volume and adding lots of dullness is good for the ears and good for the brain. i see no reason as to why this has to be forced upon gamers. i’d like to play my games on a constant volume level. if i’d want the volume lower or change the pitch, i’d use an equalizer. ringing in ears is something unhealthy, why do you want to give the user an unhealthy experience?

(Pytox) #13

also you don’t have lag in RL

(tokamak) #14

The sound sounds great.

Seeing orange crap everywhere makes me nauseating, must be unhealthy as well.

(Joe999) #15

there’s lots of orange on this forum, so what are you doing here besides increasing your post count with stupid posts?

(Lanz) #16

And exactly how fun is it to play a game without sound? Do you actually think that is an option?

Anyway, I do agree with Joe999 that it’s quite an annoying effect with the sound going up and down in volume like that. It also seems to happen quite often which makes it even worse. It makes the audio sound broken to me personally.

(tokamak) #17

It’s unrealistic to constantly hear the same level of sound when there’s gunfire and explosions all around you.

(DarkangelUK) #18

Well it comes down to doing things for gameplay sake, compared to doing it for realisms sake. It’s unrealistic to have the same soldier re-appear after dying, but it’s done for gameplays sake. I’m interested to hear how it pans out properly in-game, and certainly not going to write it off before experiencing it 1st.

(tokamak) #19

Well immersion rather than realism then. This is a nice example of how it can be all at the same time.

(nincek) #20

I prefer having realistic sounds in the game, not having gun firing sounds and explosions like braking treebranches.
