Brink : Single Player

(pii_smith) #21

I pretty much hope that suckmyAMERICANFLAG is either not buying it or playing it on the 360/PS3. (My personal guess is 360.)

(Shadedluck) #22

I would like for you to name one way in which Halo and CoD singleplayer weren’t linear. If you are stating that Brink is linear because it’s only Objective based, then please, let me refer you to http://www.splashdamage.com/forums/showthread.php?t=24641 where you can discuss why/why not there should be more than one game mode.

(suckmyAMERICANFLAG) #23

I don’t want a path to follow. I just don’t want the single player to have progression, that’s all. I want to feel like I’m on an adventure, or in war. I want it to feel like it’s an actual single player campaign. Not that I’m playing MP maps on single player with bots.

Example : Blackops Practice Mode
Is this what the campaign will be like? Just with cutscenes in between successful games.

Or will it be like Battlefield campaign mode? Where you move forward and explore and keep going through different scenarios.

BTW I’m a PS3 player all the way.

Don’t get me wrong, but wasn’t Black Ops singleplayer 90% of the multiplayer maps? I do understand what you’re saying, that you want more campaign and less multiplayer, but this game was designed around multiplayer, and the fact that you can experience the story mode with your friends.

(Ragoo) #25

SP is just MP with bots. Same as ET:QW. Some short cutscenes and a story background don’t make this anywhere near comparable to real SP titles

But who cares~

(suckmyAMERICANFLAG) #26

Thank you Ragoo. Quake Wars was horrible. That’s all I needed to know. I’m passing on this.

No real single player story, like Battlefield, means no buy for me.

I think I’ll focus on Battlefield 3. It has a unique Story mode and Multiplayer.

(dazman76) #27

Indeed, it was quite terrible. I played it for months, but I felt pretty dirty afterwards.

Pheww close call for us, but someone knew how to turn him away.

(suckmyAMERICANFLAG) #29

I’m sorry but this is what happens when you let amateurs create a game. I can almost guarantee this game will be dead when BF3 comes out. Having a linear single player like QW:ET & Shadowrun doesn’t help either. This game died before it ever began. The only reason this game will get looked at is because of Bethesda.

(pii_smith) #30

You better tell them amateurs of Splash Damage to stop making games! Wait wasn’t an amateur someone who does not receive money for his work, compared to a professional?
COD really is a jewel of non linear story telling.

(Ragoo) #31

Oh noes, now SD will hate me because one less BRINK copy sold

And suckmyAMERICANFLAG, you apparently never heard of “Multiplayer”, right?
Great games don’t get played for ages because of Singleplayer.

(boozee84) #32

story driven games are overrated in my opinion, because i will play the campaign once, maybe twice, if it’s really good. but to mp i will hold on for months, maybe even years(bfbc2 for example).
BRINK i haven’t even met you yet, but i think i love you!

(Bakewell) #33

@suckmyamericanflag

I’m new here so rocking the boat is not on my agenda but you seem a little confused about games in general.

All games offer a level of linear play. How many games have you played where you start a mission, have to do a bunch of stuff and then move onto the next mission? I’m guessing all of them.

It seems to me that brink differs from those games because even in single player your in a team and thusly a “team player”. Brink doesn’t seem to be the kind of game that rewards lone wolf play styles. Is this perhaps why you seem annoyed at the game?

suckmyAMERICANFLAG

Wants a singleplayer campaign where he’s experiences the story of a hero.

For him the best singleplayer feel is when every big event is scripted and the map tells you where to go. There are no sides on the map because it’s not a sandbox type of map. He won’t be able to get over most objects and often get stuck on them (because solid objects laying on the floor feel more real).

suckmyAMERICANFLAG go play Mafia 2

Right, and there’s no reason that Brink can’t give you that same satisfaction but in a different way. All of the games mentioned give you a path to follow; every singleplayer gives you a path to follow. You’re basically asking for Fallout in Brink – it’s not going to happen.

The Battlefield Singleplayer was a complete tutorial for the multiplayer and I told you that already: Modern Combat, Bad Company and Bad Company 2 we’re pretty much all just large tutorials for the multiplayer.

For the Blops Bot argument: No. Unlike Blops, Brink is an objective based shooter. It shouldn’t turn into Shadowrun or Blops Training. In addition, the gameplay is nothing like Blops.

I’m quite glad you’re a PS3 player.

Piracy is harmful developers because of lost sales.

You just lost Splash Damage a sale.

Hence, you are a pirate.

(ThePilgrim101) #38

You…know nothing about game development, do you?

Splash Damage is the studio that made WoW developers late because they were playing the games.

I can almost gurauntee this game will have a cult following at BF3’s launch and I’ve been a DICE fan since 2003.

Shadowrun didn’t have a story component. And the maps weren’t “linear”.

You haven’t even played the game. Play it, then spew your crud.

(DazTroyer) #39

Oh give the deluded fool a break, he’s obviously looking for a good sp campaign which clearly games like Brink or Shadowrun (i loved that game) don’t have.

As for cult following, i do hope so. Its such a shame that some good games fall by the way side just because the sheep love CoD.

I don’t think Brink will open my eyes to the wonder of cinematics, no, but using “Battlefield” as an example of “good singleplayer” is asinine at best and completely “special” at the worst.

Brink looks great and the combat looks very enjoyable. So long as SD keeps the servers fine, all is good. Games like Modern Combat, Chromehounds and others all had a great core playerbase for upwards of fives years (or until the servers went off).
