Brink PC Feedback

(Herandar) #241

You feel that was an attack? Really?? His text size was more aggressive than my entire response.

The problem with developer feedback is that, generally speaking, it is never enough for some people. The developers are aware of the issues posted on their own forum. Suppose Badman posted, “We are aware of the issues you have posted, and are working diligently to fix them.” Some posters would be fine with that message. Others will realize that this token response is devoid of any content, and demand more.

Some want to have the developers regurgitate the list of issues that have been brought up, which is also rather pointless. Some want to know which issue is being treated as a priority. Some, like the post I responded to, want to know the status of each and every issue. How many issues have been documented so far?? Which means taking time off from working on the issues just to tell you in inconsequential detail again that these things are being worked on, which, ultimately is the same response as a token response, or the implied response in my “attack” () post earlier.

Then, as if the detailed response is not enough, people here will udoubtedly start to complain about how Splash Damage is prioritizing fixes, as if they were experts and could do it better.

So, instead of going down that fun path, they don’t respond at all.

Brink is all about team work ok, so like how are u supose to coordenate attack and defense with VOIP off by default, it makes no sense, Brink trys to be newb friendly at all costs and that hurts the gameplay for the loyal fans, you can always mute someone and theres only like 3800 brink players max nowadays so give what people that actually play the game want.

(legend123) #243

lol how true. ps it barely hit 3500 players according to steam.

(Nexusdog) #244

Yes, Herandar, I feel your response was inappropriate, unwarranted and yes, it was disappointing.

Your issue with text size may be valid, but the man was able to articulate himself, present a reasonable concern and, yes, is exasberated & frustrated as many are with the current situation. There was no “ironic quotation marks” nor “rolling eyes”, or similar affectations in order to prop up his post, just a heartfelt sense of wanting to know what is going on. His query is still perfectly legitimate and devoid of any sarcasm nor requiring the services of a mental health specialist.

Feedback isn’t rocket science - you give it, constructively, it pays dividends, you’re taken seriously. This thread, for the most part, should highlight that fact. But it works both ways. It’s a small price to pay - you take peoples money for a product, which is full of undocumented extra features, they let you know how they feel and if you wish to save your reputation and keep your customers, you find the time to liase with them. Not every day, but perhaps weekly, with a general ‘we’re 50% done, potential update in x days’. Given the nature of this current situation, how is that not a legitimate request?

A minority will always complain, but when the majority have a valid grievance and raise their voices, you have to consider the affect on your reputation.

Telling someone they need their head examined? Really? How very disappointing.

Anyway, I’m off to play some Brink. I actually enjoy it. A lot.

(Herandar) #245

You can have your head examined by your PCP, or even a nurse practioner, there is no need to go directly to a “mental health specialist”. Make sure you have the proper referrals and/or authorizations.

Now, why do you feel my original response was full of sarcasm? My response to his post was written literally and without an ounce of sarcasm. I know how hard it is to detect in a written medium, so when I am being sarcastic, I lay it on really thick, or include ‘[/sarcasm]’ in my post. This is primarily why I’m baffled that you are accusing me of attacking him, or his position.

If he wasn’t being sarcastic, then I guess he was seriously suggesting the following:

…instead of working on the game.

I’m sorry, would you prefer the typical name calling, personal attacks and profanity-laced derision?

I fail to to see why this bothers you that much, unless this struck a nerve. In which case, it is your baggage… I was not trying to offend anyone, and I truly apologize if I unwittingly did so.

Anyway to remove the fugly filter ingame? (you know, it looks blue instead of white ingame, but menus are fine)

(l2c) #247

I dunno if this is limited to PC, cause I didn’t make the game, but I am getting annoyed by customization errors. First my black engie turned into a clone of my white medic, and now half the facial hair options are locked, even tho I have a lvl20, and even tho I can use the Disgrace -_-

IMO i agree with Dom and Reflex, but couple other things:

Female character? my wife and daughter thought about playing the game, but they want to kickass as girls in the game. Will you SD make it possible for the ladies in the gaming community? There not only men in PC or console gaming, i got 8 ladies friends who plays fps a lot.

