Brink : Single Player

(suckmyAMERICANFLAG) #1

I was wondering about the campaign/story mode for Brink. I’ve heard some about it but it sounds linear and boring. What I want to know is it actually going to be like a campaign mode, lets say, like Crysis, Cod, and Halo? I don’t want to buy this right now with PSN being down, and having to play a really silly singleplayer where it’s just me and AI teammates vs bots on a map I pick. I want story progression like COD.

In no way am I wanting physics and gameplay like the other games stated, I just want the campaign mode to be epic.
It’s either this game or MX vs ATV : Allive, and the storymode will be the deciding factor.

(BiigDaddyDellta) #2

lol, nope its all one game. campaign multiplayer and all.

(suckmyAMERICANFLAG) #3

But see that sounds horrible. So basically it’s like playing online with bots. I’ll pass. If it were Epic like Crysis 2, or Halo, I’d buy this. They should have just made this game Multiplayer only.

Try Wolfenstein: Enenmy Territoy

The game is available free! go download it!

Brink is Wolfenstein ET on steroids and polished with a super innovative movement system

(TAPETRVE) #5

Bingo. They promised a bit too much in that respect.

“Like Halo.”

Crysis 2 and Halo we’re okay, but the only thing that made them “epic” were the setpieces. Without those, you have shooting taking place in a cardboard box and the mechanics - at least for Halo - just aren’t enough without setpieces.

Why don’t you try renting it first before you make a decision.

“Multiplayer only.”

Actually, not everyone can afford multiplayer so no, they shouldn’t have done that. Even as a single player experience, the game doesn’t look bad. Maybe not challenging as a solely SP game, but rather fun none-the-less.

Singleplayer is just multiplayer with bots. That’s retarded. I want a singleplayer experience Like Half Life. It makes Singleplayer pointless and to be honest, that waisted time could have been added time towards multiplayer.

Btw, if you can’t afford multiplayer, and you buy this game for singleplayer, you’re going to be disappointed. Sounds pretty Linear.

I <3 MP only games, i wish they made more of them.

+10

This should be one of them. Why did they even add a singleplayer? It should be renamed “PracticeMode”.

(tokamak) #10

I think it’s fair to say that people just shouldn’t bother if they’re looking for a game to exclusively play singleplayer on.

You can say the same about L4D1? Brink still has cut scenes and a story ect, just not on the same level as Halo or Cod.

(zerorawr) #12

Aren’t all singleplayer centric games basically you with/against bots? Unless you’re talking about something with a good story, I fail to see your logic.

What’s your point? Most single player is just multiplayer with bots, except the bots come out at different times and point you down a linear corridor. If you have an issue with bots, you pretty much have an issue with most games.

Funny thing is, I don’t think I - or Splash Damage - really care what kind of experience you want. The reason *we don’t care is because (assuming I was a developer for a game) we wouldn’t want to create a game you’ve already played before, and you’ll get bored if you play a new game that is just like an old game. We want you to try new things and not reskin old things ala CoD or GoW or Halo.

I’m also not sure you grasp the definition of the word “linear.” In essence, Halo and Crysis we’re both “linear.” Crysis 2 just had “miniature sandboxes” for the combat. The same is true of Brink. If we want to get picky, the story sure is linear but the gameplay, just off of looks, is pretty open.

Again, you haven’t even played it yet. Wait until it releases, rent it, and then see if your opinion changes.

*Note: I am not affiliated with Splash Damage, Bethesda or Zenimax Media in any way, shape or form…except in spirit.

My point is this singleplayer mode is basically to get you ready for multiplayer, which is a waste of time. It’s not progressive like Half Life, Cod, Halo, Elder Scrolls. It’s just multiplayer maps with a few cut scenes in between. Can you say Linear?

If you get this game for the singleplayer (in case you can’t go multiplayer) I assure you this game offers a very good singleplayer compared to the average FPS singleplayer campaign. Why?

First of all there are 2 campaigns, security and resistance (character customization) and the challenge mode (weapon customization).

The bots are superior to any fps game on xbox and ps3 due to objective wheel being also used by them.

There’s no other like brink in terms of customization and movement system.

Original story and artwork.

Going through an horizontal path while the game tells you what to see and what to do is BORING ! ! !

If you want a game like that so much I advise you to buy films instead of games!

There is a difference between becoming hero and being like a hero. In all the fps games I’ve played the single player and then the multiplayer… there’s much more depth in the multiplayer than the singleplayer.

But oh well thats my opinion

(Crytiqal) #16

Whats up with all these people trying to come off as if a single player is the same as an mp with bots?

A single player game would put YOU, in the center of attention and let the entire world revolve around YOU. Wheres the experience in an MP with bots would be more that everyone is equally important.

Some people like the experience of being the hero of the story, which you don’t get within an MP with bots.

(dazman76) #17

Which surely cannot include Crysis 2, because that story is terribly clichéd and very poorly executed, especially in terms of voice acting  CryTek should definitely stick to making engines IMO. I’ve never played Halo beyond 5 minutes of the original, so can’t really comment there!

I guess though, this “blending single and multiplayer” description does seem to be missing the mark a bit, although I’ll withhold judgement on that until Friday  I kind of expected the whole single player vs. bots thing and a somewhat short affair, but I’m thinking many people expected the opposite. We’ll find out soon enough I guess

(JamieStrong) #18

I think it would work well free roam like mass effect of assassins creed

(ThePilgrim101) #19

Well, 1) Plenty of singleplayers have been part of amazing games that get you ready for mutliplayer (i.e., Every console Battlefield Game).

And 2) Halo and Call of Duty were progressive once and only once. Their sequels are now just carbon copies of the original and all of them were a succession of fairly linear environments with one way in and one way out. To quote you, “Can you say linear?”

Finally, 3) You’re using a singleplayer only game to justify your assertion that multiplayer and singleplayer should be separate. TES has never had a multiplayer component. More over, it’s not even a shooter like Halo, CoD or HL. One of your examples don’t belong…and it’s this one.

(TJskwared) #20

your thinkin about it wrong its not just TDM, and there is story line, and you cant make SP without bots LOL
