what, the soup?

(Seyu) #63

Same engine that has just been ‘touched up’ a little.

(Nail) #64

it’s all the same engine, just wearing different sweaters, a black and silver that says PC, a pink that says 360 and a yellow that says PS3, all the same, just 3 sets of guys knitting in the same shop

oh yeah, tha black one has super powers and is $10 less

Here u go - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFFvaeTt6bg&cc=1 1:55

But its just a words, no screenshots of PC version, or any other proof.
Well, this is good to hear :).

I’ll refer my friend to this thread now :stuck_out_tongue:

(SockDog) #66

A port isn’t a bad thing, it just has a stigma of being a sloppy effort. In the hands of a good developer (SD) a port should look like whatever platform you own was the only focus of the dev team.

(Seyu) #67

I do wonder if SD is playing around with semantics when they say all three versions are being developed separately but even if Brink really is a console port I wouldn’t worry too much.

(Crytiqal) #68

I know, I know '

I am not questioning the quality of the game, was just trying to find out if we are being lied to eheh

No PC PR results - (fast found, where are tones of such posts) -

Some quotes -

“a dev who posts on the somethingawful forums already confirmed they built the game around console hardware limitations. its made for consoles first and foremost, nothing else. pc version had the least amount of focus and much of the development of the pc version was outsourced.”

"I been following the game for a long time now and there are a lot of things that put me off the game.

  1. Match making system based on rank.

Makes it incredibly hard to get TAW players/friends of differing ranks to play together. Ranks systems are not progressive at all as they are based on time played rather than skill. It will also effectively divide the player base between the brackets.Sounds awfully like an MMO, thats not a bad thing but I don’t want MMO qualities in an FPS game.

  1. SMART system -

The smart system will remove any need for learning trick jumps. So the last 5 years spent mastering trick jumping and movement in SD’s games is now redundent.

  1. The stupid control scheme

which is obviously tailored to the console platform. 1 button does all based on context. This is going to make doing objectives and reviving people etc harder and limit the flow of the game. I remember what the system was like in Wolfenstein. Engineers were dropping ammo crates near the objectives instead of doing the objective. etc. Medics would throw down health packs on teammates that needed reviving, the system was terrible . Not to mention you can’t even select grenades any more, you press a button and it throws it for you, forget cooking nades unless you have the rank ability upgrade that allows you to do what we have always been allowed to do…

  1. The interface

The interface is huge and terrible, again its obvious where SD are targetting the game, a big interface means only one thing, the game is meant to be played on a TV with the player further away from the screen = console.

  1. The stupid perk system

Perks such as senors that warn you when you are being targetted by other players, if another player puts their crosshair on you from behind you get a warning. Or how about the medics self revive perk that allows them to self revive themselves. You know we used to call this cheating…

Make no mistake this game is not ETQW 2. Its not a PC game but a console to PC port."

“Maybe a crappy port but i’m down to play something new”

“Awesome an unoptimized engine port!”

(Seyu) #70

Uhh… the somethingawful forums aren’t exactly a credible source.

(.Chris.) #71

Learn to make your own opinions, so what if other people don’t like the idea of the game?

(Kl3ppy) #72

ETQW was released over three years ago and even the last update was three years ago. SD had a lot of time to code brink but i think they failed like Wolfenfail (2009).

Allow me to repost this old promotional video : http://youtu.be/QFqFu3FuPGw

So you can add the following :
-Glow everywhere to hide the Aliasing.
-Ironsight must be used even at med range.

And so on …

  1. seems to be the only valid concern. Other than that a bunch of nonsense imo.
For example about SMART system. It’s already confirmed that you will move 10%+ faster when you do your SMART moves manually and you can get to certain places you couldn’t go with the SMART button if you do it manually which basically means you will need to learn advanced movement techniques aka trick jumps and stuff.
Not commenting the other stuff, guy who wrote that didn’t even think it’s necessary to discuss with actual arguments anyway ("Or how about the medics self revive perk that allows them to self revive themselves. You know we used to call this cheating… ").

(Kinjal) #76

Close )) but no

(Linsolv) #77

Well, I’m convinced. There really is no point in arguing with Kinjal. He’s just got an infinite supply of complaining to do, and I don’t have an infinite amount of listening to it.

(Seyu) #78

Edit: Eh, looking around a bit more, I don’t really know what’s up in there nor care.

(Jamieson) #79

The quote from Kinjal was my comments actually posted over a year or so ago. some of the information known about the game now was not known then. My qoute is from I have been following to - console to PC port.

I still stick to most of those comments though. I understand now that the Rank system is optional I believe? You can select servers in the browser or use the matchmaking which will match you by rank. - Not really a problem.

3, 4 , 5 I stand by strongly. The problem with the Medic self revive is we still don’t really know anything about it, How much HP do you have once it is used? How long does the spawn protection last if there is any? How often can you use it?

The smart system, supposedly using the manual system will give players an advantage but even 10% (Ragoo) is not that significant of an advantage. I would have preferred no SMART system and Trickjumps and Strafe jumping as usual, but if SD wants to make it easier for new players then they could have at least made the increase truly significant say 40-50%, that way the smart system is an introduction but no way near as fast or effective as the real thing. I suppose I just prefer a steeper learning curve.

I wont repeat the discussions made over a year ago, you can look them up like Kinjal did for the quotes.

(Humate) #80

Self Revives bring you to default full health from my understanding… and the cooldown timer is about 2 minutes. Its really no different to a spawn host in etqw, the difference being the counter for it is a gib instead of paddles.