Map in limbo?? why was it taken out?? the maps are so complex, maps in limbo at least would help familiarize with it plus helping having a bit of intel on the game progression.

The objective wheel… often i choose a mission and it removes itself without me doing anything saying you cant blabla that objective… WTH? Maybe there is a bug there…

if i think of anything else, ill post it later , i dont remember what ive talked with Dom in game last week, but it was a good point. Nice having a good memory huh?

They have stated already that there wont be female characters because it would have taken much longer to do all that player customazation stuff. Kind of unfortunate but its not the end of the world. There are definetly bigger issues that need to be fixed:

F button
Chat/VIOP
Option to take of videos/dialog between matches
Make communication available everywhere (what is this ****** I see where servers wont let you talk in global honestly.)

grrr too bad for the female models… it would have made more players coming to the game…

But yeah that F button thing that make your view change so that you can see your character giving the buff to your teammate… Is anybody out here needing that stuff that hinders more than it helps?

My favorite game so far, TF2, has a nice voip that works, why not Brink? its a console thing or what?

To those who talked about menus of ETQW being nice and that should have been incorporated in Brink… AMEN! Strogg, strogg, strogg!!! :oppressor:

Oh no!:stroggtapir: the filthy beast!!! Run away!!

With all this game issues I feel like I payed 25 pounds to play beta and the Proper game is coming in dlc and patches…
No demo? No beta?
SD surprised to have so many ppl moan about issues…

I received my copy today (26€ with free shipping from UK to Finland, and they had thrown in a free bandana without mentioning it anywhere which is very much appreciated even though I’ll probably never wear it) and thought I might as well write my first impressions while making food.

After all the negative feedback I’ve read my expectations were pretty low and what seemed like 30fps limit during the challenges lowered them further. Shooting felt just horrible and choppy during them.

After making it through the challenges, I decided to go play online. Seeing the mostly empty serverlist didn’t exactly inspire confidence, but once I found one and connected, I was completely awestruck by how not bad the game actually is!

Sure the movement system bugs out a little sometimes and there are some design decisions with the controls that make playing more laborous(I guess would be a good word) than it feels it should be. And being used to the freedom of movement in rtcw/w:et, moving feels quite limited in comparison. But overall I’m liking it more than any mp fps released in 8 years, and it definitely didn’t deserve the trashing it has gotten.

I’ll likely keep mostly playing W:ET, but now I have another mp fps to play if I’m in a mood for something less intense, which is awesome!

Anyways, I guess my feedback for now would be to remove the 30fps cap from the offline modes if possible, it gives a really bad first impression to people when the game is actually completely smooth online. And I’d like to want to play through the campaign missions offline, but the 30fps cap makes it impossible. (If there’s a way to play through the campaigns alone and online, please let me know?)

ps. If you are unhappy with the server browser, Game Scanner supports Brink!

(murka) #254

What 30fps cap? I get like 90-150fps in challenges.

(DarkangelUK) #255

Your fps counter shows that, but the instance is running at 30fps.

(AnthonyDa) #256

You don’t even see the difference? :frowning:

(Kahnlum) #257

In regards to the “use” function, I believe the Wolfenstein Enemy Territory system to be perfect!
It was amazingly intuitive and solves for “targeting” issues. One item for each function so you will not accidentally toss the wrong buff around.

(tokamak) #258

The auto-aim on team-mates is totally worth it on consoles, but for the PC it’s an artefact that is more a nuisance.

The auto-follow needs to change. The speed boost is okay, but the direction you look at should not be augmented. The mouse itself is accurate enough not to need any help staying on target. The stuttering during move is really awkward.

Give the player manual control (or at least give him the option to) the aiming while ‘boosting’ towards a player.

(DarkangelUK) #259

Well yeah, that was my other thought

(Gung-ho) #260

Splash Damage are going to be in trouble for whatever future game they do.

Brink population numbers are what, 25% of what they were at release?

It’s only going downhill from there. Will it even last out to Battlefield 3? My interest in BF3 is growing largely because of the failures of Brink.

I for one will be not be buying the next Splash Damage game unless I hear it’s a truer to the PC platform. Will probably stay away from it as well if all the trailers are from the console platform. That should have been a warning from the very start that Brink was going to have some problems.
