Brink Q&A

(Rahdo) #501

i’ll pass the request along to the artists

(ThunderWank) #502

Really that’s scik.
So If I were to post some cool designs made by people I know could they possibly make it in game?

Oh and make sure to do the Canadian flag justice

The way I see it there is a big difference between singleplayer AI and multiplayer bot AI. Bot AI jumps and strafes around more and generally simulates human players while sp AI generally uses cover, flanks, is less directly aggressive and more “realistic”. I notice that none of the interview ‘talking-points’ I’ve seen are focused on AI which is quite different from the promotion of most singleplayer titles. However, Brink is aiming at both multiplayer and singleplayer audiences. Has this second more passive or ‘realistic’ AI behavior been considered?
Considering weapons, is it just those “standard” weapons as seen on the footage or will there be some kick ass BRINK specific guns?

I mean like Quake has it’s Railgun or Nailgun, UT it’s Bio Rifle, etc.
I agree that Brink needs its own iconic weapon like those or the Lancer from Gears, etc. I like the idea of “eco-friendly” weapons, like maybe a high-pressure water jet cutter in gun form (or maybe just squirt guns – the could even be water gun matches, with water balloons instead of grenades :D) or something that breaks down and chops up trash like glass and aluminum and launches the shards at enemies at HIGH SPEEDS. Recycling For War™.

I guess I’ve been a bit spoiled with Borderlands, but about how many guns will there be? Will we be able to find guns around the “arena” or do we unlock guns after certain quests? or is it only pre-set for each character, or sort of like cod where you set up what guns you want before each match? It’s not a big deal to me as I will gladly sacrifice the amount of guns for gameplay.

(murka) #506

You have all guns available at any time and can change it mid-game.

(Reanimator) #507

Yeah but that doesn’t tell me the amount of guns.

Is there 10-15? 20-50? 100-200?? Or the amount as estimated in BL’s 87 Bazillion??

(murka) #508

I estimate the ammount of firearms to be below 10.

dunno. passing the request along doesn’t make it happen, i just know that not all of them read the forum, and i think it’s a good suggestion. time will tell if it makes it in

(Rahdo) #510

I imagine AI is one of the things we’ll be talking more about in upcoming media stuff, since you’re right, we haven’t really touched on it at at all yet, publically. I will say though that great AI is one of the keys to the success of the title, and i’ve been very happy with a lot of the stuff that’s gone in so far…

(tokamak) #511

QW’s AI was already impressive but shoddy if you looked at in detail. The clever voicechats hid allot of that, making the bots seem far smarter than they actually were.

15 million in Borderlands gawd noob.
About 35, 000 of which are named after me

I’m hoping for around 30 guns though personally.
Less then 12 would be a huge let down.

It’s 17.5 million jeez…

So it is you! I knew about you from the Gearbox forums but wasn’t sure if it was actually you.

I’m actually more excited for this game than I was for BL. Although I still love it.

(tokamak) #514

More guns only means less difference between them.

(BioSnark) #515

That’s true but only to an extent. You have damage, rate of fire and ammunition as basics and have quite a few options but you can also add projectile count, projectile speed, projectile visibility, sound, weapon handling, accuracy, scope zoom, range, and even effects like poison, blinding, area of effect and the like. My concern is purely in terms of weapon balance and development.

The reason borderlands could have so many weapons is that they were automatically generated from a couple of variables and they were not balanced at all.

(Reanimator) #516

Also, will there be a demo? If you are planning on a demo it should be like the UC2 multiplayer demo was handled. With the demo expiring as soon as the game comes out which will in turn lead people to buy the game or face the effects of withdrawal.

:stroggtapir:

(Tyfonknut) #517

How long is the campaign in hours?
How many missions is it in the game now?
How many “side” mission in each missions have the game now?
This are some of the question i have about brink.

(tokamak) #518

The amount of maps is something I’m curious about as well, also, will there be different lengths in the selection of maps? Short gams and long games alike?

(Rahdo) #519

those last 3 are all good questions, to which the answer is, in each case, to early to tell. sorry, but as we get closer to beta, that kind of info will come into focus more…

Will it be possible to map the controller yourself on the 360?
I have no doubt in my mind that you guys will do a glorious job setting up the controller, but i would be so happy to be able to do that myself. Tweaking, if you will.

One of the reasons i like playing with a controller as opposed to kb & m, is that when the controller setup is done right, i can do more things simultaneously while being fully mobile. On a keyboard, for instance, it’s a teeny bit annoying when i have to give up my rightwards movement (usually the D key) to reload, take an action, use the flashlight (E, R, and F keys) whereas on a controller it doesn’t matter what angle my joy stick is aimed if my most used buttons are on the shoulders, or by clicking down the stick.

That was something i liked about the control setup for halo, for instance (good use of shoulder buttons, not self-mapping)

And is it possible to have several different crosshairs and letting the player decide which to use? the crosses for some reasonsmake my weapons seem more accurate than the circles
