Brink PC Update and New Dedicated Server Released

A new story entry has been added:
[drupal=812]Brink PC Update and New Dedicated Server Released[/drupal]

The latest game update for the PC version of Brink is now available on Steam, containing several fixes and improvements. Among other things, this update addresses the sound dropping out on certain maps when playing networked games and adds the ability to filter servers by player numbers. As before, all you have to do to get the update is sign into your Steam client (and make sure it’s not in offline mode).
If you’re running a Brink server, there’s also an improved version of the Standalone Dedicated Server to go with the update. You can grab the new server via your Steam client’s Tools tab.
Full changelog follows below:

Badman, in this posting you guys made last week, you said that “we should see performance and stability improvements in future driver revisions from both parties.”

While the new patch is better, it’s still not giving me the type of performance I expect. Does this mean we should see some drivers from each respective GPU vendor soon that work in conjunction with the patch today?

To answer your question Quad, Crispy already clarified a little bit earlier…

I’m sure its same for nvidia too

Are dedi servers more stable now?
Nothing mentioned about the random crashes or not returning to default config after a hijack

(Quad) #7

I’m not really asking “when” the drivers are coming. I’m asking “if” specific drivers to help Brink are coming since their last posting insinuated as much.

(scub) #8

why does update cause the entire thing to have to re-download…both server patches that were released in the past couple weeks i had to re-download 1.2GB of data… not a big deal but it’s a waste of bandwidth.

(INF3RN0) #9

Woah! Was not at all expecting such a small patch to fix my performance so much. Got a 30fps increase right away and its much smoother (40-60 on most maps). Now all you gotta do is unlock some cvars so I can get 120fps and I’ll be really happy :).

@Badman
Wow this game officially sucks. My last nerves were with this update, i really wanted this game to work. If it wasn’t fixed now, its never gunna be. This game is broken for good. **** it im sick of waiting and ****.

This “big update” was the biggest let down ever, actually it wasnt… the game was.

Also, I was a hugh W:ET fan, used to play it all the time. You let me down, I’m never gunna preorder a game from you guys ever again. I can’t believe you would **** your players like this. I hope you ****ing read this too. This was the patch I was hopeing to fix all the ****ing problems, didn’t do anything.

You guys should be getting ****ing sued for selling a “non working game”. I hope your company goes right down the drain. Thats how much hate I have right now.

Edit: I’ll admit, with my ATI 5770, I do get some better FPS, but when I put the game on Low settings, my FPS should be at 100 not 30FPS. Why do I get more FPS when my settings are High? That makes no sense. My framerate is all over, from 30-120(and OVER). WTF.

(Spectre-7) #11

Are you by any chance renaming the videos so they don’t play when you start the game?

(scub) #12

nah, im referring to the dedicated server files that re-download the entire thing.

Hmm, oh well see ya. I never had any FPS issues with my copy of the game other than the popping/loss of sound issue… Game being run on high on my rig.

Funny, I have the same setup, minus the MOBO and GPU, I have a MSI for the quad cpu, and nividia gtx 460 for gpu…

(Progz) #17

Your running good because of ur Nvidia GTX 460. Im not gunna buy a new video card (i wanna upgrade actually, but still really dont need too) for Brink only. Thats just stupid.

(mukmuk) #18

What kind of video card do you have? I wonder they made model specific fixes.
Excited to see if my 9600GT will push some more frames when I get home.

(system) #19

At first glance, AntiAliasing looks much better, game runs smoother overall.
Font still gets screwed up and the server sometimes still doesn’t accept the password :).

Only played two maps, but respawn timers appear to have been tweaked.

Nice job, keep it up please.

Congrats PC players. Enjoy Brink.
