EDIT: Tweakers has the same interview as before?

I assume Paul’s character getting ‘slimmer’ is demo-purpose only?

A little tidbit I haven’t read before, for those that cba trawling.

Take Brink’s arrow, which sits at the top of the HUD and points you towards your objective, for example. It works like most in-game pathfinding guides, but it’s dynamic, re-routing players if they try to find alternative routes to an objective. Paul shows it off: as an Operative, he picks the “plant a hack” objective from a command post. The arrow, like a Sat-Nav, encourages him to take a route straight up the main road for a frontal assault on the “warden’s office”, where the Resistance hope to steal important codes. But Paul decides an alternative route would be better suited to the Operative’s stealthy skills. He dives over a fence to his left, and the arrow automatically re-routes, pointing him towards an unmanned back route into the warden’s office.

The good ideas keep on coming. Some of the class abilities, unlocked as you progress up the experience ladder, are brilliant. “Sense of Perspective”, for example, switches the camera to third person, allowing players to keep an eye out for enemies as they’re locked into completing objectives. “Combat Intuition” acts as an early warning system, triggering a yellow bar on the HUD whenever the player is in an enemy’s crosshairs. “It doesn’t happen fast enough for me to use it like an aim bot,” Paul insists, “but it does mean I can usually find cover or concealment or fortification. I have a chance of fighting back.”

Also, forgot to say, the operative can hack things, but it’s the engineer who can destroy the hack box that’s on the objective.

Thats the only bit I didnt know, but it raises a few more questions for me:

Are the hack boxes used for wireless hacking? Or does the hackbox hack for you by placing it on there, and starting it up? eg the same gameplay mechanic used for charges in etqw

I think you can quickly throw it on an objective and then control it directly or from a distance at reduced rate.

“sense of perspective”, for example, switches the camera to third person, allowing players to keep an eye out for enemies as they’re locked into completing objectives.

what the *****?!
You should only do the objective when the area is clear. That’s the thing about doing the objective with or without making sure you are clear to do it!

I have a chance of fighting back.”

and again, WTF?!
I have a chance of fighting back?
It would be your own stupid fault to run out in the open before spotting any enemys in the first place!

I REALLY do NOT like these kiddy addons.

Welcome to BRINK.

They’re perks dude. If you don’t like them, choose another one. Don’t have a cry about it lol

(Crytiqal) #10

I know that if people would have had these things a few years ago they would be considered hacks, but I guess the new term is perks then.

I guess that makes it ok if you can choose what cheat cough, perk can have.

Also if you read very carefully, Paul isn’t capable of using it as an aimbot, cause he is too slow :stuck_out_tongue:
But others might be faster then him.

It also undermines the opponent who DID have an eye out for incoming enemys and he is denied the kill of a simple opponent who isn’t aware of his surroundings. (As Paul says, you get time to hide for cover and a chance to fight back)

Lol at a chance to fight back.

What? It isn’t fair if you get killed when you pay no attention to enemy movement?
The enemy should have said: “Hey dude, I am up here! Make sure you can see me aiming at you before I start shooting you! I wouldn’t want it to be an unfair fight just because I spotted you first.”

Is that it?

(Senethro) #11

You’re making a big fuss over nothing. The guy with that perk will still get killed by people who took a +15% damage perk or whatever.

[/QUOTE]

I know what you’re saying and typically thats what you would do in a scrim or a comp match.
I would say that ability is more useful in a pub where people tend to rush more. I guess you could also use it scrims, when youve locked down an area - but comms from your team mates would be more useful in that situation IMO. So its probably better to use that ability slot for something else. All speculation ofcourse

Now this is an ability that Im not a fan of. When I first read that, I nearly spewed a little bit in my mouth, and choked. :frowning: I think that a warning from turrets is all well and good like in ETQW. But not from other players lining you up. A demonstration of it in a vid would clear things up for me though.

(LyndonL) #13

I don’t personally care to tell you the truth. Just because there is a warning system doesn’t mean that it will work… They might be concentrating on something else… Also, if you have a large weapon, who’s to say that they DO get out of the way in time? They might only be 2-3 bullets from death and their EWS won’t save them at all. Or if they’re in the middle of an area, and EWS activates - they CAN’T run anywhere… once again you have them.

(darthmob) #14

To be honest I doubt that it’ll change much in combat if you are somewhat experienced and have a decent map knowledge.

What I don’t like are possible implications on other situations. It may prevent some more sneaky tactics like hiding with docs or hiding behind a spawn to get timings. If the enemy knows he’s being looked at without someone around he knows what’s going on. But then it’s easy to think too much into it without having played with it. If it’s bad - custom settings ftw!

(Slade05) #15

Well, CoD has hated perks, SD decided they need some too.

(tokamak) #16

You can only have a limited amount of them. If you think you don’t need them you can swap them with more hp, higher firepower or other stuff.

If you’re truly sneaky then you’ll make sure you won’t look at players directly then. Or at least finish them off quickly.

ETQW and W:ET had upgrades as well. It’s just that the perk system happens to be more balanced because of the limited amount you can have of them.

I’m sure you can’t spam it and it has a cooldown.

(tokamak) #18

Well it can be a passive (IE constant) perk, but there’s tons of ways to make it balanced. Delays, or very temporary bars or whatever.

(BioSnark) #19

I’m no fan of unlockable perks and weapons in mp games but those are nowhere near as powerful as the radar in Quake Wars.

(NiNja) #20

Good point, but also… If you’re a skilled player then it shouldn’t matter if they know you’re aiming at them… It’s not like you take 2 minutes to aim… You should be shooting them right in the dome as soon as their CI is going off. Otherwise you shouldn’t even have a sniper in your hand in the 1st place.
