Brink peaked over 10k today

Ditto.

Downloaded the DLC just for the hell of it, played the new maps, they look nice but play just as badly as the rest … I certainly wouldn’t have paid money for this DLC.

It’d be nice if the DLC brings in some new players but I won’t be picking it up again until they release a proper PC version (separately bindable functions), the stuff needed for comp (demo + 1st person spec) and fix the guns (reduce spread).

Wasn’t there supposed to be a patch with this DLC? Or is it still being worked on? Or was it just a myth that SD were intending to do something other than release content that already existed anyway?

(.Chris.) #22

Think that was assumed/hoped for, I certainly was expecting something along with the DLC considering it had been a long while since the last update.

(FireWorks) #23

The patch was to give the consoles what we already had. I hope they find more time for our needs now after the dlc is out now. At least they could give more attention to the helptech forum where people cant even start the game.

Guys. In case it wasn’t ridiculously obvious already, this is never going to happen. At least not to the extent people want.

The low damage, high spread weapon mechanics were a conscious decision made by the dev team to make the experience more fun for everyone, not just the competetive side. It’s been said many times before and I highly doubt they’re going to change one of the core principles of the game this late in. It’d be like telling them to remove SMART altogether, it’s not gonna happen.

Before anyone whines at me, I come from a background of games like Counter Strike Source. As such I would have loved if Brink had weapons with less spread and more damage. Problem is that it’s simply the way Brink is and you have to deal with it. So stop telling them to “fix” it when it’s an intended aspect of the game.

Nexo

EDIT: As much as I hate said game, maybe the devs could consider adding a “Hardcore” mode in to appeal to more competetive players like ourselves. I’ve been yelled at for “splitting an already small community” for making this suggestion before but if weapon mechanics are gonna keep coming up then why not suggest it again?

On Xbox, hardcore mode is Competitive mode which is 5v5. And despite all the complaints about weapon spread here, the peeps that play in Comp mode on Xbox are just sick. They are uncanny with accuracy and nigh impossible to beat. If you encounter these same folk in non comp modes like standard freeplay, they destroy everyone and rarely lose 1v1 fights. Whenever we play and these guys show up everyone says Uh Oh. :o

(FireWorks) #26

Same for PC guys and average joe. OMG HAX

(Darksider) #27
It’s been high in the top seller’s list since the game became F2P

Now I hope enough people purchased it so for a more healthy varied experience where I can have 3K more xp then the second guy overall :p
You’re not too bright are you? Top Seller means games bought foolio…

(shirosae) #28

People are dealing with it by not playing Brink. Is that an intended aspect of the game?

If your goal is to keep Brink in the current flopped status, then yeah, I can see why it’d be a good idea not to fix it.

Alternatively, SD could rebalance the gun netvar things so bullets actually go where they’re aimed, collect all that into a secondary aimstyle and have it as an optional serveroption like ETQWpro’s ‘et_aimstyle’ option, and have people actually playing their game.

(Darksider) #29

3 days have past since the Free Weekend, since Monday Brink has been peaking at 2,000 players daily which is good actually, notice Ive been able to find more servers in NA to play on, hopefully it’ll stay that way for awhile.

(Hk_Obayda) #30

I understand you play on PC, but this is also a console game. We already got one free DLC as an apology… how could you expect more for free? Since when are things free? It won’t happen.

(light_sh4v0r) #31

Things have always been free untill a few years ago.

(.Chris.) #32

People were even asking for paid editing tools the other day…

What’s this world coming to. These things used to be given for free as a thank you for our support, now you only seem to get free things as an apology and you now pay them for new content as a ‘thank you’ for them doing their job? The ****?

(FireWorks) #33

Things change and sadly not always for the better

(shirosae) #34

I always thought it was more that there are some things it’s difficult to plan for in testing (weapon balances, spawn timers and stuff) that would be immediately exposed on release, so publishers/developers would plan accordingly and set aside some funding for post-release development to fix/tweak whatever stuff became obvious after release, because then the game would actually get properly finished without massive glaring bugs or balance issues left forever.

Now it seems that publishers/developers are pushing the release dates back ever further, shipping ever more buggy unfinished games, then dumping community-splitting maps on top of the patches that should be free because they’re fixing the broken game you already bought and pretending like they’re doing you a favour.

I don’t want new content for free. I don’t even want new official content - it’s either irrelevant silliness (Barbie stuff) or community splitting (buyable maps). I just want the games I buy to actually get finished at some point before the publisher and developer run away to start making the same mistakes all over again on another game.

(`Ghost`) #35

yup. thats awesome. i was seeing during the day 4 or 5 full servers and at night 2 or 3. Now its just exploded! (and the free weekend is over!) during the day im seeing 24+ servers and at night around 20.

all brink has to do is keep doing what theyre doing (fixes, expansions, making things better) and do another free weekend a month or two down the road with a pricedrop + sale and the community will continue to increase.

And a little message to all the debbie downers and nay sayers… Why the ***** are you still here on the forums discouraging new players from playing because of YOUR negative opinion. just because YOU didnt like the game doesnt mean they wont. but if they come on the forums first before playing the game, you’ll discourage them.

(RabidAnubis) #36

I think this game is overall good.

It’s DIFFERENT. The campaign could have been a little more standard or non existent, more audio logs for story hogs like me, and maybe a few different things, but overall this is a new taste to those tired of other FPS’s.

“Hardcore” mode like “other” games where high damage is in the game would be HORRIBLE for Brink. Also, I don’t think people are asking for tighter spread and MORE damage. Most people are asking for tighter spread and a little LESS damage which would keep the core gameplay of Brink in tact with more accurate shooting.

(Nexolate) #38

I’d be really worried if they lowered the damage even more. It already takes half to a full clip of ammo just to kill one person.

Who knows? Maybe it’s because weapons have such large spread currently that it takes so much ammo. Either way, with or without the damage boost, adding a mode like this in that caters towards the more competetive side would be much appreciated.

Nexo

(Mustang) #39

This is exactly why
However if spread is tightened and we want to keep time to kill the same (which we do)
Then the solutions are to either (a)reduce damage or (b)increase player health
Because of other factors (abilities) it would make most sense to go for (a)

(Nexolate) #40

Personally I’d rather keep the damage the same. For single shot weapons like the Ritchie, Light Rifles and Mossington it’d kill them to lower the damage. Perhaps increase recoil buildup to compensate?
