Brink Q&A

(SphereCow) #1121

Does the engine implement any vertex animation through shape keys or “blendshapes”?

Will we be able to respec the skills/abilities we have selected and pick new ones? If so, will this come with an XP penalty?

Good ear! Let’s just say that the medic can finally get in on the core objective action in Brink :)[/quote]
Sounds great, bring on Fall 2010! :armadillochase:

It was mentioned that you can get rid of skills you don’t want for a fee…what this ‘fee’ is I do not know.

(ImMadeOfPoison) #1125

Probably something like you’ll get 75% of the XP you used to buy the skill back, which is fine by me.

Random question, to which I would assume the answer would be no:

If you have a bulky armor type, will this armor increase the area of your body that can be hit by bullets?

(ie does shooting the extended shoulder pads on “the Bomb” armor deal damage to the wearer?)

Also, using this tangent, does shooting an enemy’s gun deal damage to the enemy like in Halo?

How diverse are you guys planning on making the voice pack option? If the Ark is home to people all over the world, this can/should be a a really abundant option. Just covering the ‘major’ voices is a pretty big list. I mean, if someone creates a character it would really suck if they had to settle for a different accent than they wanted. I can understand leaving out sub-categories, like southern for American, or cockney for British, or instead of having Chinese, Japanese, and Korean, just have ‘asian’ but for the most part, every major region of the world should be covered. Europe alone is a smorgasbord of accents.

Your clothing won’t affect the game.

Part 1: No, don’t think so.

Part 2: Have you ever played a game where an enemy gun didn’t damage them? A gun is a gun.

I think he meant if a character’s gun is included in that same character’s hitbox.

(light_sh4v0r) #1131

If the hitboxes are like those in ETQW, they’ll just be a hexagon around the player, ie you can hit them while shooting between their legs. I’m sure someone still has that image.

(tokamak) #1132

They’ll be more complicated than that. Distinguishable arms and legs and that.

im wondering if we could get some more specific info on server infrastructure. all this seamless drop-in drop-out stuff confuses me a bit.

dedicated game servers still there, right?

(tokamak) #1134

Yeah they’re quite tight lipped about all that stuff. Personally I hope it will be like battlenet, but that might be too good to be true.

(Lequis) #1135

CoD4-6 do not include the gun as a hitbox. Halo is one of the few that did, probably with the rationale that the energy shield would be lowered if you shot the gun. Killing via shooting a sniper for instance was probably seen as an unavoidable side-effect of adding a gun hitbox.

With respect to the other part of my question: good. It would suck if you had a larger hitbox than your enemy because you picked the Bomb instead of going shirtless.

I’m over-thinking a bit, but now the game will either be based on deceiving the enemy as to your hitbox size (by getting bulky armor), or taking off as much armor as possible so you are harder to notice. I think people are going to abuse the scenery and make their character hard to see in certain environments, but I guess black-clad men in the shadows will be unavoidable.

Yeah, over analyzing! Regardless I am probably going to go number plate armor and sniper ponytail. Considering I run more than most people I’m going to try to perfect my armor to blend with as much of each level as I can (gold/silver/black/white/red/blue combo?) and cut off as much of the bulk as possible.

(INF3RN0) #1136

Will they?

(tokamak) #1137

Yeah, it’s somewhere in Rahdo’s posts.

(AnthonyDa) #1138

Does BRINK has body awareness ? And if so, can we disable it with client cvar ?

(Nail) #1139

I doubt it would be client side, server side is more likely

(light_sh4v0r) #1140

I’m sorry, what’s body awareness?
