Brink Q&A

(SockDog) #1201

Well firstly I’m not sure if MS/Sony would allow it, they’ve gotta get their cut.

Secondly, console gamers are just frankly such poor consumers they’d pay for a anything. see: MW2 DLC.

I don’t think it’s entitlement to demand value for money and support from a game you’ve paid $50-60 dollars on. This is called being a wise consumer, spending your money where it gains most value.

(crazyfoolish) #1202

Microsoft usually doesn’t allow free DLC. (For example the whole tf2 saga)

(Voxie) #1203

That makes them great consumers, right? And the MW2 DLC pack was on the near-top on the Steam top sellers list for several days, so I wouldn’t say that behavior is exclusive to console gamers.

(LyndonL) #1204

The biggest issue as crazyfoolish said is that MS doesn’t allow free DLC. Free DLC is rare at all these days anyway :frowning:

(SockDog) #1205

From who’s perspective?

For me I have ZERO guilt about pushing for the best price and best value I can. Somewhere people got entitlement confused with refusing to be wallet raped.

Sure the PC is getting this way too, but while it’s my platform of choice I’ll happily object to being milked like a money cow.

(SockDog) #1206

Support Valve and other developers who support their titles they make free DLC. Do so by playing those games more and telling your friends to play them.

Some people wanted to pay for L4D2’s DLC on PC because they appreciated it so much. Why? If you feel that way, tell your friends what a great game it is and get them to buy it, if you’re determined to spend money gift them the game. You can reward good developers in ways that doesn’t feed this, IMO, destructive approach.

In short, people should show a little back bone and not buy games that are known to poor value or are designed to milk you via DLC. Saying “I hate it but I really wanna play this game” just tells them you’re ready for a prime time fu…

(Voxie) #1207

Though I’d prefer that all premium DLC gets boycotted, you’ve got to take into account that it’s a highly subjective topic. I wouldn’t touch MW2 with a ten foot pole, yet alone pay 14 god damn euro for five maps, of which two I’ve already played to death, but those who love the game will greatly appreciate the map pack. Would it be better if it were free? Of course, but most people who actually buy it isn’t complaining, and Activision sure isn’t either…

(SockDog) #1208

Activision called bullsh*t on people standing up for what they thought was right and they were correct, everyone folded. Frankly this whole, we’re behind the former IW staff is pretty laughable when the same people were feeding Activision with money and are the reason “conditions” were so poor.

Gamers should grow a pair and stop this, “I don’t agree, but I’ll pay anyway because I’m a weak sucker for marketing hype”.

(SladeNoctis) #1209
Because most console gamers are not as discerning as yourself. Unlucky for you.

Dedicated servers also need someone to run them and that costs money. They hate that.
Yea i know, it sucks.:frowning: But yea i hope the game plays well for all the PC gamers, but yea i doubt i’ll buy this. Since most PS3 users use WiFi their connection usually sucks not including myself. By the way any suckers that brought the stimulus package is only making publishers think they can raise the prices for little content. It already started before with SF4 with those stupids costumes.

(crazyfoolish) #1210

Generally i won’t mind buying any DLC for Brink as long as they make it as cheap as microsoft will allow.

Does anybody know microsoft’s minimum charge rate?

(Pytox) #1211

Any sign if there are tapirs included when ordering collector’s edition?

(Reanimator) #1212

R* is going to have free DLC for Red Dead Redemption and guess what gasp:eek: It’s on consoles :open_mouth:

(AnthonyDa) #1213

Same for Alan Wake, but you can only download it once with a code available on new game, nice way to kill occasion gaming (just like STEAM does).
Also, those free DLC sounds like feature what should be inside the retail game.

Forgive me for reading that with a redneck accent :P. I totally agree though, almost all DLC seems to be things withheld from the original game, DLC imo is what’s killing the video gaming business.

(LyndonL) #1215

DLC has its place. Such as fan-made mods being approved and added into the game as DLC like happened with Killing Floor.

L4D2’s mutators are awesome, and possibly should have been added in the original game, but being as there are going to be so many mix ups on the original recipe, perhaps were based on user feedback such as “wouldn’t it be really cool to have realism mode for versus??” …

It’s also a way (so long as it isn’t charged!!) for Devs to put features into the game that they really wanted in the original game but the publisher didn’t allow due to strict timeline restrictions.

(tokamak) #1216

Continued support also means that games won’t devalue in the long run. TF2 has grown into being a monster game over the years, I’d still be prepared to pay the same price I paid years ago.

(Exile14) #1217

I’m curious, will there/has there been any word on whether “specialised” weapons such as rocket launchers, flame throwers will be available in the game. From the videos I’ve seen, there seem to be a wide range of traditional guns and grenade launchers, anybody seen any different?

(tokamak) #1218

Nope, those weapons won’t be in the game.

(Spaiker) #1219

Thank god, no noobtubing

(Exile14) #1220

Cool, I’m glad they’re focusing on the other things exclusively. Besides, plenty of time for mods, etc.
