Brink Q&A

(Killgar) #1061

Will Brink have !news?

(Ryan) #1062

I dunno if this has been asked before, but how is the buddy system?
Is there something similar to what ETQW has?

It would be cool to also be able to check out your own clan win/loss ratio and stuff.

And is there autorecord? I know in ETQW it was bugged right? And g_banner, is that working this time? :stuck_out_tongue:

God, the Hardcore Q/A was so bad! Do people have no idea that there are hardcore gamers on console as well?! PC isn’t the only, most HARD-to-the-CORE thing in the world.

Sorry if someone said something about it in the last 50 pages, don’t have enough time to catch up on them all.

(tokamak) #1064

Yeah, a lot of people thought that was pretty dire.

I was kinda curious myself, but I think that it is just one of those opt missions that give XP to your team or something (not sure if its actually important to the game tho ).

(spazski) #1067

Not sure if it’s been asked or confirmed (tl;dr)

I’ve been playing Killzone 2 for the past couple days and the way they work the class system is having you unlock them as you go along, and unlocking the last available class near the cap. Will all classes be available for the player right away or will the player have to work and gain experience in order to unlock other classes? And same question as far as weapons go, will they unlock or be available at the start?

I hope all will be available from the beginning, I think you’d have better luck bringing newcomers into the experience if you did it that way.

If it’s already been stated/answered I apologize.

(Voxie) #1068

I’m almost 100% positive that all classes will be available from the get-go (seeing how there are class-specific map objectives for all the different classes).

(tokamak) #1069

It’s pretty, if not completely, certain that all classes willl all be available from the start as they’re all essential to completing the mission.

As far as I understand the classes in Killzone are only relevant to combat so it makes far more sense to let some of them be unlocks.

(spazski) #1070

Just a concern I had, thanks for the answers

(brbrbr) #1071

but fnny idea about “unlockable class”(maybe shipped in following DLC :-P].
when you have ALL unlocks for ALL existing classes, you grant ability for new class, call it "commander’, with mediocre[against more specialized default classes], but extremely wide, capabilities. from demolition to recon and what more importantly, abitiy to deploy Chain of Command-related, improvements and/or disrupt[together w/operative or single-handerly] Opposite team, ones.

p.s.
kinda remind me FieldOp in description[before it cut down in final version to FieldOp].

(Voxie) #1072

When you’ve unlocked everything, you’ll without a doubt be able to build yourself a competent jack-of-all-trades character. No reason to include yet another class for that.

I remember them saying something like all classes and their basic class skills are available from the start, so medics are available, and they can revive and throw medikits from the start. Soldiers can plant charges from the start, etc.

  1. its just YOU opinion. which is make not much sense, as mine.
  2. share just ONE variant 2 employ such ideas.
  3. reasons can be behind anything and/or be absent at all. so its not point in gamedev. sadly.
  4. motivating players to play game[both ingame and side-ways]is NEVER easy. thats point. as well as money from downloadable content. watch for Blizzard[not completely owned(in both senses)by Activision] approach 2 WoW, for example.

You say that his opinion doesn’t make as much sense as your own, but that’s your opinion, which is no more right or wrong than his.

(tokamak) #1076

You mean you actually understood what he wrote

(brbrbr) #1077

sure.
thats why discusstion/requesting about possible new/removed old ones, features in Brink is pointless.
“in general”.

(spazski) #1078

It’s worth noting that the part I responded to was the only part of his post that I was able to understand (1 out of 4 :P)

Anything that hasn’t been stated by a dev is just speculation, and arguing about speculation is, in a way, pointless.

[QUOTE=brbrbr;217175]sure.

Debating is pointless if one or more of the parties are too thick-skulled to listen and/or comprehend what the other people involved are trying to communicate (which, come to think of it, sums up this forum nicely).

But oh, lemme rephrase that:

  1. you SO not listen, add class[in brink] at endofgame will not get better game[brink]

Seriously though, if you’ll eventually unlock a class capable of doing pretty much anything (albeit ineffectively), you’ll end up with a late-game where everyone has the exact same build. And seeing how one of Brink’s biggest selling point is the creation of a personal avatar (both visually and ability-wise) making things so homogeneous would be an incredibly dumb move.

(spazski) #1080

Not only that, but I think players will want to be more specialized. I don’t think “Jack of all trades, master of none” appeals to many people as they want to have a definite role in the combat, which is the whole premise of Brink.

To add to that, being able to change combat roles on the fly makes the concept of a “do-it-all” class kinda pointless and ruins one of the key features of the game.
