Same weapons, symetry is maintained. But each side’s weapons hopefully will look and sound different (security new and well maintained, resistance beat up) so there’s aesthetic differences. But stats and function identical.
Sounds good nevertheless and it should be a lot easier with the balancing! I just hope you find enough time to build in all those small details and don’t have to scrap ideas because of the release date.
Brink Q&A
Very cool feature, one thing i like about enemy territory is recognizing the enemy by the sounds they make. And hopefully that will help the people saying they can’t distinguish the two factions very well.
Rahdo:
Can you build me a special gun that shoots a “BANG” white flag out of my gun? Just because I am that cool?
I just read this thread, all 13 pages
Makes me really look forward to Brink.
And not just all the info that makes Brink look great, I think the posters
(thus future brink teammates?) seem pretty great too.
My questions:
-Is there a limit to the ammount of characters you can create?
-Will there be female models in the future?
If so, please keep them mean, tough, classy and scary
(as suppose to skanky siliconejelly’s)
Edit
-How is the gamespeed gonna be? Movement/physics I mean.
Faster or Slower then say, Quake Wars?
This is important to me
I hope Brink will have some humor in it like ETQW per example, I just love that.
I never get tired of a strogg taunting.
Nope, no female playable models, but female npc’s aren’t ruled out.
And humor in Brink? Haven’t you seen the body proportions? Haha.

I think he was talking about DLC or something like that.
Nothing is confirmed, but i think some dev already said they would like too, and it depends in the support Bethesda gives after launch.
It would be pretty cool if they did that. And yeah, no Ms Boobs bigger-than-my-face plox, that’s too cheesy. (Yet I wonder how would they make the heavy body… would they be like fat momma’s?)
There’s been some pretty interesting proportions so far in the art style. Looking at some of their head sizes it might not be so out there to have boobs bigger than their faces
But I agree that they should fit in with the rest of the game. Suddenly having a bunch of supermodels running around the Ark may seem out of place.
And making them heavy makes them buff – not fat. So, I’m thinking like big viking dames or amazon types rather than fat mommas.

You got it, buddy!

Faster than CoD, slower than Wolf ET. A lot of it depends on which body type you choose to play though…
What about ledge grabbing? If i jump a gap and it’s too long, can i grab the ledge with my hands tomb raider style and pull myself up?
Ah yes ofcourse, I forgot about that
I absolutely love the idea of running around with guys of different physique (and looks)
I love the idea of being a skinny medic!
Makes me feel like a cunning racoon

If I see that, I will pray towards London 5 times a day, and use it in half of my games.
Will there be G15 keyboard support similar to what ETQW had? (the awesome red one, forget that blue crap one)
Double post ftw…
movie making Q’s…
Will we still be restricted to 30fps for capturing?
Any freecam support out of the box?
If yes will we have a camming system that doesn’t require a few hundred quid spent on Maya?
Will virtual texturing effect what we see with regards to freecam? From my understanding, only what you see is textured, but if a freecam is on the other side… does it go from the cameras POV and show everything as normal or the players POV and we see untextured surfaces?
It would be amazingly cool if you could download a server-side demo after a match has finished (during intermission and warmup for the next match for example).
Rahdo answered this somewhere else.
The SMART movement will be full moves, so you can’t ‘hold’ a pose like in Tomb Raider. So I guess you’re either forced to pull up (smart automatically finishing the move) or let yourself drop.
It would also be great if you got toggle an option to get all your games automatically recorded and then receive the question whether or not you want to save the demo. After all, you can’t know beforehand if the demo you’re recording will be good or not. This caused me to have a very long list of nameless demo files I need to scroll trough to get the parts I want.

Radiator asked if you could hang off a ledge and then drop/climb as a separate movement.
DA is saying that if you make a jump can you grab the ledge with your hands and pull yourself up (in one fluid motion). This seems totally in keeping with the movement philosophy in Brink so I hope it’s in there.

Yep. As said elsewhere, the point of the movement is to keep you involved in the game, not involved with the movement. It’s a means to an end.
The modal approach of grabbing and shimmying was one of the first things we experimented with, but found that it’d be a lot of work, and not intrinsically enjoyable - sudden change in core controls, slowed, non analogue speeds, unnecessarily complex control issues (Do you fall off the ledge if you try to reload? can you only use pistols? Or no weapons at all?), way too much susceptibility requiring massive baiting of the player to ever get them to use it. In level design terms, to make shimmying useful and worthwhile, you’d have to really contrive some geometry - like a ledge you can only shimmy under to get to some massive reward (i.e. good vantage point, control panels etc.). But if you’re only shimmying due to that reward… that’s not really particularly enjoyable or in keeping with the philosophy of the movement system.
