brink sold ~256000 copies... (PC)

(MoonOnAStick) #21
Just for the fun of numbers:

700 / 256000 = 0.0027% is still playing, dang.

Is this accurate??
Didn’t Rahdo say somewhere that unique players is about 5 times the maximum concurrent players?
If so 700*5/256000 ~= 1.4%
256,000 via steam only
i guess there will be another 256,000 via other sources (shops etc)

but this are very low numbers. very low for PC

 • etqw 1,657,125 players
Do these estimates include all sales of the Steamworks games listed?

The last estimate of PC digital distribution I read put digital revenues at about 70% of those at retail. That would put total sales around 620000, which seems a little high.

(AnthonyDa) #22

So ~99% of the people who left the game are competitive PC gamers? ROFL

(zenstar) #23

So similar to “Yay. Lets play some super linear walkthrough that stops every 5 seconds to explain gameplay to you before you can play the actual game”, sometimes refered to as a tutorial?

And I agree with you partially: There should have been a little extra eplanation about how to go about things in a format that forced people to understand what to do (because some people can’t be trusted to figure it out).

Now if only it was explained to them as if they were idiots. No wait… everyone complained about being spoonfed a video at the begining and skipped it because they’re not idiots and then they never unlocked any weapons and quit.

And just in case the pair of you didn’t notice - I’m not being 100% serious. Why does everything have to be so damn serious? lighten up.

(snoopycat) #24

I dont think sales figures are honest because they dont show number of copies returned/traded

(wolfnemesis75) #25

…you can return or trade in a PC game?

(FireWorks) #26
Just for the fun of numbers:

700 / 256000 = 0.0027% is still playing, dang.

Is this accurate??
Ehm no… first:

700 / 256 000 = 0.002734375
Adding a % after wards makes the figure smaller…

0.0027 means 0.27 %

Second:
These 700 are the peak value of the day. That means that 700 people are simultaniously playing at one certain time a day. All other players that dont play at this time are not being counted towards this! Now do you play every day? Most people dont. Still one of their active games is BRINK and they can be counted to the active playerbase.

Rahdo mentioned that the playerbase is a couple times larger that those 700. Smooth should know more about this topic.

Anyway these are just rough figures and gotta be careful what you interprete into them! Statistics is a bitch!!!

EDIT: too late…

Snoopycat, you cant trade in a STEAM game, its bound to the owners account. (Which is in my law knowledge illegal and should be taken to court once… At least in the EU)

(kilL_888) #27

for console players, yes. this does not apply for steam sales though. once purchased the game is locked to your account.

so, for pc it is actually pretty accurate and im happy splash damage was able to sell that many copies.

(wolfnemesis75) #28
View these achievements stats and wonder…:
http://steamcommunity.com/stats/brink/achievements

Only 10.6% played a char to rank 5 meaning lv 20.
Only 74.6% even played to rank 2 meaing lv 5!

Thats shocking about sales, but theres even worse about the players:
Only 25% used grenade shooting…
If anything, these stats prove that there could very well be folks waiting in the wings who should give it another go! DLC=CPR!

Come on DLC! DLC! DLC!
(Queen’s We Will Rock You blares in the background!)

They don’t prove that at all; they just show everyone gave up trying to get this game to work, or no one wanted to stick around to wait for fixes to things that will never come, except those who think the game is working as intended.

The only stat that matters is the peak player number statistic, and that only goes to prove everyone went back to whatever game they were playing before BRINK came out.

(Breo) #30

Where the hell are all the Brink players for PC? :frowning:
Can’t remember that I saw a lot of full servers online, I’m @ the Ark since the release

Quite possible that a huge amount gave up, because of the technical issues.
Another 50% thought this was like W:ET, ET:QW or maybe CoD? :stuck_out_tongue:
so, for pc it is actually pretty accurate and im happy splash damage was able to sell that many copies.
After reading how Bulletstorm didn’t make money for Epic and People Can Fly, I’m glad SD was able to turn a profit on Brink. As disappointed as I was with it, I’m still looking forward to whatever SD announces next.

These peak hours statistics have to be total BS. 250 people playing at the same time at peak NA times you say?? There is no way that is correct. 250/16=15.6. There is NO TIME of the day when there are 15 full servers.

And 700 players peak for EU? 700/16=43.75. You have to be kidding me if anyone is expected to believe there are 10 full servers much less 43!

The REAL peak for the game is more like 80 tops. Thats 5 full servers. But they sold 1/4 million copies? $$LOLfailLOL$consoleport$LOL$$

Ok 1 more time, Steam stats are those that have LOADED the game, the numbers are NOT those actively PLAYING on a server. Those numbers are people playing on servers, campaign with bots, coop with friends, doing challenges, in menus, or even like myself playing in devmap and messing around.

(zenstar) #34

For all we know there could be an underground ring of people playing on private servers.
First rule of Brink club is… thwak

(In fact I would not at all be surprised if there were a few lan parties out there getting some good enjoyment out of the game)

(neg0ne) #35

congrats SD

i´m happy, Brink is at least moneywise an sucsess.
So chances are, SD puts some more bucks into patching and give the PC fanbase more of an PC game

(DrpPlates) #36

yeah i agree, no way… i jump on every night around 5-6pm west coast time, and am lucky to see 1 maybe 2 active servers with a ping under 200… there are usually, 5-6 servers with 1 person logged in…

been this way for weeks now… .

(Darksider) #37

Umm, you can’t return or trade Steam bought games…

(SockDog) #38

Pretty impressive sales numbers for the PC, not all that far off the PS3 IIRC. But then it was a highly anticipated game amongst PC fps gamers. This makes it even more sad that it saw such an immediate drop in users and quite obvious it’s not forum haunters like us nit picking the game to death, the feels seems very widespread.

I hope SD learn the right lessons from this.

(murka) #39

You can return steam games if you send them a message and you have just recently bought the game. For ex if you buy a game and it won’t work on your pc.

(BMXer) #40

K, so peak EU hours are ~700 players. Anyone who isn’t retarded can clearly see that there are tops 5 active servers at “peak” times. So that leaves roughly ~600 people playing “campaign with bots, coop with friends, doing challenges, in menus, or even like myself playing in devmap and messing around.”??? Ok 1 more time, You must be kidding me, right?
